Three Towers Game

Chapter 1494: Chapter 479: True Ending_3

Wen Xishu was slightly taken aback.

Lu Mingxuan’s voice clearly grew weaker:

”Before this, all I could ever see were... two endings: either being used by Lord Scorpio, or being used by the New World...”

”I don’t hate Lord Scorpio, he gave me a stretch of possibility. He also let me... experience the most brilliant segment of my life as a game.”

”Someone like me was supposed to die quietly and unnoticed in the apocalypse, yet I still, like a leader, saved many people.”

”So, Lord Scorpio doesn’t owe me anything.”

”It’s just... such a pity that in the end I still couldn’t escape the ending of parting with everyone.”

”I didn’t protect them, I let them be tempted and corrupted one by one.”

”I’m sorry... everyone, I’m so sorry...”

Lu Mingxuan seemed to have already fallen into a kind of pre-death mental confusion.

”Wen Xishu... do you think they’ll forgive me?” Lu Mingxuan asked.

Wen Xishu nodded, and a quiet sorrow rose in his heart.

”That’s good... that’s good...”

”Thank you... at least I played out... an ending Lord Scorpio didn’t anticipate.”

”At least... I didn’t make more mistakes. I... this is the first time I’ve managed something like that.”

”I even made friends, without relying on a dialog box...”

”I’m... pretty amazing, aren’t I.”

Lu Mingxuan slowly closed his eyes.

His body was light as dust; he was a program forcibly terminated.

He hadn’t even had time to finish his final farewell.

He died.

No cold corpse, no stench of decay.

He was just... a block of data that had been deleted.

When Wen Xishu came back to himself, there was already nothing left in his arms.

The boy he’d been holding had finally grown, relying on his own words to make the first, and also the last, friend of his life.

Wen Xishu suddenly felt a bit of regret; maybe he shouldn’t have taken this job.

Maybe he shouldn’t have awakened someone who was fleeing from loneliness.

The building began to collapse, completely collapse; now that the game’s owner had vanished, the building would naturally crumble away bit by bit.

Strictly speaking, it should disappear like data, turning utterly into nothing. But because not all levels vanished at the same time, many load‑bearing structures in various places disappeared, resulting in a physical collapse that was disturbingly close to reality.

After a very, very long time, Wen Xishu’s figure was no longer standing on some floor of the skyscraper.

He appeared at the base of the building.

That infinitely tall skyscraper had already disappeared.

Wen Xishu suddenly remembered that on his journeys, he had changed the course of many people’s lives and stopped many tragedies.

But there were times he failed as well; there was one person, just like Lu Mingxuan now, who could not be saved.

That was John Leon of Wind City.

John turned himself into a game. That ending was romantic, but in reality, in Wind City’s real world, there would no longer be anyone named John.

He slowly let out a breath. Four in the morning in Deep City no longer had the neon flicker it once did.

Beneath his feet was no longer the bustling street of the past, but a ruin.

Looking at the ruins, looking at those Black Houses and Red Houses in the distance...

He knew there were still far too many stories hidden here. He had to become stronger so that these stories would no longer end in regret.

Wen Xishu knew it was time to leave, to go find Scorpio and demand some benefits, or to seek out Qilin and ask for generous rewards.

He wanted to force himself to think about something else... something happy. But in his mind, Lu Mingxuan’s final ”development log” kept surfacing.
