Three Towers Game

Chapter 35: Chapter 28 The Tower of Delayed Arrival

Wen Xishu knows too little about the common sense of this world.

Because the memories of the original owner of the body cannot be extracted completely.

Albert seems to understand this as well and doesn’t care much about why Wen Xishu is unclear about these common senses.

”The importance of the Deceit Tower is self-evident, but exploring the Deceit Tower has sunk costs.”

”You should know that the main group currently exploring the Deceit Tower—death row prisoners, terminally ill patients, or people who have run out of options due to other factors.”

”Normal people seem willing to go to the Desire Tower, and when in a pinch, go to the Slaughter Tower, but they absolutely don’t want to go to the Deceit Tower.”

”Because once you enter the Deceit Tower, all the sequences, abilities, and attributes of the previous towers will be reset to zero.”

Wen Xishu guessed that this is actually not the absolute reason people are unwilling to explore the Deceit Tower.

Indeed, Albert added:

”But you’re surely thinking, if you explore the Deceit Tower first, wouldn’t this problem cease to exist?”

”Why do people choose to explore the Desire Tower and the Slaughter Tower first?”

”Is it merely because the Desire Tower is easier?”

”But the Slaughter Tower is also dangerous, so why are there still far fewer people exploring the Deceit Tower compared to the Slaughter Tower?”

Wen Xishu nodded, he was indeed pondering this question.

Albert’s answer left Wen Xishu surprised:

”Because the Deceit Tower was born later than the other two towers.”

Wen Xishu was stunned.

He had considered many reasons, such as the complex rules in the Deceit Tower, and the existence of the Anti-Magic Value mechanism, which not only requires familiarity with the boss’s combat mechanism but also constant vigilance to prevent triggering some bizarre rules due to low Anti-Magic Value.

But he never thought the truth would be so simple and crude—the Deceit Tower...

Actually descended the latest among the Three Towers.

Albert sighed:

”In this world, there are things that are right and things that are easy. Most people choose to do the easy things because the former is too difficult.”

”But humans have resilience. Even after experiencing apocalypse, human civilization has not fallen.”

”With millions of people in the Bunker... how could there not be those willing to take risks for all of humanity?”

”Just when I wasn’t this old, we didn’t even have the qualifications to enter the Deceit Tower. The Deceit Tower hadn’t appeared yet; how could we enter?”

”In my life, I have never liked doing things that are too easy. I rarely entered the Desire Tower.”

”I have no interest in the past of those monsters in the Slaughter Tower.”

”Because I discovered early on, even if you know the past of those monsters before the Deceit Tower was born... it seems that due to the lack of a crucial piece, you cannot present a complete puzzle.”

”No matter what you do in the Desire Tower, it is very difficult to change the monsters in the Slaughter Tower.”

”And earlier, it was very difficult for people exploring the Slaughter Tower to communicate with those exploring the Desire Tower.”

”For example, people in the Desire Tower might turn into monsters in the Slaughter Tower in the future, but once turned into monsters, their appearance will completely change, making it hard to recognize.”

”But in the Slaughter Tower, encountering a monster immediately triggers a battle; to put it fashionably, ’show your head and you get slain.’”

”You can’t figure out who it was from the Desire Tower.”

”How can you save it?”

Wen Xishu nodded.

Indeed, the ghostly appearance of Deceit Jack is vastly different from that of Desire Jack.

If Slaughter Jack does not speak, without sufficient information, Wen Xishu could never figure out that this is Jack from the Desire Tower.

”So the Desire Tower is the easy thing, but ultimately someone has to do the right thing. Before the Deceit Tower appeared...”

”To me, the right thing was conquering the Slaughter Tower.”

Wen Xishu couldn’t help but ask:

”Why do you think that?”

Albert replied:

”You also mentioned that the Desire Tower is the past, and its timeline is earlier.”

”If one day humanity returns to the former world, do you think it will return to the past? What they will face is likely a world occupied by the monsters of the Slaughter Tower.”

”Although the Desire Tower can bring back supplies and survival is easier, I have always thought that the Slaughter Tower provides humans with strength, not pure game experience.”

”These strengths might be humanity’s only means of self-preservation.”

”So I rarely challenge the Desire Tower. In the era before the Deceit Tower, many of us, for the future of humanity, could only choose the Slaughter Tower.”

Wen Xishu slowly nodded.

Indeed, not everyone is foolish, not everyone is unaware of exploring the Deceit Tower, but in that era, humanity simply had no choice.

Moreover, due to the lateness of the Deceit Tower’s appearance, the collective survival choices of humanity resulted in sunk costs.

Wen Xishu’s perception of Albert changed slightly, at least he was no longer seen as a pure old madman.

”So, without the assistance of the Desire Tower and the Deceit Tower, did you solely rely on the Slaughter Tower to accumulate attributes and break through the Slaughter Tower?”

”If I may ask, how many layers have you broken through in the Slaughter Tower considering your specialization?”

Wen Xishu asked the question he had long wanted to ask. He could roughly sense that Albert was not simple.

But he still wanted to assess just how extraordinary Albert was through specific values.

”Old now, no longer useful, my aptitudes are still mediocre.”

Albert sighed.

Wen Xishu had a good idea; the old Principal was probably on the fiftieth, fortieth floor, or maybe even lower.

After all, an elderly person, even if they could reach the fortieth floor, was still an extraordinary presence. Being the Principal of the Three Towers Academy, they were definitely qualified.

After all, although the exploration levels were not high, surviving for so long meant their survival experience was indeed plentiful.

Come to think of it, these experiences were invaluable, enough to start a seminar, to establish an academy.

Moreover, the first person on the Celestial Ladder List only reached the fifty-sixty levels.

Listening to Albert say his talent was mediocre, Wen Xishu wanted to comfort him, not everyone could be as perverted as Xun Hui.

But in the next second, his always strong micro-expression management encountered a problem.

Albert, somewhat unwilling, said:

”I have been stuck on the 96th floor for some time, and I don’t know if, in my lifetime, I can break through to the 99th floor. I really want to know how many floors the Slaughter Tower has.”

”Eh...”

After saying this, Albert suddenly opened his eyes wide and saw a line of subtitles floating out from Wen Xishu’s head:

[Holy crap, an old immortal reaching a hundred floors? What kind of terrifying existence is this?]

Wen Xishu had a really extreme emotional reaction, extreme shock.

So much so that he lost control for the first time, triggering the negative effect of the strange Sequence 37·Mental Bullet Screen ...

Under certain extreme emotions, it would present his thoughts in the form of a bullet screen to the relevant target, which is the person causing his extreme emotions.

Although Wen Xishu didn’t know the exact Celestial Ladder List, he roughly knew that the strongest players on the ladder currently, Slaughter Tower Xun Hui, Desire Tower Wenren Mirror, were on the fifty-sixty floors.

He thought this was the ceiling of human capability.

But now, he personally understood what the guide’s words meant.

There exist some terrifying beings among humans.

This old man in front of him might be the most terrifying of them all.

”Hahahahaha, it’s so much fun, your strange sequence is so interesting.”

Albert’s laughter made Wen Xishu realize...perhaps he had exposed himself.

But it no longer mattered to him.

A newbie from the starting village in front of a seasoned player who played with maxed out equipment from the game’s inception until the latest version... what’s the difference if he’s exposed or not?

At this moment, Wen Xishu also understood why even after the appearance of the Deceit Tower, Albert hadn’t explored it.

Because such a person is the true legend of the Bunker, exploring the Deceit Tower would mean starting everything anew. For Albert himself, perhaps his heart desired new adventures.

But from the viewpoint of the human camp, they were definitely afraid that such top-tier combat power might accidentally die in the Deceit Tower.

Albert was someone capable of changing humanity’s fate; the Bunker naturally would not allow such a person to start exploring the Deceit Tower from scratch.

This was a risk that the Bunker could not tolerate.

After a while, the surprise in Wen Xishu’s heart gradually subsided.

Albert said:

”You are quite good, I have already begun to anticipate your performance in the first semester.”

”The Three Towers Academy can make the attributes within the three towers effective within the academy’s range.”

”You can understand it as a super-powered academy composed of those with Desire Sequences and Killing Sequences.”

”Most of the graduates here are doing quite well.”

”However, the difficulty of the final exams is not low, and the probability of repeating a year is very high, some rules are not set by us but are inherent to the Three Towers Academy.”

”In short, the academy welcomes you; you have passed my test.”

Albert had been testing Wen Xishu all along.

Now he was convinced that Wen Xishu was a good seedling, perhaps this child had some of Wen Chaohua’s secrets hidden on him.

Perhaps Wen Xishu could clear the Deceit Tower, really with the help of Wen Chaohua.

But that didn’t matter, in Albert’s view, Wen Xishu’s own potential was also worth nurturing.

”Don’t disappoint me.”

Wen Xishu asked:

”You said this is a super-powered academy of those with Desire Sequences and Killing Sequences...”

”But it seems that you didn’t mention the strange sequences?”

Albert laughed heartily:

”Yes, yes, which is why you are worth expecting! Hahahahahahaha...”

Thinking of the bullet screen that floated over Wen Xishu’s head just now, and the way Wen Xishu’s gaze moved up at the beginning, he must have seen his own bullet screen.

Albert thought that Deceit Tower really was damn fun.

Unfortunately...

He himself was too important, in the grand devour, countless people depended on him for salvation.

He could no longer, like decades ago, willfully choose the most dangerous, most difficult, but also most correct course of action.

This also destined him to have no fate with the Deceit Tower’s strange sequences.

These sequences, to the somewhat childish Albert, were exceptionally fun.

Thus, he was greatly looking forward to Wen Xishu’s performance in the first semester.

But before that, to avoid some trouble, he still had to have Wen Xishu do something.
