Three Towers Game

Chapter 15: Chapter 11: Desire for Conversation·Jack

Jack held the medical record in his hand, which looked like a death notice, making his steps extremely heavy and slow.

When he returned to his house, he discovered that the strange figure he had seen downstairs not long ago had actually appeared in his home.

There were two chairs in the room, and Wen Xishu was sitting in one of them.

He had come directly to Jack’s home.

”Hello, do you... need any help?”

The Three Towers had no language barriers, so there was no obstacle in communication between the tower climbers and the Three Tower People.

Wen Xishu found it somewhat amusing.

Faced with someone illegally entering his house, Jack’s first reaction was to ask if the person needed help. He didn’t even ask who the person was.

Good people, before they are pushed to the point of inner eruption by being wronged, are truly unpretentious.

Wen Xishu said:

”I do need a little help, Jack. But I believe we can help each other.”

Jack was somewhat surprised that the other person knew his name:

”How... how can I help you?”

Wen Xishu seemed very approachable; his sitting posture was casual and relaxed, while Jack appeared a bit stiff.

”Relax a bit, Jack. I can be considered a friend of both you and Jennifer. You just need to answer a few questions for me.”

”Is it that simple?”

”It’s that simple.”

The two of them were like a psychologist and a patient, and Jack was clearly the patient with some symptoms.

”Of course, as a reward, I think I can help you get closer to Jennifer.”

Jack’s eyes lit up immediately, but thinking about his impending death, the happiness didn’t seem to last long, and that light quickly faded.

Wen Xishu noticed this; he was very familiar with such changes.

In the past, when he engaged in some extremely dangerous sports, he would encounter people with dull eyes.

Some people engage in extreme sports for the thrill. Others do it to die in a respectable manner.

In bungee jumping, you always encounter a type of person who jumps whether it’s seventy meters or three hundred meters, as if they no longer have any attachment to the world.

”You seem very despondent, it seems the illness has hit you hard. But Jack, maybe your illness isn’t what you think it is.”

”From now on, consider me a doctor, and be honest with me. Just think of everything as being for Jennifer.”

When Wen Xishu mentioned Jennifer, Jack no longer had doubts or guarded against him. He had always lacked that instinct.

”Alright, what do you want to ask? I truly don’t have long to live. I think... no matter how skilled the doctor is, they can’t change my situation.”

”Moreover, I don’t have money. But no matter what you want to ask, if I know, I will tell you.”

Jack was very honest, and Wen Xishu had to admit that his luck wasn’t too bad; having Jack as the core figure of his first mission greatly reduced the difficulty.

”Do you like Yulia?”

Wen Xishu’s first question was extremely direct.

”I don’t like Yulia.”

As expected.

Jack’s answer did not surprise Wen Xishu.

Yulia’s importance actually didn’t stem from herself but from the fact that she was Jennifer’s mother.

He nodded:

”So, Remian thought you liked Yulia, but in fact, you just wanted to get closer to Jennifer.”

Jack now believed more that Wen Xishu knew Jennifer; he was very sincere:

”She is a good kid, she makes people feel happy, makes the world seem less awful.”

Wen Xishu agreed; although he didn’t know Jennifer well, in the Deceit Tower, he unexpectedly felt that Jennifer was a good kid.

”And Jennifer also likes to be with you,” Wen Xishu added.

Jack shook his head uncertainly:

”I... I don’t know, I just like being with her, this is somewhat selfish because this relationship just makes me happy.”

”But I... don’t know if Jennifer is happy.”

Wen Xishu smiled:

”As far as I know, Yulia is quite attractive. If she lived in a women’s fiction novel, she might indeed wait for some low-IQ domineering CEO who falls in love with her, despite her being a divorced single mother.”

”But she definitely doesn’t lack men who are willing to show her affection. Among these men, including Remian, they should also treat Little Jennifer well, right?”

Jack nodded lightly:

”Yes, everyone loves Little Jennifer. Who could have ill intentions towards her?”

Wen Xishu said:

”Although you are not sure if Little Jennifer also likes being with you, do you think... Little Jennifer is happier with you than with others?”

The smile on Wen Xishu’s face made people feel very comfortable, and his tone was gentle, like an old friend.

Jack still nodded:

”Little Jennifer does seem to prefer being with me.”

”Great, thank you very much. I also hope you can have more contact with her. Now, let me answer your question: Jennifer feels truly happy when she’s with you.”

This remark made Jack noticeably smile.

Wen Xishu continued to ask:

”By the way, do you like other children?” Wen Xishu asked again.

Jack shook his head:

”In fact... apart from work, I don’t really like interacting with other children.”

Wen Xishu became more convinced of his hypothesis.

Between Jack and Little Jennifer, there was a special attraction.

”Next question, were you surprised by the medical record showing gastric cancer in the late stage?”

Jack seemed a bit puzzled, looking at Wen Xishu without speaking for a moment.

Wen Xishu said:

”Don’t mind how I know everything. Jack, we are friends, aren’t we?”

”What I want to ask is, are you surprised to have gastric cancer? Do you feel that some of your symptoms don’t quite fit gastric cancer?”

This was quite direct.

Jack thought carefully for a moment, then said:

”I don’t know. My body started changing a few months ago.”

”My appetite has increased a lot. But sometimes I vomit frequently... As you can see, I am now very thin.”

Wen Xishu became interested:

”Do you have any photos of the vomit?”

Jack shook his head in surprise:

”Sorry, I didn’t take any photos of such things.”

”Such things? The things you vomited, aren’t they food?”

”No... you might find it hard to believe, oh, forget it, I’d better not say.”

”Please, you must explain clearly.”

”Well, I often vomit some black liquid, but within the liquid, there seems to be something else.”

Wen Xishu’s pupils slightly contracted. This was clearly not a common stomach illness.

He asked again:

”As far as I know, you are not wealthy. But the medical record you have is from Mo’en City Hospital.”

”If I were you, I would think that I couldn’t afford a full set of examinations, right?”

Jack did not deny it. He said:

”That doctor was very kind. He took me through various examinations. He said today was his lucky day, he saw that I was too thin, so he told me he wanted to do a good deed to help me.”

”He didn’t charge me any fees, but he also said that I would have to gather the money myself for future treatments. All he could do was run the examination and tell me what illness I had.”

Wen Xishu felt a slight shock in his heart:

”Could you give me that doctor’s contact information?”

Jack had no doubts about Wen Xishu, so he left him a phone number.

Wen Xishu said at last:

”Jack, has Jennifer ever felt uncomfortable? I’m not talking about her stomach, but any part of her body.”

Jack showed a look of surprise again, seemingly amazed at how Wen Xishu could always notice things that others hadn’t.

”Yes... Jennifer told me she sometimes hears strange sounds, even when no one is around.”

Wen Xishu had already gathered all of the information.

”Thank you very much for your cooperation, Jack. Lastly, I’d like to leave you a gift.”

Wen Xishu took out a pen and paper, quickly writing something down. He then tore off the paper, folded it, and handed it to Jack.

”You can consider this an invitation letter, but don’t open it now.”

”Please open it when you feel you can’t endure the pain and want to see Jennifer.”

Jack didn’t understand, but Wen Xishu’s gratitude made him feel he had some value.

He accepted that invitation letter.

Wen Xishu asked no further questions and bid Jack farewell, leaving the old building.

He had verified his hypothesis from Jack—

”I was indeed misled. It wasn’t the painful experience that turned Jack into a monster.”

”Rather, it was at the time he was about to transform into a monster, that he experienced a painful day.”

”Jack’s transformation into a monster was inevitable. Perhaps in the future, Jennifer will be the same. They share a certain commonality and are attracted to each other.”

By verifying the logic behind Jack’s transformation into a monster, Wen Xishu could proceed to the next phase of his work.

The verification process went smoothly. Though not possessing any sequence of desires, Jack remained kind to Wen Xishu and answered all his questions.

But before starting the next phase of his work, Wen Xishu had to clarify one very discomforting role.

Initially, he thought that only Jack and Jennifer were worth noting in this mission.

But now, Wen Xishu discovered another person worth paying attention to.
