Chapter 1395: Furious

”What did you say? Laufey was captured? As expected, that bastard.” The Supreme Devil was furious.

He never thought that everything had been one big scheme from the very beginning.

”Sir… What do you mean?” Josephine panicked. She thought she would be blamed for Laufeyʼs capture, but it turned out the Supreme Devil was angry at Laufey instead of her.

She didnʼt know what was going on, but it was convenient for her.

At the same time, this was the first time she saw the Supreme Devil this furious. Normally, the Supreme Devil would have been the calmest person in the room.

Alexander crossed his arms, not understanding everything as well. The Supreme Devil had been silent when they escaped, but once they returned to the headquarters, he became enraged.

He wanted to know the reason for him to be so agitated.

”Canʼt you see it?” The Supreme Devil shouted.

Josephineʼs face turned pale. ”Iʼm sorry for my incompetence.”

Alexander waved his hand. ”Sir, you need to calm down.”

The Supreme Devil clicked his tongue. ”Then let me ask you this question. Who attacked Noel Ardagan from the beginning?”

”It was Laufey,” answered Alexander. He had been here the longest, so he could answer everything related to their missions.

”Why did he fail every single time?”

”That was because Noel Ardagan was an unexpected variable. He skillfully played him around. There were also other experts helping him.”

”Do you really think that way?” The Supreme Devil frowned. ”Then, why did you succeed, Alex?”

”Thatʼs because…” Alex thought for a moment, wondering if something was missing. ”…I was stronger than them… much stronger?”

”Do you really think so? Then what about Qiel? Did you not realize it yet?”

Alexander looked down, recounting every single mission. In the beginning, Qiel failed because Noel was able to cross the border despite Qiel using every resource she could find to hunt him down.

While it was true that Dimitri helped him, it wasnʼt enough. Noel had sent a message to his grandfather to help him, but the timing was a bit too fast. Why would his grandfather appear right at the border?

What if someone had told him beforehand and prepared there? It might not be true, but this was a speculation he couldnʼt deny easily.

Then there was an all-out attack with one hundred thousand demons. Why did Qiel die while Laufey survived?

Qiel was stronger than Laufey, so Qiel should be the one surviving. In addition, in terms of importance, Laufey should be the one sacrificing himself to buy Qiel enough time to retreat. This was the same case as Josephineʼs. Because Josephineʼs ability was more important, he sacrificed himself. If it were the same with Qiel, she should be the one to return, not him.

In addition, they were able to locate several ancient demons in the wilderness. Then, for some reason, there was not a single one of them among those one hundred thousand demons. It was as if someone was trying to stop the attack from being successful.

And all this important part was given to Laufey.

”!!!” In that instant, Alexander finally understood the real problem. He asked, ”Donʼt tell me… Laufey has been betraying us this whole time?”

”He has never been on our side this whole time.” The Supreme Devil corrected his words.

”!!!” Josephine gasped, not expecting this kind of conclusion. She thought she had been a quite good schemer, but looking at this situation, it was clear that Laufey had been manipulating everyone.

”More importantly, the only one who could plan this out…” The Supreme Devil squinted his eyes.

”Luke Ardagan. Laufey shouldnʼt be smart enough to plan this out. But itʼs different if Luke Ardagan is the culprit. No one can scheme better than him. Thatʼs how he manages to rise both in business and court.” Alexanderʼs body shook. ”Is he still alive?”

”If everything is planned, then he must be hiding somewhere. The execution is nothing but a scheme to shift our attention away from him. Meanwhile, he is busy controlling everything from the shadows.” The Supreme Devil raised one finger. ”And his purpose is clear.”

”Noel Ardagan?”

”Thatʼs right. Noel Ardaganʼs talent is something this world has never seen before. Even his ancestor is not this talented. He is a genius who can grasp everything in a short period of time, and this time, I have realized it thanks to him recognizing the king path.”

”King path? Donʼt tell me. Is he going to become a spirit king?” Alexander gasped.

Even Josephine couldnʼt believe it. What did it mean to become a spirit king? Everything. Their ancestor was able to build all four kingdoms due to the protection of one person, the only spirit king recorded in history, Alexander Ardagan.

If Noel was a destined person to surpass him, then nothing could stop him anymore once he became a spirit king. Even the demon king wouldnʼt be able to fight him like how it fought his ancestor.

The Supreme Devil gritted his teeth. ”And I still canʼt fully utilize my power because of this useless curse.”

”…” Alexander finally realized the grim situation they were in. If this continued, the organization would be destroyed. Hence, he asked, ”Should we get the third prince to attack him to buy us time?”

”Do you think I donʼt know that guyʼs personality? Now that the organization is weakened, he will seize this opportunity to become a power strong enough to rival us.” The Supreme Devil gritted his teeth.

”But he will definitely cooperate with us. After all, he still needs us. The only thing that stops him from becoming a king is Noel Ardagan,” explained Alexander.

”It doesnʼt matter. Noel Ardagan is simply too strong. There are even two more spirit transcendences we donʼt know about. Anna Stargaze is also a strong contender. If Duke Lorelei is able to become another transcendent, the situation will look grim. He basically has 5 spirit transcendence experts. Heʼs already above the Greenwood Kingdom, which has four spirit transcendence experts.

”Weʼre not taking into account that their brightest princess is his disciple, so he will most likely get their support as well.”

”Then what should we do?” Alexander asked.

The Supreme Devil fell silent. It was not an easy decision, but there was only one option left. The Supreme Devil gritted his teeth before announcing his decision. ”Retreat. Weʼll build our power again and control all the demons to launch one all-out attack. This time, we canʼt fail.”
