Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 819: Chapter 621: Successfully Defending the Arena

Lin Feng glanced around and realized he was already surrounded by ghost-like phantoms.

These glowing phantoms gripped pitch-black daggers in both hands, their figures blurred and indistinct, but judging from their build, they were identical to Kitahara Sonosuke.

Lin Feng had watched Kitahara Sonosuke’s battles and even studied them—after all, the guy was a legendary name among the trainees.

Kitahara Sonosuke could control phantoms to attack enemies and also move through them; his fighting style was somewhat similar to Lin Feng’s.

Kitahara Sonosuke’s Lifebound Demon Spirit had always been a mystery; no one knew what it was.

But Lin Feng was certain: a single Soul Skill could never be this much of a Divine Skill. This had to be a carefully designed set of Combined Soul Skills—he just didn’t know the exact combination.

”One of the Five Great Genius Killers really does live up to the name.”

Seeing Kitahara Sonosuke vanish, flickering in and out as he moved among the phantoms, Lin Feng also felt a headache coming on.

Only now did he truly grasp how helpless his opponents felt when facing his own Stand-type Soul Skill.

Lin Feng’s gaze sharpened as he locked onto Kitahara Sonosuke; a streak of gray light flashed in his eyes, but the Soul Skill failed to trigger—there was no response from the other party.

”Used a Lock Soul Skill on me?”

Kitahara Sonosuke asked, voice tinged with amusement. As soon as he finished speaking, his figure vanished out of thin air, appeared at Lin Feng’s position, then instantly manifested again from a phantom some distance away.

Seeing this, Lin Feng thought to himself, ”The Stand Soul Skill works on Kitahara Sonosuke, but he can also shuttle through the phantoms. Forcing him into the blast zone is insanely hard.”

With a whooshing roar, faced with a swarm of phantoms lunging at him from all directions, Lin Feng spat out a mass of bubbles that flew in every direction.

Under the audience’s astonished gazes, the two began a breathtaking game of cat and mouse.

Kitahara Sonosuke kept shuttling between his clones, while Lin Feng swapped positions with his bubbles; the two of them Flash-stepped through midair, chasing each other’s silhouettes.

A minute later, Lin Feng’s breathing was slightly ragged as his figure reappeared. Three new wounds had appeared on his body—none serious, but enough to show that he’d been on the back foot in that chase, or rather, completely outclassed.

He hadn’t touched the enemy even once, yet the other had carved three wounds into him. Without his Illusion Soul Skill, there would’ve been five.

Not giving Lin Feng any chance to catch his breath, phantoms appeared all around him again, daggers in hand as they rushed to attack.

Because physical attacks were useless, these phantoms were extremely troublesome, and their attack patterns were bizarre.

Facing attacks from dozens of phantoms, Lin Feng swung his dragon claws, shattering dagger after dagger. Thunder light flashed in his hands, dispersing two phantoms, but he took two more wounds, and with the phantom assault wave after wave, Lin Feng began to lose control of the situation, looking a bit bedraggled.

”Assassins really are cautious; without a guaranteed kill, they’ll never come close.”

Lin Feng waited for Kitahara Sonosuke to approach, but the latter was very careful, only controlling clones to attack and staying out of sight.

Lin Feng could only helplessly use his Stand Soul Skill to escape the phantom encirclement.

With a wave of Lin Feng’s right hand, a purple Thunder bolt shot out. Kitahara Sonosuke, who had just revealed himself, turned back into a phantom and reappeared over ten meters away.

”Out of juice already?”

Taunting voices rang out as hundreds of phantoms spoke simultaneously—the same voice, different timing, overlapping into an echo.

Taunt effect: full marks!

”If you’ve got guts, stop running.”

Lin Feng answered, spitting out a torrent of bubbles.

In just a few dozen seconds, tens of thousands of bubbles wrapped the entire ring. At that moment, Kitahara Sonosuke, who had still been acting laid-back, finally showed a grim expression.

Faced with this kind of large-area blast, any evasive Soul Skill looked powerless.

”Rumble!!!”

Earth-shaking Thunderclap roared out, and for a moment, everyone nearby had their hearing blown out.

An energy ripple like a tornado storm swept across the sky!

The already-ruined ring, practically a heap of rubble, was shaken so violently that the broken stones turned into powder, and a giant pit more than two meters deep appeared out of nowhere.

The air around the entire arena twisted, and the scorching heat made everyone break out in a cold sweat.

The blast power was downright terrifying.

When the dust cleared, the hundreds of phantoms were gone. In their place stood a five-meter-tall phantom figure, its whole body emitting a faint glow.

Kitahara Sonosuke was positioned at the phantom’s waist.

Lin Feng was panting heavily, his forehead soaked in sweat; half of the Dragon Scales on his body were actually scorched.

Lin Feng kept on releasing bubbles.

The bubbles drifted toward the phantom Life Soul, and at this moment, Kitahara Sonosuke actively dispelled the Life Soul.

Life Soul Possession had amazing defense, but it couldn’t freely cast Soul Skills.

Without Soul Skills, he couldn’t attack Lin Feng, which meant he was just a living target.

Kitahara Sonosuke condensed another fifty or sixty phantom clones and sent them charging at Lin Feng.

He flashed, weaving through layers of phantoms as he searched for an opening.

”Lin Feng’s being suppressed.”

”He hasn’t become King yet; with the same fighting style, Kitahara Sonosuke is obviously stronger.”

The instructors discussed.

Clearly, Lin Feng could barely cope with Kitahara Sonosuke’s attacks and could only use [Stand] to dodge.

But with no Soul Power advantage, and his Soul Power already heavily consumed from the previous fight, Lin Feng couldn’t hold out for long.

Maybe because he knew this, Lin Feng stopped defending.

He just kept blowing bubbles, and the explosions continued for five full minutes before finally dying out.

In the billowing smoke, Kitahara Sonosuke kept dodging.

”What’s going on?”

One trainee cried out.

Kitahara Sonosuke now looked like a headless fly, darting around aimlessly. Lin Feng was clearly far away, not attacking at all, just steadily blowing bubbles.

”He must’ve fallen into an Illusion Realm—there’s no other explanation.”

Someone guessed, then let out a sigh. ”Lin Feng’s Soul Skills are vicious as hell—each one nastier than the last. You just can’t guard against them.”

When Kitahara Sonosuke realized he was trapped in an Illusion Realm and snapped back to his senses, he found himself already surrounded by a massive number of bubbles; some were tightly stuck to his skin, and he could clearly feel their faint cool touch.

Not only that, rainbow-colored patterns covered his arms—gorgeous, like multicolored tattoos—but they made him feel ice-cold all over.

”Rainbow Poison!”

Kitahara Sonosuke muttered.

In that last explosion, he had not only fallen into an Illusion Realm, but had also been poisoned.

The Diamond Soul Skill [Rainbow Poison], a Water Attribute Poison Series Soul Skill, could spread through the air; its poisoning signature was extremely obvious and completely unique—of course he recognized it.

If those rainbow lines spread across his whole body, his flesh and blood would melt, turning into a multicolored liquid.

He’d known Lin Feng’s Soul Skills were insidious and had been on high alert, but he still hadn’t expected to get hit silently like this.

As an Assassin, his powers of observation were stronger than other Combat Professions; it wasn’t that he wasn’t careful—it was just impossible to guard against everything.

Facing Lin Feng with the [Stand] Soul Skill, he had to be on his guard at every moment.

Amid continuous explosions, his vision blurred, his ears went deaf, his head spun—every sense dulled to the minimum.

In this state, he still had to contend with all sorts of dirty tricks of Soul Skills. How was he supposed to defend?

Aside from Life Soul Possession, Kitahara Sonosuke couldn’t think of any other way.

Demon Flame, Resentful Spirit, Fat Hedgehog, Rainbow Poison, Illusion Realm—what kind of Soul Skill combo was this?

What kind of profession route was this?

Maybe it was an illusion, but he felt his body starting to stiffen, as if he could sense the breath of death.

”I concede!”

Kitahara Sonosuke shouted loudly, afraid that if he was even one second late, he’d be met with a world-shaking explosion.

At this point, trying to activate a Defense Soul Skill or Life Soul Possession was already impossible.

With Kitahara Sonosuke’s surrender, amid a wave of shocked exclamations, the Avengers Alliance successfully defended the ring and won the Hexagonal Fire Banner.

Chen Junhao and his teammates all looked extremely grim.

They’d been eliminated.

They’d thought the win was in the bag, but never imagined it would end like this.

And it wasn’t just them—the second team about to challenge the ring also looked sour.

The Avengers Alliance’s performance was too dominant, Lin Feng was too strong, and his Soul Skills too sinister. Even with his Soul Power heavily drained, hoping to swoop in and steal a cheap win was going to be very hard.

Facing the final team’s assault on the ring, the Avengers Alliance went all out, holding nothing back, and in the end successfully defended.

In the end, the Avengers Alliance held a total of 38 banners, 23 of which were theirs, making them the biggest winner of the Third Plan.
