Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 807: Chapter 609: Chaos

As soon as Igor announced the competition rules, the scene immediately became chaotic, with figures weaving through the crowd, and the anxious atmosphere and various noises were irritating.

”What a mess.”

Lin Feng couldn’t help but say as he saw this scene.

Fifty-five teams, each composed of twenty people, even students who had already become Kings had to be very cautious when choosing their teams.

Having strong power doesn’t mean being carefree.

The flag-capturing rule is a battle system, with each side sending out ten people, one-on-one duels; the loser steps down, and the winner continues to accept challenges.

Whoever stays till the end wins.

If it’s a Martial Artist duel, it’s naturally simple to have strong partnerships.

But for a Demon Spirit Master, the Lifebound Demon Spirit has a wide range of abilities; there’s attribute counters, profession counters, and even skill counters.

This also means a team must have different Combat Professions: Mage, Berserker, Assassin, Therapist, and so on.

The students refining the same type of Demon Spirit shouldn’t be too many in number, as their combat styles are similar.

”Selecting students might take one or two hours. Igor didn’t mention it, so it probably doesn’t count against the five-hour competition time,” Yun Tianqi said.

The King Becoming plan gathered students from countries all over the world, and they were mostly strangers to each other.

Besides cultivation and classes in daily life, every student’s schedule was packed, with sleep pushed to its limits, leaving little room for entertainment or social activities.

Even acquaintances were mostly just casual acquaintances.

Only students who shared the same mentor would be more familiar with each other, having some semblance of camaraderie.

But you can’t just find familiar classmates for teammates.

Students under the same mentor tend to have similar combat styles.

Like Ye Xing, who apprenticed under Gustav, most of his peers pursued the Berserker profession.

Yang Ningbing apprenticed under Reimer; all her peers were Thunder Technique users. If a team is composed of the same profession, they can easily be targeted, no matter how strong the members are, it’s hard to make it to the end.

”Thankfully, we don’t have to consider so much. Picking teammates is quite troublesome,” Ye Qiu said.

”Brother Feng!”

A familiar voice came, and Gong Shan, along with his sister Gong Xiaoxiao, approached Lin Feng.

”Xiaoxiao, call her sister.”

Dong Yunan immediately squatted down, pinched Gong Xiaoxiao’s chubby cheek, and grinned saying.

”Sister.”

Gong Xiaoxiao looked at her brother and timidly said.

”Call me sister, not your brother as sister.”

Dong Yunan pretended to be angry, then turned Gong Xiaoxiao’s face towards her: ”Say sister.”

”Xiaoxiao is getting smarter,” Ye Xing chuckled.

In the three months of mentoring, Gong Xiaoxiao’s strength improved rapidly, and her cognition also restored somewhat. Previously, she would only call ’brother,’ and now she can communicate simply.

”Sister.”

Gong Xiaoxiao hugged her brother’s leg, refusing to look at Dong Yunan, seeming a bit shy.

Gong Shan lovingly picked up his sister.

”By the way, we have seventeen people; we’re short three. How do we resolve this?”

Yang Ningbing asked.

While the students were all searching for their suitable teams or forming teams, Alice’s students, the Royal Descendants Army, stood there, looking bewildered and helpless.

It wasn’t that they hadn’t tried to find teams, but with their power, who would want them?

Sometimes, before they could speak, they were directly rejected. If luck was bad, they might get a few mocking words.

In the face of point rewards, nobody cared whether they had an Emperor backing them or not.

After being rejected several times, they stopped humiliating themselves further.

”Sigh.”

Mosi sighed, looking at the bustling scene around him with some melancholy.

”Why sigh? According to these crappy rules, the third plan will eliminate at least half or even two-thirds; do you think we have a chance? We’re lucky to have lasted until now.”

Chen Dali said, taking things much more lightly compared to Mosi’s depression.

In the second plan, for mentor selection battles, he became Alice’s student thanks to his Emperor second uncle.

It’s only with Alice’s peculiar examination topics that they managed to pass the assessment smoothly.

One could say that becoming an apprentice was already an extremely fortunate, unexpected thing.

Many students stronger than them were eliminated during the mentor selection battles.

This King Becoming plan has already reaped a lot; he didn’t dare to hope for more.

”Easier said than done. I don’t want the points nor can I get them, but I feel that if I endure in the training hall for two more months, there’s a hope of becoming a King.”

Mosi said bitterly.

In the face of the potential of becoming a King, who could bear to give up so easily?

Alice’s students numbered thirty, among them two had already become Kings. Now these two and their helpers weren’t staying in the team.

”With our strength, we’ll be the primary challenge target for other teams.”

”We all know that; you don’t need to remind us intentionally and lower the morale!”

”Is there any morale left to speak of?”

”We don’t have a single King; we simply don’t have the strength to defend the flag, only find other teams to guard it.”

”If some team would be willing to help guard the flag, with luck, we might not be eliminated.”

”The third plan is called flag capturing; since flags can be taken, who would want to help us guard?”

”Yeah, who would guard when they can take a flag for free, earning an extra two hundred points?”

The crowd discussed, with the atmosphere heavy and oppressive.

”Everyone, go ask around among familiar faces to see if any team is willing to guard the flag.”

Chen Dali said, and soon the crowd dispersed, beginning to trickle back after twenty minutes, each with a rather unpleasant expression.

After asking around, no one was willing to help them protect their banner.

”Let’s go find Lin Feng, he might be willing.”

Chen Dali suggested.

Originally, Lin Feng was not their first choice, but now he was their only hope.

The Avengers Alliance has seventeen people, four of whom in Yun Kai have become Kings. Although the team isn’t very strong, their track record is impressive and famous, perhaps there’s hope they won’t be eliminated.

In no time, the Royal Descendants Army arrived in front of Lin Feng and the others. Chen Dali plainly stated the purpose of their visit.

”You want us to protect your banner?”

Lin Feng asked, a bit surprised.

The Royal Descendants Army, being such a prized group, would certainly be the first choice for other teams to challenge, posing no difficulty, like picking up money.

Finding people to protect the banner is their only option, there’s nothing surprising about this.

Lin Feng was surprised as to why they chose them.

”Yes.”

Chen Dali nodded, sincerely.

”Why did you choose us?” Lin Feng asked.

According to common sense, the Avengers Alliance only has four Kings, their strength isn’t considered strong.

Other teams may have ten Kings, even entirely consist of Kings, they have no particular advantage.

”We’ve tried, other teams simply aren’t willing to help us protect the banner.”

Chen Dali gave a wry smile, not hiding anything, speaking honestly.

”Protect a damn banner? We were even planning to be the first to challenge you to the arena. You’re making it really difficult for us!”

Yu Qiao chuckled.

Both being from Hua Country, and with Chen Dali and Lin Feng under the same mentor, Yu Qiao and Chen Dali weren’t strangers, having eaten together several times. Yu Qiao patted Chen Dali’s shoulder and suggested, ”Since you’re going to be eliminated anyway, why not just give the Fire Banner to us.”

Chen Dali: ”...”

”How about it? Better to benefit your own than someone else.”

Yu Qiao continued to ask.

”Stop messing around.”

Chen Dali looked at Yu Qiao’s mischievous face, expression helplessly said.

They came to seek banner protection, not to give it away. Besides, even if he was willing, others wouldn’t be.

As long as there’s a one percent chance, no one would easily give up.

”Lin Feng, what do you think?”

Chen Dali ignored Yu Qiao’s suggestion, and looked at Lin Feng.

Based on his understanding, the Avengers Alliance was led by Lin Feng, as long as Lin Feng agreed, the others shouldn’t have different opinions.

Mosi and the others’ eyes also fell on Lin Feng.

However, in their hearts, they also weren’t confident.

Protecting the banner isn’t simply helping to insert a flag, it also carries significant risk.

The more Fire Banners, the greater the temptation, the more teams will naturally challenge.

With the reputation of the Avengers Alliance, if there was only one banner, perhaps no teams would challenge them.

After all, with just one banner, the yield is too low, and the risk too high.

But if there are multiple Fire Banners, with higher returns, the high risk becomes acceptable, naturally attracting more challengers.

”It can be done, but protecting the banner carries risks, you need to provide three months’ worth of Origin Power as a hardship fee.”

Lin Feng thought for a while and said.

Protecting the banner indeed carries risks, not many teams would dare to do it.

Especially starting with protecting a banner, such an action, if serious, is harming others without benefit to oneself.

According to the rules, a team can only own one Fire Banner, which only ensures they aren’t eliminated, with no point rewards.

With 55 teams, there are only 55 banners, if you protect one, the point pool decreases by two hundred points, which is an action that attracts enmity.

So Lin Feng couldn’t help them for free, their relationship wasn’t there yet.

Chen Dali and Mosi exchanged glances, and exchanged a few more with the other students.

It was expected that Lin Feng would ask for something in return.

Three months’ worth of Origin Power isn’t excessive.

Lin Feng’s not asking for too much.

Previously, Lin Feng auctioned off a mentor’s student place, and it was this amount.

If it were an individual, it would certainly be burdensome and possibly not worth it.

After all, mentor teaching had ended.

No one knows when the fourth plan will start, if it starts in a few days and they still face elimination, that would be too uneconomical.

But they have twenty people, and 12 of them have Emperor powerhouses in their family, gathering it up wouldn’t be too burdensome, it’s acceptable....

”What if the bannering fails?”

After a moment of hesitation, Chen Dali asked.

”It’s called a hardship fee for a reason, you still want us to work for free!”

Yu Qiao rolled his eyes, speaking with displeasure.

Chen Dali’s expression was awkward, hesitating to speak, but before he could, Lin Feng said, ”If banner protection fails, you won’t owe us anything, and we’ll compensate you for one month of Origin Power.”

”Deal!” Chen Dali said without hesitation.

The others also showed an expression of delight.

If it fails, there’s no cost, so there’s no risk.

If eliminated, there’s a month’s worth of Origin Power, with twenty people sharing it, clearly they wouldn’t get much, they wouldn’t mind, nor would they actually accept it, as that would be lacking foresight.

But Lin Feng saying this proves there is some confidence, not just casually protecting the banner in the mindset of not losing money anyway.
