I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 247: Chapter 153: First Stop, The Oil Rig (2)

The women didn’t mind. Some binge-watched dramas, while others chatted.

Su Qing and Cheng Jing, in particular, saw how pretty and cute Yi Chen was and were dying to gossip about her and Gu Nan.

They found it amusing when their teasing made the young woman blush, and by the end of the night, they had already accepted her as their ”little sister.”

At four in the morning, the phone alarm rang right on time.

Startled awake, Gu Nan reached out to turn off the alarm, wanting to go back to sleep with his eyes still closed.

This kind of large yacht was relatively stable, and the luxurious room was so comfortable that it was hard for him to get up.

Still, he rubbed his face to wake himself up. He had promised to get up at this time to fish, and he couldn’t break his word.

However, when he got up and walked over to the door of Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao’s room, he heard thunderous snoring from inside.

The two of them hadn’t slept with their wives last night. Instead, they’d slept in a separate room specifically so they wouldn’t disturb anyone when they got up in the early morning.

And yet...

Gu Nan shook his head helplessly and decided not to wake them.

The yacht was quiet now, and the lights were all off. Apparently, it had been stopped for some time.

But because they planned to fish early, they had specifically instructed the captain last night to stop in a spot where there were fish.

Gu Nan went to the pilothouse, turned on all the lights on the aft deck, and then glanced at the fish finder.

The water here was over 130 meters deep, and there were schools of fish at the bottom. Clearly, they could only go for deep-sea fish.

Gu Nan then checked the navigation system and found that places like the oil rigs and the great atoll could all be found on it. That being the case, there was no need to memorize the coordinates.

’In the future, when I come out here on my own boat, I can just search the destination on the navigator and turn on cruise mode.’

He walked out of the pilothouse and was about to head to the aft deck when he had a thought. He went back inside and deployed all the fish-attracting lights on the boat.

If there were any tuna nearby, these lights might draw them in.

Besides, the lights didn’t just attract tuna; other phototactic creatures would also come to join the party.

Then, Gu Nan went to the gear room and took out two boat rods. The rock fishing rods he brought were just for backup and wouldn’t typically be used.

First, he set up the holders for the electric rods, then mounted the rods themselves.

After tying on a bait cage and a lure, Gu Nan moved on to the second fishing rod.

The Antarctic shrimp were still thawing, so he would have to wait.

Fortunately, it was summer. Even though the temperature wasn’t high on the open sea at four in the morning, the Antarctic shrimp still thawed faster than in other seasons.

At night, the sea was pitch-black in all directions, with only the lights from the yacht’s aft deck illuminating a small patch of water.

Gu Nan placed the thawed Antarctic shrimp into the bait cage, cast out his hooked bait, and began to fish.

”Ah Nan!”

Just then, a voice called out from behind him. Gu Nan turned around in surprise. ”Chenchen, why are you up so early?”

The person who appeared wasn’t Wang Junhe or Guo Xiao, the ones he had planned to fish with, but his own girlfriend. This was quite a surprise.

”I woke up and saw the lights on, so I came out to take a look. I didn’t expect you to be fishing. You didn’t stay up all night, did you?” Yi Chen came up to him, eyeing him suspiciously.

Gu Nan smoothed her slightly messy hair and smiled. ”I just got up, too. Didn’t I make plans with Brother Wang and the others yesterday? Turns out they couldn’t get up.”

”Oh, I see!” Yi Chen nodded in understanding. She had heard about the three of them planning to fish. Besides, she didn’t see any fish in the cooler nearby, so he obviously wasn’t lying.

Then she noticed Gu Nan was using two rods by himself and asked curiously, ”How are you using two rods by yourself?”

”These are electric rods. They’re for semi-automatic fishing. You press this to let out the line and let the bait sink to the bottom, and when a fish bites, you press this to reel it in. Want to give it a try?” Seeing Yi Chen’s interest in the rods, Gu Nan invited her to fish with him.

’I’m not trying to catch the game-produced seafood anyway, so it’s better to have company.’

’If I get tired, I can sleep in the afternoon. The others will definitely be active in the morning and evening, but they’ll probably stay inside the cabin in the afternoon.’

”Okay!” As expected, Yi Chen agreed without hesitation.

Seeing her agree, Gu Nan went over, scooped up a live shrimp, and replaced the lure with it.

The chances of catching a fish with a lure weren’t very high. Using live shrimp would get a bite quickly, letting Yi Chen experience the fun of fishing.

Sure enough, after they both dropped their hooked bait into the water, Yi Chen’s line was the first to get a bite.

The tip of the rod bent downward and trembled slightly. She quickly shouted, ”Ah Nan, look! Did I get a fish?”

”You did! Press the button to reel it in!”

”Oh, okay!”

Yi Chen hurriedly pressed the button, and the electric reel immediately started winding the line.

The line was coming in at a normal speed, so the fish clearly wasn’t very big.

Seeing this, Gu Nan placed his rod in a holder on the gunwale and picked up the landing net to get ready.

Live shrimp was really effective. He hadn’t gotten a single nibble, but Yi Chen’s fish was already almost at the surface.

No wonder so many recreational fishing spots banned the use of loaches and live shrimp; it really made catching fish easy.

After a short while, a plump alfonsino appeared on the surface of the water.

This one was different from a red beryx; it was much larger and looked more like a sea bream. But its eyes also had a hint of pale yellow, making it look very beautiful.

”Hey, this fish has golden eyes too!” Yi Chen naturally noticed this. She was all too familiar with the alfonsino from their shop and immediately spotted the similarity.

”That’s right. This one is also called an alfonsino, but it’s not the same kind we have in the shop. This is a splendid alfonsino,” Gu Nan explained to his girlfriend as he scooped the fish up with the net.

Splendid alfonsinos could be caught in most of China’s offshore waters, and they fetched a decent price.

Because they were only found in deep offshore waters, they were usually sold frozen; chilled ones were not common.

The one Yi Chen caught was over thirty centimeters long, but its back was wide and its belly was big. When Gu Nan lifted it, he estimated it was three to four pounds.

Yi Chen looked at the fish she had caught, slightly excited. When she first learned how much money Gu Nan made from fishing, she had wanted to try it too.

Later, seeing the shop’s high daily revenue and her own high salary, she had suppressed the thought.

Today was her first time fishing at sea, and she thought the feeling was really great.

Gu Nan first put the fish into the cooler filled with ice water, then scooped out another live shrimp.

”Ah Nan, teach me how to bait the hook!” Yi Chen didn’t want her boyfriend to do everything for her and interrupt his own fishing.

Besides, she also wanted to learn how to fish. Gu Nan had already ordered a large boat, and she would definitely be joining him on trips from time to time in the future.

She already knew that their current seafood shop would eventually be handed over to her future parents-in-law. This meant that if she went out to sea with him, one of them could look after their other shop. She wasn’t worried that the business would have to close just because she was away.

Since Yi Chen wanted to learn, Gu Nan was happy to teach her. He demonstrated how to bait the hook with a shrimp, then let her try it herself.

It wasn’t a difficult task, and she got the hang of it after two tries, though the poor live shrimp was on its last legs by the time they were done with it.

Yi Chen went back to fishing with the electric reel, while Gu Nan returned to his own rod and started bottom fishing. After a little while, he got a bite too.

The fish wasn’t big, so he reeled it in quickly.

It was a deep-sea false kelpfish, about two pounds.

The population of this type of fish seemed quite high. Basically, if you found a school of deep-sea fish, you could always catch a lot of them in one night.

Their meat was delicious, even tastier than a typical grouper.

Yi Chen looked at the fish in his hand and giggled. ”You’re not doing so great, are you? The fish I caught is still bigger!”

Gu Nan looked at her and said meaningfully, ”That’s right. Yours is bigger!”

Yi Chen froze for a second, then her face turned slightly red and she shot him a look of shy anger.

’There was nothing wrong with the words, but that expression of his was a different story!’

But she was too embarrassed to call out the hidden meaning, so she could only huff lightly and turn her head away, ignoring him.

Gu Nan chuckled, thinking that the custom gift he had ordered should be ready by the time they got back.

When the time came and his girlfriend was in the mood, maybe...

The next moment, a powerful tug on his fishing rod interrupted his lewd thoughts.

Gu Nan snapped back to reality and quickly lifted the rod to set the hook. A look of surprise crossed his face. ’Could it be? If I think about something big, I’ll catch something big?’
