I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 219: Chapter 142: Successfully Getting One (Part 2)

He had seized the initiative. Not only did he set the hook, but he also caught the fish off guard, successfully reeling in a few meters of line.

However, the fish quickly reacted. The combined pull from Gu Nan and the electric reel was no match for it. Not only could he not turn the handle, but the line was also being pulled out at an incredible speed.

ZZZZZZZ...

To a true angler’s ears, the sound of the line stripping from the electric reel was beautiful music.

Perhaps because the fish was swimming further away, the golden Fengqi boat rod wasn’t bent as dramatically as it was at first, straightening up just a tiny bit.

The electric reel was running continuously. Its pulling force, combined with the locked drag, was likely putting a load of over two hundred jin on the fish.

And yet, the speed at which the line was being pulled out was no slower than with the five hundred-plus-jin India Spearfish from last time. That fish hadn’t been under such a heavy load, so this one was clearly much stronger.

’At this rate, the chances of it being Legendary are extremely high!’

Gu Nan strained to lift the fishing rod with both hands, adding even more of a load for the fish to bear.

Unfortunately, since the rod was in a holder on the gunwale, the pressure he could apply wasn’t as great as when he held the rod himself.

In just a short while, the electric reel became extremely hot. Gu Nan piled some crushed ice that hadn’t completely melted from last night on top of it to help cool it down.

At the same time, he turned off the electric reel to prevent it from overheating and burning out. Among all his gear, only the newbie equipment was indestructible when using its guaranteed-hit charges. Unfortunately, it had no stats, and with a line that was too short, it was impossible to use for catching a BOSS.

If the golden set broke, he just had to put it in his game inventory and spend Gold Coins to repair it. The amount of Gold Coins required would depend on the extent of the damage.

But Gu Nan estimated the price wouldn’t be cheap; after all, the fishing rod set alone had cost fifty thousand.

A broken line could be repaired, and lost hooks and bait could be replenished. He was quite satisfied with this feature.

Without the pull from the electric reel, there was only the drag. The India Spearfish now swam even faster, and it was useless even with Gu Nan gripping the handle for dear life.

Fortunately, the line was a full three thousand meters long, so he could let it run for a while longer.

With the electric reel, Gu Nan wasn’t worried about being unable to reel it back in if it ran too far.

More than ten minutes passed, and the India Spearfish had easily pulled out over twelve hundred meters of line.

Its speed showed no signs of slowing. Gu Nan swallowed hard, feeling like he had underestimated this fish.

Another half an hour went by. He had turned the electric reel on once more, but the great fish was still approaching the two-thousand-meter mark without stopping to rest.

’In this situation, if I let the fish keep running, three thousand meters of line really won’t be enough.’

Fortunately, the ice he had placed on it had completely melted by now, and the electric reel had mostly cooled down.

Gu Nan started it up again. The sudden pulling force clearly slowed the great fish’s speed.

At the same time, he seized the opportunity to forcefully turn the handle, but it wouldn’t budge. However, for a moment, they were locked in a stalemate.

Gu Nan’s eyes lit up. He had tried this before and couldn’t even force a stalemate. That he could hold it now clearly meant the fish was tiring; its strength was far from what it had been.

’Even if its first burst of energy isn’t over yet, it has to be close.’

Time slowly passed. The sun had gradually climbed high into the sky, its rays beating down on him and making him feel scorching hot.

Fortunately, the morning sun was a little bit kinder and not as vicious as the midday sun.

Gu Nan himself didn’t know how much time had passed; all he knew was that his hands were sore.

The electric reel was also getting hotter and hotter, but just then, the handle suddenly turned! He was overjoyed. ’The first burst is finally over.’

’Once the first burst is over, the chances of landing this fish increase by at least 50%.’

He took advantage of the fish’s rest period. Ignoring his sore and weak right hand, he quickly worked with the electric reel to take back the line.

The line came in incredibly fast; in just a short while, he had recovered over fifty meters.

During the fish’s rest, the golden set’s line and bait were continuously draining its stamina. This extended its rest time significantly and undoubtedly made it easier for Gu Nan to land his catch.

He reeled in the line for a full ten minutes, recovering over five hundred meters in total, before the India Spearfish started struggling again.

The second burst of energy arrived. The pressure was still just as immense. Gu Nan turned off the electric reel first to prevent it from overheating.

He held down the handle and lifted the rod, trying his best to slow the rate at which the line spooled out.

’That’s right. During this second burst, even with the electric reel, I still can’t stop the line from running out. I might as well let the reel cool down first.’

’This is so exhausting, and being baked by the sun on top of it all... No wonder anglers prefer to fish at night.’

The force of the second burst was indeed not as strong as the first, but it was still not to be underestimated.

Gu Nan now understood how the great Marlin Fish from *The Old Man and the Sea* could drag a small boat across the ocean for three days.

But the one in the story was even bigger—fifteen hundred pounds, which was 1,360 jin.

’This one is at most eight hundred jin, and probably not even that.’

Whether it was an India Spearfish or a Black Marlin, it was rare for them to grow that large. Only the Atlantic Blue Spear was known to reach such colossal sizes.

But the difficulty of catching a Legendary spearfish versus a King-tier one was more than just one level apart; the gap was truly immense.

’If I were fighting a King-tier today, I’d probably be close to landing it by now.’

During the second burst, the line was pulled out to over twenty-two hundred meters again. Not only was all the line he just recovered pulled back out, but he was now in the red by another two hundred-plus meters.

Fortunately, the fish was tired again. Gu Nan turned on the electric reel to take in the line, while he let go of the handle and couldn’t help but shake out his arms to relieve the soreness.

After his arms felt a bit better, he walked into the cabin to grab a bottle of mineral water, only to find that the hand holding it was shaking uncontrollably.
