I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 176: Chapter 129: Golden Legend

So it was chilled!

The game’s notification was understandable. A grouper this large would be incredibly difficult to keep alive. A small pool wouldn’t be enough, and it would be a real challenge to transport it all the way from East Africa while keeping it alive. Only a tank the size of a large room, like the ones in public aquariums, could house it.

’I still have a lot of guaranteed catches left for tonight,’ he thought. ’I’ll just put this one in the aquarium for now. If I happen to catch a second one, I’ll think about keeping it live.’

He checked the fishing guide. The fish was 1.81 meters long—Monarch-level.

Gu Nan’s eyes lit up. It was time for a huge haul!

[Elite Giant Collection Quest: Reward: 4,000 Gold Coins, 10 Silver Keys.]

[Elite Monarch Collection Quest: Reward: 8,000 Gold Coins, 1 Gold Key.]

All of his elite fish had already reached the Legendary Level; he was just missing the rank for an elite boss. Thanks to his luck tonight, he caught a Monarch-level one, completing two collection quests in one fell swoop.

The quests directly awarded him 12,000 Gold Coins. Adding the 5,000 from a separate bonus for completing two elite quests and the extra 2,000 bonus for the elite boss, he earned a total of 19,000 Gold Coins.

This brought Gu Nan’s total Gold Coins to 54,730.

’Fuse! Time to fuse!’

Gu Nan immediately stored the entire purple Fengqi set in the game, including the box of bait. He then clicked on the fusion stone and spent 50,000 Gold Coins to begin the process.

The fusion stone slammed into the purple fishing rod, then erupted in a dazzling golden light.

A full ten seconds passed before the golden light completely disappeared.

The Legendary-tier Fengqi Fishing Rod had unexpectedly split in two. However, it hadn’t turned completely gold as Gu Nan had expected. Instead, intricate golden patterns now adorned its original purple body, giving the rod an incredibly high-end, impressive look.

The most surprising thing was that one fishing rod had become two.

One of the rods looked much like the original: a 4.5-meter rock fishing rod paired with a large reel, capable of handling huge fish up to 1,100 pounds.

Whether Gu Nan himself could actually reel one in, however, was another matter.

Furthermore, its special effect, which used to quickly drain the stamina of sea creatures under 55 pounds, now worked on anything under 110 pounds.

This meant that aside from bosses, Gu Nan could handle almost any other fish with ease.

In addition to the rock fishing rod, a boat rod had also appeared, and it was paired with an electric reel.

Gu Nan curiously checked the stats on the electric reel. He discovered it could quickly reel in any fish up to 110 pounds.

For fish over 110 pounds, he would have to assist manually, or risk being unable to pull it in and having the fish break free.

Seeing this, Gu Nan understood. Aside from a few remaining quests, he had essentially cleared the Fengqi Coast map.

The attributes of both fishing rods were the same.

Attributes: Large Fish Bonus +50%, Rare Fish Bonus +30%. Fengqi Coast Daily Guaranteed Catches +20.

Set: Fengqi Coast Daily Guaranteed Catches +10, Elite Fish Hook Rate +30%, Extra Gold Coins Bonus +5,000.

Simplified Mode: The user can simplify the pool of 32 species down to a minimum of 16. When Simplified Mode is active, the Legendary Fengqi Fishing Rod will only catch the selected species.

Targeted Mode: Select one species from the map’s catch pool. When this mode is active, the hook rate for small and medium-sized individuals of that species increases by 60%, and the hook rate for large-sized individuals increases by 30%. Giant-sized and larger individuals cannot be caught.

’Hot damn, I’m already back up to over 9,700 Gold Coins,’ Gu Nan thought. ’Once I finish my dailies tonight and use a Gold Coin card, it won’t be long before I can afford that purple Seven Star fishing rod.’

The rod’s two built-in modes made Gu Nan’s eyes sparkle. ’Both of these are incredibly useful!’

He could barely sell fish like the Bushi Golden Needlefish, so they just ended up piling up in his aquarium. Even with his high-spec purple rod, he’d still catch them during normal fishing sessions.

Now, with Simplified Mode, he could just filter out these hard-to-sell fish.

From the regular catch pool, Gu Nan selected fish that sold well, like the Black-striped Small Stripes Buri, Blue-striped Gidai, Yellowfin Gidai, and other two and three-star fish.

The Longnose Trevally tasted good, but it wasn’t a great seller, so he removed it.

The four-star Fischer’s Pomfret sold even more poorly than the Longnose Trevally, mostly just taking up space in the aquarium, so he removed that one too.

The remaining four and five-star fish all sold relatively well, so he kept all of them.

With that, he had narrowed the regular catch pool down to ten species.

The Star Chicken Fish actually sold quite well. After some consideration, Gu Nan ultimately decided to keep it on the list.

The main reason was that Yi Chen’s relatives wanted this fish, and their weekly orders were substantial.

Even so, his normal catch rate for them wasn’t as high as it used to be. He figured he could probably just barely keep up with the demand, so he decided he might as well keep selling them.

From the elite catch pool, the Gray Large-eye Bream, White-edged Slender Grouper, Twin-spot Hogfish, Twospot Snapper, and Malabar Grouper were also poor sellers.

As for the two ornamental fish, he decided to remove them as well. ’Ornamental fish don’t really sell around here anyway,’ he figured. ’I’ll just wait until someone asks for them.’

So, that left him with nine elite species. In total, he had simplified the pool of 32 fish down to 19. This would significantly increase his productivity from now on.

He already had stock of the thirteen species he’d filtered out, either in his aquarium or in chilled storage. The shop still had some inventory left, so he could just sell it off slowly.

Then there was the Targeted Mode. The hook rate for the elite boss was abysmally low; in all this time, he had only just caught his second one.

But now, with this mode, he could farm that species in large numbers.

Unlike marlin, groupers sold well regardless of size. The wild Blue-bodied Large-spot Grouper was also quite rare. He figured many people, upon learning he had them for sale, would probably buy one to raise at home.
