I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 161: Chapter 124: A Great Bite After the Typhoon

The timing of this typhoon was actually pretty good. It coincided with a neap tide, so the water didn’t rise and flood the roads.

The buses resumed service after the typhoon passed. There weren’t any fallen trees along the roads, but they were littered with trash and leaves.

After returning to Yangjiang Port, Gu Nan first went to the seafood market to get his electric scooter, then headed for the docks.

As he was passing a rocky section of the coast, innumerable flashes of silver caught his eye.

Gu Nan turned his head to look. Holy shit, it was all fish.

He quickly parked his scooter and jogged over, only realizing as he got closer that he wasn’t the first one there.

A large orange cat was sitting on a nearby rock. Its belly was round and plump, and it was staring melancholically at the small, stranded fish covering the ground.

Hearing the commotion, it turned and glanced at him.

”Holy shit, Dahuang, what are you doing here?”

”MEOW~”

Recognizing a familiar face, Dahuang meowed in greeting.

Yi Chen often fed the cat and bought it treats, so Dahuang was quite friendly with both of them and wasn’t scared when he ran over.

Then again, as the resident old-timer and unofficial manager of the seafood market, Dahuang wasn’t afraid of strangers anyway.

Gu Nan went over and rubbed its belly. It was taut and round—clearly, the cat had eaten its fill.

He glanced at the sardines flopping around on the beach and couldn’t help but laugh. ’Its eyes were definitely bigger than its stomach!’

”Don’t you worry, I’ll go get some boxes and save them for you.” Gu Nan gave Dahuang’s head another pat, then hurried back. He rode his scooter to the shop, loaded several styrofoam boxes onto his three-wheeler, grabbed a scoop net, and headed out again.

When he got back to the beach, Dahuang was still there, but now so was a stranger, who was stuffing fish into a burlap sack.

Gu Nan carried his styrofoam boxes over, and with one sweep of his net, he hauled in a full catch of fish.

The sardines must have just been washed ashore. Most were still alive, and even the dead ones were freshly deceased and still good.

It only took him three scoops with the net to nearly fill a 50x60 cm styrofoam box. Then he moved on to the next.

While the other guy was still struggling to fill a single burlap sack by hand, Gu Nan had already filled all eight of the boxes he’d brought.

The man next to him was green with envy. He put on a fawning smile and called out, ”Hey, brother, can I borrow that net for a minute?”

”Help yourself!”

”Thanks a lot, brother! It’s so much faster with a net. You filled those eight boxes in just a few sweeps.”

”Of course. It’s mainly because there are so many fish.”

”It’s a good thing not many people have found this spot yet. I heard the beach on Lingdou Island is packed with people right now. It’s crazy!”

Gu Nan had a moment of realization. ”Oh, really? No wonder there’s no one here with all these fish. Everyone must have gone over there.”

He prepared to load the styrofoam boxes onto his three-wheeler and take the first batch back to the shop.

Just then, a passing fishmonger noticed what was happening and came over to take a look.

”Well, well, look at all these sardines. You guys selling? I’ll take them for five a jin.”

The corner of Gu Nan’s mouth twitched when he heard the price. These were large sardines, most of them fifteen to twenty centimeters long. In the market, they usually sold for twenty to thirty a jin.

Even the extra-small ones could fetch ten.

This guy offering five meant that the beaches were probably flooded with them, so all the fishmongers were lowballing the price.

”You’d better go buy from somewhere else!” Gu Nan refused with a shake of his head. He could easily sell them for ten a jin at his shop. Why sell them to this fishmonger just for convenience’s sake?

The other man had been about to sell, but he hesitated after hearing Gu Nan’s refusal.

The fishmonger wasn’t about to coddle them. He immediately turned to leave. ”Fine, don’t sell! Let them rot in your hands for all I care!”

He didn’t have time to gather the fish himself. He could buy them here for five a jin and then sell them in the next city for four or five times the price.

’I’m better off using this time to buy a few hundred more jin. I’d make way more money!’

”Hey, wait, wait! I’ll sell, I’ll sell! Take a look at how much I’ve got.” Seeing the fishmonger about to leave, the other man couldn’t hold back any longer. He called him to a stop and dragged his burlap sack over.

The fishmonger took out a digital scale, weighed the fish, and paid the man. Promising to come back later for more, he drove off in a flash.

By this time, Gu Nan had finished loading his styrofoam boxes onto the three-wheeler and took his net back as well.

He returned to his seafood shop, carried the boxes inside, and then rummaged around until he found three burlap sacks that Yi Chen had put away.

He also grabbed three larger styrofoam boxes and went back to get more fish.

It felt like picking up free money. Even if the fish sold for cheap, Gu Nan was thrilled!

This was now, of course. If he’d encountered something like this before the ’game binding,’ he would have been ecstatic.

But when he got back, a few more people had shown up, and the number of fish had visibly dwindled.

Gu Nan hurried over to get his share, scooping energetically with his net.

By the time he’d filled his bags and boxes, the fish on that stretch of beach were almost all gone.

Gu Nan returned with a full load, having collected a total of seven or eight hundred jin of sardines for free.

He had just gotten back to the shop when a few neighboring owners he was on good terms with came rushing over.

”Ah Nan, perfect timing! Hurry to the beach! We heard a huge school of sardines got washed ashore by the waves, and now tons of people are over there... uh!”

The shop owner never got to finish his sentence. He and the others who had come to give a friendly tip-off saw the dozen or so boxes and three burlap sacks filled to the brim with fish inside the shop and were left completely dumbfounded.

Gu Nan looked at the dazed shop owners and said with a smile, ”I found them pretty early and managed to grab a bunch while no one was around. You guys should hurry over. They’ll all be gone soon.”

”You little rascal, making a big score without a peep! Come on, let’s go, we’ve got to get some for ourselves. If we can’t find any, buying some on the cheap wouldn’t be bad either.”
