I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 162: Chapter 124: The Post-Typhoon Biting Frenzy (Part 2)

The shop owners left. Gu Nan wasn’t going to go over there anymore.

’There are definitely more fish in other places, but it’s crowded now. If I went, I’d probably only get a few hundred yuan’s worth at most. Not worth the trouble.’

He then pulled out his phone to check it. It seemed someone had just sent him a message.

He opened it and saw that it was from Yi Chen. She had also gone to the beach to pick up fish and was telling him to hurry over.

Gu Nan smiled and casually replied with an ”Okay.”

’I wonder what her expression will be when she comes over tomorrow and sees all these fish in the shop.’

He then sorted through the sardines, putting as many as he could into the freezer.

Those that didn’t fit were placed on the display counter or put in boxes with some ice to preserve them.

Unfortunately, the market would surely be flooded with sardines tomorrow. He’d either have to sell his cheap or freeze them to sell to anglers as chum.

’The good thing is, I got them all for free. As long as they sell, it’s pure profit.’

After closing up the shop, Gu Nan headed straight for the wharf, which was bustling with activity.

Many people were untying the ropes that bound their boats together and tidying up their vessels.

After a typhoon, the bite is always hot. Now was the time to get the boats ready; twelve hours later would be the perfect time to head out to sea.

It wasn’t advisable to go out just yet. The typhoon had made direct landfall, causing immense damage to the seabed, and the swells wouldn’t subside so quickly.

Moreover, the reverse winds couldn’t be underestimated. Such winds often brought prolonged gales and torrential rain. Mountain floods would carry silt and sand, turning the sea into a muddy, yellow soup.

The schools of fish that had taken shelter from the typhoon wouldn’t like this muddy soup either, as they wouldn’t be able to find any food in it.

So, once the sea calmed down and the water cleared up about twelve hours later, that would be the best time for fishing.

Even though Gu Nan could catch fish from the ”game map” and wasn’t as affected by the bite, he wouldn’t head out now. The wind and waves were still quite strong.

Just as he expected, the boat was filthy, mostly covered in yellow mud and sand.

His boat, wedged in the middle, was in relatively good shape. The ones on the outside were in worse condition.

He first rinsed the fishing boat with seawater, then filled a large bucket with fresh water from the wharf and rinsed it a second time.

You could get a water card at the wharf to access fresh water. Many boats without desalination units would fill up here. The price was the same as tap water at home; a few yuan’s worth would last a long time.

After cleaning up, Gu Nan bought some groceries and fruit to store in the boat’s cabin. He also sent a message to Yi Chen, telling her he probably wouldn’t be at the shop tomorrow, or if he was, it would be late at night.

After dinner, he deliberately filled small bags with water and put them in the freezer to make ice.

He had used almost all the crushed ice in the shop on the sardines. He figured he’d catch a lot of local fish on this trip, so he needed to prepare some ice.

He estimated he’d have about two boxes’ worth of ice. Then, he started chopping up sardines to take with him that night for chum. Once he was done, he went home to get some rest early.

He woke up a little after two in the morning.

Outside, the wind and waves had calmed. Although it hadn’t been twelve hours since the typhoon passed, it was already safe enough to go out to sea.

Gu Nan made a special trip to his aquatic product shop. He took out the ice he had made and the sardine chum, then loaded up his tricycle with a bunch of empty foam boxes until it was full before heading to the wharf.

’Ordering them directly through the game costs extra for shipping, but at least the shop will never run out of boxes.’

Gu Nan thought he was early, but he found that Fisherman’s Wharf was already crowded with anglers, all clearly preparing to head out.

A typhoon is a natural disaster, but for fishermen who make a living by angling, it’s also a rare opportunity.

Gu Nan was already prepared. After moving the ice and empty boxes onto the boat, he started the fishing boat’s engine and set off.

Seeing five or six boats heading in the same direction, an idea struck him. He adjusted the rudder slightly and followed behind them.

’These professional anglers have experience and inside information. They definitely know where the schools of fish are. I can just tag along and join the fun.’

About forty minutes later, in a stretch of water thirteen nautical miles from shore, a large number of fishing boats were stopped.

There were at least seventy or eighty boats here, the most Gu Nan had ever seen in one place.

As soon as he arrived, he saw a huge school of fish on his fish finder at a depth of about twenty meters.

He picked up his binoculars to see how the others were doing and saw Spanish mackerels being pulled up one after another. Clearly, there was a school of them here.

The fish were a decent size; several of the ones being caught were about half a meter long.

For a Spanish mackerel, this length wasn’t actually that big, just within the normal range for an adult.

Gu Nan didn’t hesitate. He took out the purple Fengqi Fishing Rod and started fishing.

Spanish mackerels can get exceptionally large. His green Seven Star Rod probably wouldn’t be up to the task of landing a big one; the Fengqi Fishing Rod was a safer bet.

He tossed in some chopped-up sardines. After waiting a short while, he saw the Spanish mackerels from below being drawn to the surface to feed, and he immediately cast his lure.

SWOOSH~

He got a strike almost instantly. The lure had barely hit the water before it was dragged away.

Gu Nan raised his rod to set the hook. The fish was powerful, and the pull was fantastic. Spanish mackerel are excellent game fish, perfect for sport.

But he had no time for sport right now. He cranked the handle rapidly and quickly reeled in a Spanish mackerel about half a meter long.

The fish had bitten right at the surface. Gu Nan absorbed the initial strike then immediately locked his reel. Where could the fish possibly run? It took almost no time at all.

The Spanish mackerel thrashed on the surface, splashing seawater everywhere and scaring off the other mackerels that had come to feed.

But after just a few seconds, it felt its strength draining away rapidly, and its struggles became much weaker.
