I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 153: Chapter 121: Typhoon Outside, I Go Beachcombing (2)

A two-meter yellowcheek carp like this must weigh over 150 pounds. It can eat at least 50 pounds of fish a day, which is a huge blow to the local ecosystem.

No wonder so many fishermen go home empty-handed—this thing ate all the fish!

Hearing Gu Nan say no one wanted it, a nearby shop owner’s interest was piqued. He immediately threw out a feeler, ”If no one wants it, doesn’t that mean you’re stuck with it? How about I take it off your hands? Two thousand. What do you say?”

”So what if I’m stuck with it? It’s not like I’m hurting for a few thousand. My two shops just merged, and it’s looking pretty empty before the new stock arrives. A big fish like this can at least take up some space.” Gu Nan casually brushed him off with an excuse.

At the same time, he sneered inwardly. ’Two thousand for my fish? He must be dreaming!’

Saying no one wanted it was just his way of being modest. In reality, the market for large fish had always been excellent. Once word got out, hotels and even some seafood distributors would send people to make an offer.

He might not get over ten thousand for it, but clearing five thousand was an absolute certainty.

It was just that Gu Nan didn’t really care about a few thousand anymore. Displaying a giant fish at the entrance would attract plenty of attention, and customers would naturally be drawn into his shop for a look.

Moreover, fishing enthusiasts who came after hearing the news and even some wealthy patrons would come to see the spectacle. These hidden benefits were something a mere few thousand yuan couldn’t compare to.

After the refusal, Gu Nan was no longer in the mood to show off. He asked the surrounding shop owners to clear a path, then started his three-wheeler and drove to his shopfront.

His shop was located in the middle of the seafood market, and the commotion out front didn’t catch Yi Chen’s attention. She was currently hard at work editing a video!

The video’s view count was looking pretty good so far. If she kept it up, she could be making five or six thousand, maybe even ten thousand a month just from her social media income.

Earning that kind of money just by working during her free time at the shop made it all the sweeter!

When Yi Chen saw Gu Nan had returned, she was about to say hello, but then she noticed the massive tail hanging off the back of the three-wheeler.

She quickly got up and walked over to take a look. Seeing yet another two-meter fish, she asked in astonishment, ”Boss, did you just go buy a fish?”

”Buy a fish? Who do you take me for! I caught this one. Just now!”

Upon hearing that, Yi Chen’s large eyes narrowed slightly. ”So, when you said you were going out to take care of something, you meant you were going fishing?”

”...” For some reason, her stare made Gu Nan feel inexplicably guilty. For certain reasons, he didn’t feel it was right to pull the ”I’m the boss” card.

So he slapped the side of the three-wheeler hard and said indignantly, ”It was all some old man’s fault! He wanted to go fishing, but he didn’t have his own ride and insisted I take him to the bank of the Yang River.”

”And then what? I saw what looked like a real menace in the Yang River, so for the sake of the aquatic ecosystem, I went ahead and took care of it.”

”This yellowcheek carp eats dozens of pounds of smaller fish a day. It had to be dealt with!”

Yi Chen hadn’t expected Gu Nan to justify himself like that. It was clear he saw her as more than just an employee.

A sweet feeling bloomed in her heart. She then looked at his hand. ”Okay, okay, you were getting rid of a menace. But you hit it so hard just now. Doesn’t your hand hurt?”

”Hiss... Now that you mention it, it actually does hurt a little. I was just so furious!”

”Let me rub it for you.”

Without another word, Yi Chen took his large hand and began to gently massage it with her own small one.

The owner of the neighboring abalone shop was about to come over to see the big fish, but upon seeing this scene, he broke into a knowing, aunt-like smile and returned to his own store.

Gu Nan looked at Yi Chen, who was acting just like a doting girlfriend, and his eyes flickered.

’Letting things develop naturally like this feels pretty good,’ he thought. ’I’ll take it slow. There’s no need to rush.’

’This is a perfect chance to catch more big fish and train up my core Power. You have to hold the rod high to go deep, after all!’

”Yi Chen, just display this fish out front. We’re not selling it, no matter who asks. I’m going to buy a small mobile hoist and get one installed on the fishing boat, too.”

So that was the ”something” he had to take care of earlier.

”Okay. But you’re not going to haul another giant fish back this time, are you?”

”This time, I’m really going on business.”

Gu Nan gave an embarrassed laugh, then hopped on his electric scooter and beat a hasty retreat.

Yi Chen gave a radiant smile, watching him leave before returning to the shop to get back to her work.

This time, Gu Nan wasn’t held up by another old fishing fanatic. He took his boat to the shipyard and had them install the small hoist.

Because it was going on the boat, he picked a hoist that was a little bit bigger. It was supposedly able to lift a one-ton object, though he wasn’t sure what its true capacity was.

It was more than enough for his purposes, though. What would he even do if he caught one of those multi-ton monsters from the sea?

The shipyard helped him order a small, portable hoist, which would be delivered directly to the shop, arriving sometime before five in the afternoon.

With this new gadget, it would be more convenient for Gu Nan to load goods for Zhao Jie in the future.

While Zhao Jie’s vehicle could drive into the seafood market, the narrow road made it a huge hassle. The hoist would let them move the goods directly to the entrance.

The two hoists, plus installation fees and other costs, totaled seven thousand yuan, a price Gu Nan could accept.

The weather on the eve of a typhoon is always strange. Sometimes it’s perfectly calm, and other times, wind and rain will blow in to remind you that an even bigger storm is coming.

This time, his luck wasn’t so good. The typhoon was forecast to make landfall at five in the morning the day after tomorrow, but by the time the hoist was installed on his fishing boat, it started to rain again, and it was coming down hard.

The wind and waves were considerable, too. Although he could get back to the docks, going out to sea tonight was out of the question; the port authorities wouldn’t allow it.

As for fishing in the reef areas or under the bridge piers, to be honest, that would be even less safe than taking the boat out to sea.

That evening at closing time, Gu Nan straightened the slightly crooked hood on Yi Chen’s raincoat for her. ”If the wind and rain are heavy tomorrow, you don’t need to come into work. This is a pretty big typhoon, and your place is an old house. If you have any problems, remember to give me a call.”
