His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2017: Chapter 578: At Your Beck and Call

The basin of coffee-colored water came down; Zhang Hongyun was badly startled, but she couldn’t even open her eyes. Her mouth only gaped in shock as the water poured down from the top of her head.

Like a whole pot of cold water dumped right on her head!

Standing inside by the window, Qin Mingzhu couldn’t help but snort with laughter at the sight.

The books Zhang Hongyun had just bought, one by one, slowly slipped from her arms onto the ground. Her eyes slowly opened, but they were blank.

What just happened?

Tan Yiwen, who was on the phone, turned at the sound. Under the clear, sunny sky, there was actually a woman standing there soaked like a drowned rat. She looked really, pitifully pathetic.

People passing by couldn’t help glancing over, and even Qin Mu, who had just come out of the fashion boutique on her way to meet Helian Hao for lunch, happened to catch the whole thing.

Hang-ge was standing by the car. When Qin Mu shot him a look, he immediately spread his hands innocently, signaling that it had nothing to do with him.

Qin Mu believed him, because he’d never do something that girly. It had to be her precious little sister.

The bookstore door was immediately shut. The clerk who had just dumped the water had already darted back in and was now clinging to the door, peeking out at the scene. She asked Qin Mingzhu anxiously, ”What do we do? What if she comes in here? I’m so scared!”

”What are you afraid of! You’ve got me!”

Qin Mingzhu lifted her chin, then went right back to watching outside.

Tan Yiwen grabbed a towel to help wipe her off. On the way back, Zhang Hongyun’s tears wouldn’t stop flowing, crying like a flower beaten by rain, pitiful enough to melt anyone’s heart.

Of course, Tan Yiwen didn’t feel that way. He was just annoyed.

The bookstore owner was obviously messing with her, but she still didn’t know anything and had just left the books at the door.

”Boss, do we still want those books?”

”Of course we do! Pick them up and send them back. Ask that supplier what kind of garbage they’ve been shipping us!”

Unreasonable, overbearing—felt like the fearless, nothing-scares-me Qin Mingzhu was back again.

After just a few days, the clerks were already seeing their boss in a whole new light.

But Qin Mingzhu felt that wasn’t enough. ”We need to find a few male clerks. Do you know any good-looking guys who also know a bit of fighting?”

They were all fresh grads, so they should know quite a few people, right? Qin Mingzhu thought to herself.

”We do know some good-looking guys, but ones who can actually fight... don’t really know many!”

The two clerks beside her happened to be classmates.

”But if it really came down to a fight, I don’t think they’d lose too badly.”

The other clerk thought about it and said.

”That works too. Just have them come by for me to take a look. Just don’t bring me any scrawny little twigs, and we’re good!”

”Boss, what exactly are you trying to do?”

The two clerks were a bit dumbfounded, but couldn’t help asking curiously.

”We’re a whole bunch of girls working here, and most of our customers are girls too. What if someone comes to make trouble?”

Qin Mingzhu was partly worried about Zhang Hongyun coming for revenge, and partly, because of Zhang Hongyun, her mind had gone further. She felt they needed staff who were basically like bodyguards. If they could be tall, handsome, and strong, even better—they’d attract customers and protect the girls.

The two clerks couldn’t help nodding, feeling like what she said actually made a lot of sense.

Honestly, the two of them had thought their boss wasn’t very reliable, like it was always her older sister doing the real work. But in this moment, they suddenly thought their boss was pretty cool.

So, hiring a few more male servers—yeah, sounds good.

”Boss, should we ask Miss Qin Mu? She might know some really impressive people!”

”Yeah! That uncle who follows her around looks super impressive!”

”This is a bookstore. Let’s not hire anyone too old!”

The moment Qin Mingzhu heard ”ask Qin Mu,” she immediately shook her head. Never mind that Qin Mu didn’t really have those kinds of connections—even if she did, Qin Mingzhu couldn’t use them. Qin Mu clearly wanted her to handle more things and not be so idle, so she had to find people herself. She had to start from these little things and make Qin Mu see her in a new light. Thinking about it, she felt a bit sulky again—Qin Mu went to have lunch with Helian Hao today and didn’t even invite her. Hmph!

——

Qin Mu went to have lunch with Helian Hao. She waited at the restaurant door until Helian Hao walked up to her, then hooked an arm through hers as they headed inside. Qin Mu noticed that Helian Hao’s lower belly was already slightly rounded, and she couldn’t help grinning with delight.

”Pretty magical, right? Look at my belly.”

”What do you mean, ’magical’? This is natural conception, okay?”

”It is magical. Otherwise, the doctors all said it was practically impossible. So how did this little thing still manage to sneak into my belly and start growing?”

Helian Hao stroked her little belly, not caring at all about other people’s stares, happily arguing with Qin Mu.
