Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 109: Chapter 101: Curing Terminal Illness? (8/10)

At the gate of Longda Machinery.

Lu Li sat in the Porsche 911 waiting for Peng Erping to come out.

At that moment, many workers were coming and going, and quite a few were pointing at him and whispering.

”Did you see Mr. Lu?”

”What’s up? You got excited seeing him handsome and driving a luxury car?”

”Pfft, you’re the one getting excited. Didn’t that huge incident in our workshop yesterday spread throughout the entire factory? This Mr. Lu is the ’superman’ we were talking about yesterday.”

”Whoa, it’s him?”

”He looks pretty skinny, how could he be so powerful?”

”Don’t judge people by their appearance, understand?”

The whispered discussions of the workers drifted into Lu Li’s ears.

He couldn’t help but frown slightly, having once again revealed his extraordinary abilities in his haste to save someone yesterday.

Now that the workers were talking about it, he feared that the special department monitoring him would learn even more.

Lu Li thought that if he continued like this, he would eventually be invited over for a chat.

As for playing the miracle doctor today,

he wasn’t too worried about being exposed.

After all, he had his medical skills to fall back on.

He pondered for a little while.

Lu Li then appeared indifferent, ”If I’m exposed, then I’m exposed. They’ve already got their eyes on me. I don’t mind being invited for a chat. Besides, now my physical condition surpasses Captain America’s comprehensively, and my powerful spiritual power allows me to be comparable to a fully armed unit. I’m not too afraid of threats anymore.”

Just as he was thinking this, Peng Erping came out.

He approached quickly, ”Mr. Lu, shall we take your car?”

”Yes, get in.” Lu Li pointed to the passenger seat, ”After we’re done with the old man’s business, I need to go back to the countryside. Taking your car might not be convenient.”

Peng Erping opened the car door, got in, and said, ”Alright.”

...

Meanwhile, on the street.

In a black Audi car.

A string of curses came through the phone speaker, ”What are you two doing? He’s done so many things these days, and you haven’t kept track of a single one? Can you do your jobs or not? If not, then get the hell out!”

This string of curses was from the middle-aged man with a square face that Lu Li had heard before.

Xiaolin, who was driving, had a grim look on his face.

Wang Yu, in the passenger seat, kept his head down.

Both remained silent.

A couple of days ago, Wang Yu used the excuse of having nowhere to live to infiltrate the ”enemy’s” camp.

Later, when Lu Li said he had something to do and went out for a while, they didn’t fail to tail him.

It’s just that Lu Li stayed in a hotel for a long time and didn’t come out.

So, Xiaolin had Wang Yu keep watch downstairs.

Meanwhile, he went to Lu Li’s rented place to install surveillance and bugging equipment.

Unexpectedly, by the time Xiaolin finished installing the equipment and returned, Wang Yu had lost track of Lu Li.

In hindsight, it was actually understandable since Wang Yu was not a professional tailing expert.

And then...

Well, the next day they heard that Lu Li had shown extraordinary power at Cultural Square, taking on ten-plus persons, and reportedly even twisted a baton into a ball.

Actually, up to this point, it wasn’t too bad.

Xiaolin and Wang Yu hadn’t received reprimands from above.

It’s just that the latest intel received yesterday was truly terrifying.

Lu Li, with his flesh and blood, withstood an impact of two to three tons.

That’s why the higher-ups were furious for not getting first-hand information.

Thus, they were currently on the phone, scolding them for not being diligent in their tailing efforts.

Over the phone, the middle-aged man’s voice continued, ”I’ll ask one last time, can you two do your jobs or not? If not, say it early!”

Xiaolin knew he couldn’t keep silent, so he took a deep breath and said, ”Director, we can do our jobs, but we’re short on manpower, and there’s always a lot of people secretly protecting him where he lives now, constantly disrupting our observation. I hope we can get more personnel assigned.”

The middle-aged man said, ”I can allocate some more manpower to you, but as for Lu Li, the strength he showed yesterday is too terrifying. Now, find him, and I will fly over immediately on this side. You bring him to meet me. I need to negotiate with him.”

Xiaolin said, ”Understood.”

The middle-aged man added, ”If he’s unwilling to come see me, if necessary, you can resort to some force!”

Xiaolin smiled wryly, ”How could I be a match for him...”

The middle-aged man interrupted, ”Can’t you use your brains? Does everything have to be a physical confrontation?”

Xiaolin’s eyes sharpened, ”Alright, I know what to do now.”

Click, the phone on the other end hung up.

Only now did Wang Yu have the opportunity to speak, ”Brother Lin, if Lu Li really refuses to go with you, what will you do to handle him?”

Xiaolin squinted his eyes, staring ahead, ”Then he’ll have to endure some hardship!”

Wang Yu’s face changed, and he didn’t respond.

...

The car continued on towards the villa in the garden.

Along the way, Lu Li felt the phone in his pocket vibrate as if a message had come in.

He was driving, so it wasn’t convenient to take it out and check.

So, he directly used his superpowers.

Using his spiritual power, he opened the phone while using his skill of ”smelling” to view the WeChat content.

To Lu Li’s surprise, the message was from Wang Yu.

Wang Yu: Old Lu, you’d better disappear for a while. I can only say this much and nothing more.

Tsk!

You still have some conscience!

Liu Li could roughly guess the meaning behind Wang Yu’s words.

It seems that the special department learned about his recent activities and might be preparing for the final revelation.

If it were before his second deep evolution, he might have been a bit worried.

However, now that his abilities have greatly increased, Liu Li frankly doesn’t mind someone tailing him every day, sitting down for a straightforward conversation is acceptable.

Soon, they arrived at the destination.

It was a garden-style villa, appearing very secluded and serene.

Liu Li couldn’t help but praise, ”The scenery here is really nice; the villa must be quite expensive, right?”

”More than just expensive,” replied Peng Erping with a sigh. ”The average price at Shanglin Garden is about ten thousand per square meter, and most importantly, there are only eighteen houses here, which have all been sold out already.”

The gate was being opened.

Liu Li expressed surprise, ”An average of ten thousand per square meter? Is it really that expensive?”

Peng Erping laughed, ”It’s worth the expense; the villas here range from a building area of over 500 to over 900 square meters. They seem similar to other detached villas, but in reality, they come with pavilions and platforms, and counting the Chinese-style courtyard, a unit is estimated to cover two to three thousand square meters. With sixty to seventy million, you can buy such a luxurious, heritage-level garden villa. Don’t you think it’s worth it?”

Obviously, with this explanation, it’s indeed not too expensive.

Liu Li had seen ordinary detached villas before, with prices exceeding four thousand per square meter.

For such heritage-level garden villas, ten thousand per square meter is very reasonable.

The two chatted as they drove inside.

They stopped in front of a villa covering approximately over 900 square meters.

There were two security guards in suits standing guard at the villa’s entrance.

Liu Li and Peng Erping got out of the car.

Peng Erping went over to communicate.

The two security guards scanned them with instruments.

Once confirming they weren’t carrying dangerous items, one of them then led Liu Li and Peng Erping inside the villa.

Upon stepping inside the courtyard,

Liu Li saw a dozen people waiting.

There were men and women, old and young.

The majority were middle-aged.

Seeing such a grand welcome from the other party, he felt quite respected.

However, Liu Li was puzzled; he and Peng Erping had clearly entered, and the group standing saw them but was almost entirely unmoved.

Only a young man in his thirties turned his head, quickly wore a smile, and stepped forward.

The young man greeted, ”Old Peng, there you are.”

Peng Erping became somewhat subservient, responding, ”Mr. Liu, sorry to keep you waiting.”

Mr. Liu looked around, concerned, asking, ”Where’s the divine doctor?”

Peng Erping pointed at Liu Li, saying, ”He’s the divine doctor I mentioned.”

Mr. Liu paused, seemingly incredulous that Liu Li, so young, was being called a divine doctor by Peng Erping.

Despite the flicker of skepticism in his eyes, his good personal etiquette made him quickly conceal it.

Mr. Liu had a face full of smiles, extending his hand, ”Hello, sir. I’m Liu Peinan. Very pleased to meet you. How should I address you?”

Liu Li shook his hand, ”Liu Li, you can call me Xiaolu.”

Liu Peinan shook his hand, ”I wouldn’t dare, I’ll call you Dr. Lu instead.”

Liu Li agreed, ”Okay.”

Peng Erping seemed to have a good relationship with Liu Peinan, pointing at the group ahead and asking, ”Mr. Liu, why so many people?”

Liu Peinan glanced back, lowered his voice, and said, ”Today a world-class renowned doctor will come to treat my grandfather, so my dad, uncle, and younger uncle all came over.”

Oh!

So these people aren’t waiting for me!

Liu Li initially thought that Liu Peinan’s family had heard from Peng Erping about his ”excellent medical skills,” hence waiting early here.

Turns out, they were waiting for the world-class renowned doctor.

However, he didn’t mind, as he was here just to have a look and couldn’t guarantee anything.

Peng Erping couldn’t help but frown, ”You invited a renowned doctor; will you still let Mr. Lu check the old man’s legs?”

Liu Peinan replied, ”Of course, Dr. Lu came here out of a busy schedule. I’m truly grateful and wouldn’t miss the chance.”

With that, he paused and turned to Liu Li, gesturing inside, ”Dr. Lu, let’s go in now to check on the old man. Can you see if the symptoms can be alleviated?”

Liu Li nodded, ”Alright, let’s go in and have a look.”

Liu Peinan led the way, introducing the old man’s condition, ”My grandfather suffers from chronic infectious arthritis; he’s too old for joint replacement surgery. For the past few years, he’s been on conservative treatment, initially relieving the pain, but over time, it’s ineffective, and my grandfather is often in unbearable pain. Now, his legs can’t move at all. Previously, we invited renowned doctors who said the outlook wasn’t very optimistic; it’s basically incurable...”

Liu Li understood the implied meaning, suggesting possible complications and even death.

To be honest, if it were other rheumatic diseases, he wouldn’t be confident.

Some rheumatic diseases are aseptic inflammations.

Liu Li hadn’t tested if energy rays could treat aseptic inflammations.

Yet, for chronic infectious arthritis, his confidence in treatment greatly increased.

Chronic infectious arthritis is typically caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses leading to inflammatory lesions in the synovial membrane, joints, and surrounding tissues.

Liu Li had tested on Liu Kexin last night; energy rays could sterilize, and they could enhance the body’s self-healing ability.

Therefore, he figured he had a good chance of curing the old man today.

Yes, not just alleviating pain, but curing the old man’s illness.

It’s known rheumatism is deemed ”incurable,” only manageable with medication.

If he could cure the old man, it might cause quite a stir.

Of course, this was Liu Li’s own speculation; he wasn’t sure of achieving it.

Hence, he didn’t boast before even seeing the patient.

If failure ensued, the impact might not be favorable.

”Let’s wait until seeing the old man,” Liu Li thought secretly, ”It’s best not to cure them instantly, it could be too shocking. Better to take it slow later.”
