Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 136: Chapter 127: Another Newly Discovered Superpower

Developed night vision capabilities?

Lu Li wasn’t sure, after all, his vision was too strong.

In such a dimly lit place, it was only natural to see Liu Kexin’s attire clearly.

He decided to continue testing, ”Come in and sit for a while.”

Liu Kexin casually turned on the light, ”What do you want me to sit for?”

Lu Li stood up and chuckled, ”Nothing much, just to chat with you.”

Saying this, he brought over a chair for her to sit by the bed.

Liu Kexin hesitated but eventually sat down, ”Haven’t seen you in a few days, did you go on a trip?”

”Went to Shanghai to get a visa, and got busy with some other things.”

As Lu Li spoke, he walked to the door, casually closing it and simultaneously reached out to turn off the light.

Liu Kexin tensed up suddenly, springing to her feet with a warning in her voice, ”Lu Li, don’t do anything rash, Aunt Huang is downstairs today.”

Closing the door and turning off the light, anyone would have wild thoughts.

Lu Li understood her feelings.

He reassured her, ”Don’t worry, I’m just doing a small experiment, I won’t do anything bad to you.”

Liu Kexin was a bit skeptical, ”Last time in my bedroom you said the same, and then...”

”Relax,” Lu Li continued to soothe her, ”I really won’t do anything to you, just sit down first.”

He said as he walked toward the window.

Liu Kexin didn’t sit down, still standing as she asked, ”Experiment? What experiment?”

Lu Li reached out and pulled the curtains up, ”Just a small...”

Before he finished his sentence, Liu Kexin, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, spoke nervously, ”What are you trying to do pulling the curtains? Lu Li, don’t scare me like this, I... I’m really going to leave.”

She said this.

But in reality, she didn’t move at all from where she stood.

Yeah, his actions indeed seemed suspicious.

At this moment, the room was completely dark, you could almost say you couldn’t see your fingers.

Lu Li turned around, observing if he could see Liu Kexin’s expression in such an environment, while still reassuring her, ”I really didn’t intend to do anything, could you trust me a little?”

Liu Kexin rolled her eyes, ”The trust in you was used up in my bedroom a few days ago.”

Even though it was terrifyingly dark at that moment, he could clearly see Liu Kexin’s subtle eye-rolling expression just like in daylight!

Furthermore, Lu Li could even see the tension in Liu Kexin’s facial muscles, the shiny lip gloss, and the light blush on her cheeks!

No different from watching with the light on!

Lu Li suddenly confirmed that his morphing technique indeed also developed night vision abilities!

His mind became active immediately, pondering, ”Since I developed night vision capabilities incidentally, there might be others, like... hearing?”

How exactly to test this?

Lu Li had previously been able to hear some ultrasound and infrasound, his hearing was probably equivalent to that of a pigeon back then.

Now, if he wanted to test his hearing, it seemed there was no way to test directly, as it required professional equipment.

Just as Lu Li thought to speak to reassure Liu Kexin.

Suddenly, he heard a strange sound.

This sound seemed to come from Liu Kexin’s bag.

The next moment, the phone rang with ”ring ring ring”.

Liu Kexin groped to unzip, ”Let me take a call first.”

Oh!

That strange sound earlier turned out to be the signal’s vibration when a call came in.

Lu Li couldn’t help but become interested.

He remembered that mobile phone signals are electromagnetic waves.

That means his hearing might be able to hear electromagnetic waves?

Under normal circumstances, human ears can sense mechanical vibrations, so they can hear.

Electromagnetic waves are not ”vibrations” but rather electromagnetic fields, so naturally, they can’t be heard.

Yet now he could hear a sound before the phone started ringing, clearly hearing the electromagnetic waves.

This discovery made Lu Li quite excited, being able to hear electromagnetic waves, if he could decode the content of the electromagnetic waves with his spiritual power, then in front of him, basically no one could hide secrets anymore!

But how to decode the content of electromagnetic waves using spiritual power, he temporarily couldn’t think of a way.

Lu Li thought as he quietly listened to Liu Kexin’s phone conversation, alongside the speaking content and electromagnetic wave frequency fluctuations.

Liu Kexin put the phone to her ear, ”Hello, I’m Liu Kexin, who is this?”

On the other end came a slightly familiar male voice, which made Lu Li surprised.

It was the security Sun Demin, who he had met while gambling stones at Cultural Square before, a partner of Brother Gu’s security company.

Sun Demin’s voice seemed tense, carrying a hint of anger and frustration, ”Miss Liu, hello, I’m Sun Demin, the partner with Brother Gu running the security company. Do you still remember me?”

Liu Kexin looked surprised, ”I have some impression, how did you get my number?”

Sun Demin said with a bitter smile, ”I don’t have time to explain to you in detail right now. Brother Gu, Miss Chen Man Ni, her husband, and our group have encountered some trouble in Myanmar. Miss Chen asked me to call you because I urgently need to borrow some money from you.”

Lu Li was puzzled. Why didn’t Chen Man Ni call to borrow money herself, and instead asked Sun Demin to borrow from Liu Kexin?

Liu Kexin had the same question, ”Why didn’t she call me?”

Sun Demin replied helplessly, ”Our group was kidnapped by local bandits, and I was the only one who managed to escape. Before I escaped, Miss Chen instructed me to contact you for help as soon as possible. At first, I didn’t intend to contact you. I tried negotiating with the bandits through local contacts, but they demanded a ransom of ten million. Where could I possibly get that kind of money on short notice? With no other options, I called you for help as Miss Chen suggested. I trust that when Miss Chen is released, she will repay you. If she doesn’t, I’ll do whatever it takes to pay you back once I return.”

Lu Li used his spiritual power to check, and indeed, the incoming call on Liu Kexin’s phone was from Myanmar.

Liu Kexin decisively said, ”Okay, send me the account number, and I’ll arrange for a transfer shortly.”

Sun Demin was overwhelmed with gratitude, ”Thank you! Thank you, Miss Liu!”

Liu Kexin acknowledged curtly, then hung up and immediately dialed Chen Man Ni’s phone number to confirm it couldn’t be reached, and then she tried another number.

Lu Li guessed the other number was Chen Man Ni’s husband’s. It was clear that although Liu Kexin agreed to lend the money, she wasn’t completely naive and was trying to gather information right away.

Unfortunately, the other number was also unreachable.

However, Liu Kexin didn’t give up and proceeded to call a third number.

This time, it got through.

Liu Kexin asked directly, ”Aunt, do you know where Man Ni went? I haven’t been able to reach her phone at all.”

A woman’s voice replied on the other end, ”Miss Chen and Mr. Zhen went to Myanmar with Mr. Gu several days ago. Do you need something from her, Miss Liu?”

Liu Kexin replied, ”Oh, nothing. I just haven’t heard from her for a few days and was missing her.”

After some small talk, she hung up the call and dialed another number to arrange a transfer of ten million to the designated account.

Lu Li stood by without saying a word, constantly using his hearing and spiritual power to distinguish electromagnetic waves.

He discovered that when Liu Kexin spoke different words, the length and frequency of the electromagnetic waves varied.

Overall, as long as he remembered the patterns of length and frequency, he could roughly analyze the content.

Although he couldn’t fully decipher the content of the electromagnetic waves yet, this discovery made Lu Li realize that he could indeed ”decode” the content by familiarizing himself with the patterns.

Soon, Liu Kexin finished her tasks.

Lu Li, pretending to know nothing, asked, ”What happened?”

Liu Kexin seemed a bit worried and sat down on a chair, frowning, ”Man Ni might have been kidnapped in Myanmar, but it’s nothing serious. Once the kidnappers get the money, they should release her immediately.”

He recalled he owed Chen Man Ni a favor.

Last time, she helped introduce Brother Gu, and he owed her a small favor.

If Chen Man Ni was really in trouble, Lu Li wouldn’t mind stepping in to help.

On one hand, it would repay the favor.

On the other, it would be an opportunity to test his combat abilities.

But for now, it seemed he didn’t need to do anything.

The kidnappers were after money, and they wouldn’t harm anyone once they had it.

Lu Li nodded and comforted, ”Don’t worry too much. I’m sure Miss Chen will be okay.”

Liu Kexin appeared very calm, ”That’s what I think too.”

Although she seemed calm on the surface, Lu Li’s keen hearing could detect her heart racing.

Clearly, she was very concerned.

Lu Li walked over to her side, crouched down, held her hand, and gently patted the back of it, ”You really don’t need to worry. If they take the money but don’t release her, I’ll go there myself and make sure she’s rescued.”

Liu Kexin, possibly too worried, didn’t notice her hand being held by Lu Li.

She still pretended to be nonchalant, ”I’m not worried, and besides, it’s dangerous over there in Myanmar. I don’t want you to take risks. If something really happens... I should be able to figure out a way.”

To be honest, holding her hand, Lu Li could feel it trembling.

It was apparent that Liu Kexin genuinely cared about Chen Man Ni.

Lu Li jokingly tried to lighten the mood, ”I didn’t realize you were so emotional, when you usually act so stiff!”

Liu Kexin gave him a sidelong glance, ”Who’s stiff all the time? Can’t you say something nice... Hey, why are you holding my hand?”

Lu Li instinctively wanted to let go, but suddenly recalled the scene from her bedroom a few days ago, and mischievously thought, ”I’m just comforting you, not taking advantage.”

Liu Kexin struggled with her hand, ”You’ve comforted enough now, can you let go?”

Lu Li still didn’t let go, looking into her eyes in the dark and blinking, ”I could let go, but isn’t this the first time I’m holding your hand? Can I hold it a little longer?”

Liu Kexin suddenly tensed up, her tone turning a bit frustrated, ”I knew it! You’re up to no good with the door and curtains closed!”

Lu Li continued to ask, ”How about I just hold your hand for a while?”

”No way, you’ll definitely say you want to hug me next, who knows what’s on your mind.” Liu Kexin was very rational, ”I won’t be fooled again.”

Lu Li bargained, ”Trust me one more time, okay? I’ll just hold your hand for five minutes, and once five minutes are up, I promise I’ll let go. Will you agree to that?”

Liu Kexin didn’t feel as tense.

She bargained too, ”Two minutes, no more.”

Huh?

She actually allowed me to hold her hand?

Lu Li had been testing her response.

He didn’t expect she wasn’t against him holding her hand.

This revelation brightened his eyes, and he wondered if he should make another move to take their relationship further.
