Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 117: Chapter 109: Soul

In the room.

Lu Li had no time to appreciate the wonders of this room that cost over three thousand a night.

His face was pale as gold paper. Upon entering, he felt dizzy and lightheaded, his body losing strength and pitching forward.

”Brother Lu! Brother Lu!” Blazing Babe was shocked and quickly rushed forward to support Lu Li’s neck with her uninjured hand. ”What’s wrong with you?”

Lu Li was severely dizzy. ”I feel a bit unwell.”

Blazing Babe looked anxious. ”You can’t even walk without falling over, how’s that ’a bit unwell’? No way, I’m taking you to the hospital for a check-up.”

As she spoke, she tried to help Lu Li up from the ground with some force.

Lu Li struggled to stand, using his hand to steady himself against the wall.

He knew his body was fine.

The reason he was so ”fragile”

was because of the ”damage to his spirit.”

He had too many secrets within him.

Who knew how much would be exposed if he went for scans and tests at the hospital?

If he were in peak condition, he naturally wouldn’t worry about any mishaps.

But now, he was in a weakened state.

If anyone really had intentions against him, it would be very troublesome.

Lu Li took a deep breath and said firmly, ”I can’t go to the hospital!”

Blazing Babe was worried sick. ”But as you are now...”

Lu Li forcibly endured the discomfort that came from his soul.

He turned his head slightly, looking at the other with an extremely serious gaze. ”Yajing, listen to me!”

Being a mature woman, Blazing Babe realized something immediately.

She nodded slightly in response. ”Alright, you rest for a while. Just call if you need anything. I’ll be right here.”

Lu Li felt so uncomfortable that he didn’t want to speak.

He forced himself to the bedside.

Lu Li suddenly collapsed face-first onto the bed.

Blazing Babe looked at him with a complex expression.

She wanted to ask if Lu Li needed some hot water or food.

But seeing him in this state, she knew it wasn’t the time to speak.

After some thought, Blazing Babe decided not to say anything.

She set her small bag down first.

Then she started to boil water and ordered takeout on her phone.

If Lu Li needed water or food later, she could serve him promptly.

Resting on the bed, Lu Li naturally could sense every movement.

He knew Blazing Babe was worried about him.

Lu Li felt quite grateful in his heart.

But now the feeling of ”damage to his spirit” was becoming more intense.

He really had no mind for other matters.

That feeling of ”damage to his spirit” truly made him extremely uncomfortable.

Lu Li didn’t know how to describe his exact condition right now.

He only knew that the feeling of his ”soul” being weary and trembling was actually unrelated to his physical body.

This was the most troublesome part.

If there were any physical discomfort, he could still use abilities like x-ray vision or microscopic vision to check.

”Soul”?

This is something modern medicine cannot detect!

Modern neuroscience studies show that human consciousness and thinking are produced by neuronal activities in the brain, which to some extent has replaced the past ”soul theory.”

However, some scientists claim through experimental research to prove the existence of the soul.

For instance, the British doctor Sam Pamer conducted experiments that demonstrated the soul’s existence.

He believed that if a patient’s soul could float during a near-death experience, they could see the doctors rescuing their body and observe the surrounding objects.

Therefore, Sam conducted an experiment.

He placed a board below the ceiling with small objects on it.

Hmm, only he knew what they were.

If souls truly existed, people should be able to see these small objects.

If the resuscitated patients could say what the small objects were, it could prove the soul’s existence.

Sam conducted research on over a hundred critically ill patients and found that seven resuscitated patients could describe the scenes they saw when their souls were out of body, especially the small objects on the board, and they got it all right.

This was a gratifying phenomenon; Sam’s experiment succeeded.

Therefore, Sam publicly announced the soul’s true existence.

However, these experiments were not widely recognized.

Lu Li never believed in the soul’s existence before.

But ever since his genetic unlocking.

With the appearance of ”Little Golden Man” inside him.

He gradually began to believe that the soul might truly exist.

Therefore, when ”damage to his spirit” became unmanageable, Lu Li knew his trouble had grown.

”If there’s a problem with my body, even if I don’t understand what I observe, I can still leverage modern medicine. But if there’s a problem with the soul, whom should I turn to to find out the situation?”

While enduring the discomfort, Lu Li pondered the solution.

Suddenly, his immensely powerful hearing picked up Blazing Babe’s soft prayers coming from the bathroom.

”Dear Bodhisattva, please protect Brother Lu. Don’t let anything happen to him.”

”As long as Bodhisattva can protect Brother Lu, I will definitely go to the temple to fulfill my vow and burn a few more incense sticks.”

Her deep concern in her tone made Lu Li feel warm inside.

But because he heard Blazing Babe’s soft prayers, Lu Li suddenly thought of something.

Souls are an impractical existence for modern science.

However, religions have always believed in the existence of souls.

Moreover, there are many studies recorded in their scriptures.

Lu Li contemplated if he should seek out a religion to understand what state he was in?

Though he wasn’t sure if it would work, he felt it was the only way at present that he could try.

Of course, definitely not now.

He was too uncomfortable, too tired. He hadn’t been lying there for long before he drifted into a drowsy sleep.

...

In the dream.

Lu Li once again saw the Little Golden Man, as always.

In the past, the Little Golden Man shone brilliantly, radiating a strong glow all over.

At this moment, he saw the Little Golden Man looking haggard and dim.

It seemed as if it might crumble at any moment.

The Little Golden Man was in such a dire condition that it couldn’t mobilize energy rays as before.

Lu Li could clearly sense fatigue and a kind of painful injury from the Little Golden Man.

After observing this, he vaguely understood that he might really have a ”soul” problem.

...

The next day, he woke up in the morning.

Perhaps because he had stopped absorbing energy from the outside world yesterday, the energy stored within him was exhausted, he stopped developing transformation techniques and even halted evolution, allowing his soul to catch a breath.

As soon as Lu Li opened his eyes, he felt much more comfortable.

He discovered that at some point his outer clothes and pants had been removed, and he was tucked into bed.

There’s no need to guess, it must have been Flame Baby helping him.

Lu Li turned his head to look.

He saw Flame Baby sleeping soundly by the bedside.

It seemed she had stayed by his side all night.

The dress was still the same one from yesterday.

It appeared she didn’t even remove her clothes.

Besides his mother, this was the first time a woman had cared for him to such an extent.

Lu Li was deeply touched.

He reached out to pat her shoulder, ”Yajing? Yajing?”

Flame Baby was awakened and quickly raised her head.

She tried to open her seemingly sleepy eyes wide, exclaiming with delight, ”Lu Li, you’re awake?”

Lu Li nodded and said, ”You stayed here all night?”

Speaking of this, Flame Baby’s eyes revealed a hint of worry, ”Yes, I was afraid something would happen to you, so I didn’t dare to leave for a moment. Are you feeling better now?”

Lu Li did not know how to thank her.

He gently nodded and said, ”Thank you, I feel much better.”

Flame Baby sighed in relief, smiled and said, ”It’s good that you’re okay. Are you hungry? I’ll make you something to eat.”

Even though your arm is still fractured!

It’s one thing to keep watch all night.

And upon seeing me awake, your first concern is whether I’m hungry?

Lu Li felt deeply moved, ”I’m not hungry, are you?”

Flame Baby shook her head and said, ”Just woke up, not hungry yet.”

Lu Li moved to the south a bit, reached out and patted the quilt beside him, ”You didn’t rest well all night, come up and sleep for a while, don’t worry, I won’t do anything bad.”

Flame Baby hesitated for a moment.

Perhaps seeing Lu Li’s pure gaze.

She finally nodded lightly with an ”Mm” and then climbed into the bed, closed her eyes, and rested.

Lu Li watched her for a while and soon heard her smooth breathing.

Clearly, she had fallen asleep.

Sigh, she watched over me all night.

No wonder she didn’t rest well.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t fall asleep so quickly.

Lu Li looked at her with compassion.

He started to consider his own issues.

Indeed, after a night’s rest, he felt much better.

That is to say, resting can allow his ”soul” to recover.

According to the characteristic of recovery through rest, it seems unnecessary to think too much.

But Lu Li didn’t think that way, ”I am very sure that constantly developing new superpowers led the Little Golden Man to overwork, causing all these symptoms. This issue doesn’t seem very serious at present, as long as I sleep for a while, I can recover, but in reality, it’s not so simple. The transformation technique I am currently developing might be very powerful, and thus its structure might be very complex, leading to the fatigue of the Little Golden Man. But this is only the initial stage, I believe that in the future, even more complex superpowers will be developed. If this problem isn’t resolved, won’t I suddenly die one day?”

Therefore, the problem must be solved!

He had already thought about it last night.

Consulting with the religious sector for some understanding.

While thinking, Lu Li reached for his phone.

Searched for a Daoist temple or Buddhist temple in Shanghai that might be effective.

Or, a Daoist priest or monk whose ”Cultivation Realm” might be high.

”Perhaps the research and theory of religion on the soul may not always be correct, but it can still serve as a reference.”

Lu Li involuntarily thought back to the young blogger on Douyin before, the information introduced by him wasn’t entirely correct, but he still used it as a reference, right?

He searched on his phone.

Soon, many pieces of information popped up on the page.

Lu Li looked for a short while.

He truly found a Daoist priest with a great reputation and possibly an exalted realm.

This Daoist priest was named Chen Liansheng.

He was said to be a grandmaster of the Zhengyi Sect.

A spiritual leader in the Daoism community in Shanghai.

Unfortunately, this Daoist priest had already ascended in 2008.

”Daoist Chen also had two disciples, who also seem to be not in Shanghai.”

Lu Li looked at the information he had searched, ”However, he has a successor who isn’t considered a disciple, currently the abbot of Modu City God Temple.”

This abbot is named Zhen Hongyi.

It is said that he stayed by Daoist Chen’s side for over twenty years.

And after Daoist Chen ascended, Daoist Zhen assumed the position of abbot at the City God Temple.

Lu Li pondered privately, Daoist Zhen stayed beside Daoist Chen for more than twenty years, he must have been influenced heavily, and his Daoist teachings must be profound.

Perhaps I can seek advice from Daoist Zhen to inquire about my own situation and gain some insights for reference.

But there is now a problem.

Daoist Zhen, as the abbot of Modu City God Temple.

Isn’t someone you can meet just anytime you wish.

How can I meet Daoist Zhen and seek his guidance?

Lu Li thought he needed to use his brain or perhaps leverage some connections.
