Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 116: Chapter 108: You Really Aren’t Afraid I’ll Eat You Up

Waited for about three minutes.

A Blaze Babe with one hand in a cast quickly walked over.

Perhaps it was inconvenient for her to dress up because of her injured hand.

Nathan noticed that she was wearing a relatively simple white dress today.

Even though she didn’t look as charming as usual, she still looked quite pretty in her simple attire.

Blaze Babe smiled and greeted, ”Brother Lu.”

Nathan opened the car door for her, ”Yajing, have you had lunch yet?”

Yeah, the other person is Li Yajing.

Nathan knew this when he represented the company in signing a contract with her.

Additionally, after so many days of interaction, their relationship had gotten closer, and their conversations became more casual.

Blaze Babe sat in the passenger seat, reaching out to close the door while saying, ”It’s still a bit early, I’m not very hungry yet.”

Nathan said, ”Alright, I need to go to the countryside to pick up some things, how about having lunch at my place?”

Blaze Babe immediately said, ”Sure, but let’s stop by a store first; it’s not appropriate to visit your uncle and aunt empty-handed for the first time.”

Nathan chuckled, ”What gifts? Just have lunch and leave; it’s not like you’re meeting my girlfriend.”

Blaze Babe insisted, ”No way, no way, it’s impolite to visit for the first time without bringing gifts.”

Nathan had no choice but to agree, ”Alright, but let’s not buy anything too expensive.”

Blaze Babe quickly nodded, ”Okay, I’ll follow your lead.”

Then, they went to a nearby mall for a stroll.

Blaze Babe bought a whole bunch of stuff.

Brand-name clothes and pants.

Health supplements and the like.

After the whole operation, it’s estimated that she spent several thousand yuan.

Nathan was startled by her actions, thinking, is this a first-time visit or is she visiting as my wife?

He quickly stopped her, then drove toward the countryside.

...

Several dozen kilometers; not too far but not too close either.

After about an hour’s journey, Nathan drove back to his home.

As soon as he and Blaze Babe got out of the car, they saw a group of neighbors sitting inside chatting.

Perhaps they heard the noise.

In an instant, the eyes of seven or eight aunts and uncles locked on them.

”Oh my!”

”Xiaoli has bought such a nice car?”

”Is this his girlfriend? Wow, she’s really pretty.”

”Old Lu mentioned that Xiaoli became a deputy department manager at the company, and it seems it’s true.”

”Xiaoli is doing so well; his son is over thirty and still just fishes and plays games every day, making five or six thousand a month and not willing to find a girlfriend—almost drove me mad.”

The aunts and uncles chatted away.

Nathan already knew his parents had bragged about him in the village, so he wasn’t surprised.

However, Blaze Babe didn’t expect so many people in Nathan’s family, and she became a little reserved.

His parents immediately noticed their son had brought his ”girlfriend” back.

His parents hurried to greet them at the door.

His mom reached out and held Blaze Babe’s uninjured left hand warmly, ”Dear girl, have you eaten? Come on, I just cooked a table full of dishes, come in and have some.”

Blaze Babe obediently said, ”Auntie.”

Then she looked at Nathan’s dad, ”Uncle.”

His dad beamed, ”Hello, hello, what’s your name?”

Their parents were too happy; they directly left Nathan alone.

Blaze Babe sincerely said, ”My name is Li Yajing, you can just call me Xiaoli.”

”Jingjing!” His mom, with high mental caliber, treated her as a ”daughter-in-law,” with affectionate nicknaming, ”Let’s go inside and have lunch.”

His dad took the gifts from Nathan’s hands and politely said, ”Oh, Jingjing, you could’ve just come, no need to bring gifts.”

The three of them chatted while walking inside.

Nathan: ”...”

Oh my!

Mom, Dad, are you forgetting about me?

He walked in alone with a look of speechless resignation.

Then, as soon as he sat down at the dining table, seven or eight aunts on the side greeted him.

Aunt Wu asked, ”Hey, Xiaoli, your mom told me you became a deputy department manager at the company.”

Nathan didn’t mention he had resigned.

After all, his parents had already bragged about him.

If he said he had resigned, his parents would lose face.

He vaguely replied, ”Well, sort of.”

Aunt Zhang immediately responded with admiration, ”You’re so promising. You graduated from school not long ago and became a deputy manager, amazing.”

Aunt Zhu chimed in, ”That’s right, Xiaoli is really doing well. And he bought such a nice car; it must have cost two or three hundred thousand, right?”

Yeah, they didn’t recognize the Porsche.

Nathan didn’t boast to the neighbors and just smiled, ”About that much.”

”Wow, you bought a car for two or three hundred thousand,” Nanny Xu, with envious red eyes, commented, ”and he’s got such a beautiful girlfriend, really making a name for himself. Look at Xiaoli, then look at my son; he’s older than Xiaoli with no partner, almost driving me crazy.”

And then...

Well, during the meal, Nathan and Blaze Babe were praised continuously by the neighbors.

Originally, Nathan wanted to explain to his parents that Blaze Babe wasn’t his girlfriend.

But with so many neighbors here, each one praising them non-stop, he didn’t feel it was appropriate to deny it on the spot.

Blaze Babe was also accommodating, smiling and nodding throughout, showing politeness and grace.

Finally, when the meal was over.

His dad cleaned up the dishes.

His mom was busy chatting with Blaze Babe.

As for the neighbors, they dispersed shortly after.

Nathan asked his mom and went to the bedroom on the east side to retrieve his passport and new ID from the drawer.

Seeing the passport in hand.

He was afraid of delaying the visa to Ugly Country.

Nathan directly stood in the bedroom and messaged the foreigner.

Nathan: Mr. William, I’ve got my passport, when can I schedule to go to the consulate for the visa?

William was one of the foreigners sent to Huaxia for the Nathan Hot Dog Challenge.

While messaging, Nathan felt his ”spirit” discomfort intensified, his head slightly aching.

He couldn’t help but frown, ”No, it seems this time the situation might be more intense than before.”

Nathan dared not gamble with his life safety.

After some thought, he disabled the superpower that absorbed free energy from the air through his skin and pores.

Nathan believed cutting off the energy supply would temporarily halt the evolution, only resuming during sleep.

Hopefully, this would alleviate the discomfort somewhat.

Although the superpower of absorbing free energy was disabled, a considerable amount of previously accumulated energy still continued within him.

The development of the change technique is still ongoing.

”It should stop automatically when the energy runs out.”

Lu Li wasn’t too worried.

By now, it’s about eleven or twelve at night in the Ugly Country.

He didn’t expect William to get back to him so quickly.

Who would have thought, the next moment, a call came in.

Judging by the area code, it was coming from New York in the Ugly Country.

No need to guess; it had to be William.

Lu Li answered, greeting in awkward English, ”Hello, Mr. William.”

William probably knew Lu Li wasn’t good at English, so he spoke very slowly, ”Mr. Lu Li, I’ll have someone notify the Modu Consulate. Can you go on Monday to get your visa?”

Generally, getting a visa requires an appointment.

William’s words suggested he might be using some connections to expedite the process.

Lu Li knew what was up and said, ”Okay.”

William continued, still speaking slowly, ”Once you’ve completed your visa, let me know. I’ll prepare the round-trip tickets for you and book the hotel. You can come directly then.”

Lu Li responded, ”Sure.”

Then William said goodbye and hung up.

Lu Li pondered as he held his phone.

He had just made ten million.

There was no rush to buy a villa immediately.

He might even accept the Liu Family’s ”investment.”

And directly take that Chinese courtyard villa.

Given this, he had a large sum of money available.

He thought that a supercar might be flashy.

But it’s not very practical.

Should he buy another nice car?

Previously, at Longda Machinery, to save Old Gao’s life,

When he received that box, he burst out of a set of clothes.

And with the weather getting hotter.

It seemed like a good time to get more gear.

Okay!

Then today, he’ll go to Shanghai.

Stay there for a night first.

Tomorrow, he’ll spend well on Sunday.

Lu Li decided to spend lavishly.

Aim to spend a good amount of money.

To enrich his wardrobe a bit.

After all, wearing the same few sets of clothes doesn’t seem right.

Thinking this, he went outside.

His mom seemed to have gone upstairs to get something, and his dad was washing dishes.

At this moment, Yajing was sitting alone at the dining table playing on her phone.

Lu Li approached and said, ”Yajing, I’m heading to Shanghai later, and I’ll probably be back by the afternoon the day after tomorrow. Shall I drop you back at the hotel first?”

Yajing widened her eyes and asked, ”Are you going to Shanghai for something?”

Lu Li sat next to her, ”I have to get a visa on Monday.”

Yajing was puzzled, ”So you’re going there today? Isn’t tomorrow Sunday?”

Lu Li explained, ”The visa is on Monday, but I’m planning to buy a car in Shanghai tomorrow, and maybe get some clothes as well.”

When Yajing heard it wasn’t for official business, she immediately put on a pitiful expression, ”Brother Lu, I’ve been cooped up in the hotel for days. Could you take me to Shanghai for a day of fun, please?”

Since knowing last time that she was a bad woman but not dirty, Lu Li indeed had some thoughts about her.

Seeing the chance to develop feelings, he didn’t refuse, ”Alright, then I’ll accompany you to the hotel to pick up a few changes of clothes, and then we’ll head straight to Shanghai.”

Yajing was overjoyed, ”Great, you’re the best.”

Waited until his mom came down.

Lu Li explained the situation to his parents, prepping to leave with Yajing.

Upon learning the situation, his parents promptly gave a big red envelope to Yajing.

Yes, it’s a custom.

When a son brings a girlfriend home, they give a red envelope.

Although Yajing wasn’t his girlfriend, she had bought so many things to visit, so Lu Li let his parents give her the big red envelope without explaining.

...

Leaving the countryside.

They returned to Su City to pack a few clothes before heading to Shanghai.

”Brother Lu, why do you look a bit pale?”

”Maybe I didn’t sleep well, but I’m fine.”

”Oh, if you don’t feel well, tell me, and we’ll go to the hospital.”

”Yeah, I know. Thank you for your concern.”

During the journey, since the energy hadn’t run out and the development of the change technique was ongoing, Lu Li felt increasingly drained, and his face was a bit pale.

In the end, by the time they arrived in Shanghai, it was already around four or five in the afternoon.

Lu Li and Yajing discussed, deciding to get the room first and then head to a restaurant to eat.

They searched on Dazhong Dianping.

Finally, they decided to stay at a well-rated five-star hotel near Jinling Road.

Because of the short distance,

They didn’t book online.

They went there directly.

The Bund Hotel.

In the lobby.

During the check-in process.

Due to feeling increasingly unwell, Lu Li let Yajing handle the room booking.

Yajing spoke to the front desk, ”Two king bed rooms.”

The female receptionist smiled and said, ”I’m sorry, sir, there’s only one room left.”

Yajing frowned and asked, ”Is it a double bed room?”

The female receptionist continued to smile, ”No, it’s a magnificent Bund view king room.”

Yajing hesitated for a moment, then turned and said, ”Brother Lu, should we check another hotel?”

Lu Li’s forehead was covered in tiny beads of sweat, he seemed quite alarmed.

He shook his head, ”I’m feeling unwell. Let’s just stay here. Worst case, you take the bed, I’ll crash on the floor.”

Perhaps seeing how unwell he was, Yajing almost immediately said, ”Okay, we’ll stay here. I’ll take the floor, and you can have the bed.”

Huh?

She really agreed to share a room with me?

Lu Li thought to himself, she really isn’t afraid I’ll make a move on her.
