Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 45: Chapter 43: Beauty in the Night Rain

Driving to Labor Road.

The distance is a bit far, and it’s raining outside, it took more than twenty minutes to get there.

Lu Li sat in the car making a phone call, ”President Liu, I’m at the entrance of the community, come out.”

Liu Kexin responded with a hum, ”I’m putting on makeup, please wait a moment.”

It’s normal for women to wear makeup before going out.

Lu Li didn’t think much of it.

After hanging up the phone, he sat in the car browsing TikTok.

He waited for about ten minutes.

He was a bit impatient and lifted his head to see if she had come out.

As soon as he looked up, Lu Li saw Liu Kexin coming out of the gate.

Perhaps due to the hazy effect of the lights and rain, Liu Kexin looked stunning tonight.

She was holding a small floral umbrella, wearing a pure white long dress, with beige high heels stepping gracefully through the splashing water.

That appearance, like a lotus emerging from the water!

Most importantly, her makeup was quite heavy tonight, looking very exquisite.

At first glance, Lu Li observed that her snow-white skin, illuminated by the streetlights, appeared as pure as crystal. The blush on her cheeks was applied just right, like rosy clouds, and the classic bright red lipstick on her lips did not seem vulgar. On the contrary, it looked so luscious, it made one feel an irresistible urge to hold and kiss her fiercely.

Beautiful!

Utterly indescribably beautiful!

He wasn’t unfamiliar with beauties; after all, with the internet so advanced nowadays, there are plenty of beauties on TikTok.

But Lu Li had never encountered a woman whose beauty seemed to reach into his soul like Liu Kexin.

After a while.

Liu Kexin approached, reaching out to open the passenger door.

Half of her body sat in first, closing her umbrella as she said, ”The rain is quite heavy tonight, I almost didn’t want to go out.”

A pleasant perfume scent wafted over.

Not too strong, just right.

With a hint of gentian scent.

Her action was very normal originally.

Except she was wearing a dress.

As soon as she sat half in, her left leg, like white jade, was exposed to the air.

Lu Li kept staring, and immediately noticed it, he couldn’t help sneaking a few more glances.

Right at this moment, Liu Kexin put away the umbrella, closed the car door, and turned to look, ”Where shall we dine?”

”Ah? Oh.” Lu Li quickly withdrew his gaze, pretending to be serious, ”It’s been a while since I’ve had skewers, how about we go to Front View Street? There’s a good skewer place there.”

”Skewers?” Liu Kexin seemed a bit confused, ”What’s that?”

She seemed to have never had skewers before.

Lu Li started the car, explaining, ”Skewers, you can think of it as a combination of hotpot and spicy soup.”

Liu Kexin, by nature, was quite straightforward, ”Okay, let’s taste it.”

The car slowly drove forward.

Lu Li drove absent-mindedly, his gaze continuously drifting towards her.

Several times he wanted to say, President Liu, could you please adjust your skirt, that dazzling white is distracting my driving.

...

Before long, they arrived at Front View Street.

The two of them found a roadside parking spot nearby and parked the car.

After getting out, Liu Kexin looked at the rain-soaked Lu Li somewhat speechlessly, ”You head out on a rainy day without bringing an umbrella?”

Lu Li shamelessly squeezed under her umbrella, ”It’s fine as long as you brought one.”

Being so close to a man, Liu Kexin seemed a bit unaccustomed.

She instinctively shrank her body, yet boldly said, ”Hmm, get closer to me, so you don’t catch a cold in the rain.”

This was meant as a courteous remark, but she underestimated how thick-skinned Lu Li truly was.

As soon as Lu Li heard President Liu tell him to get closer, he unhesitatingly pressed his shoulder near to hers.

Perhaps it was because they were so close, both could feel the sounds of each other’s breathing.

Liu Kexin’s face turned instantly red, and she fell silent.

Lu Li didn’t notice these things.

He pointed to a skewer shop ahead, ”This skewer shop is delicious, although it’s quite affordable, the taste is really impeccable.”

Liu Kexin gave his handsome face a furtive glance, pretending to be nonchalant, ”Hmm, I grew up in the Ugly Country, indeed I’ve never had skewers, I’ll taste it well later.”

”A bit spicy, but otherwise it’s fine.” Lu Li said, turning his head to look at her face, ”If you can’t handle it...”

Before he finished speaking, their eyes met.

The two walking people almost simultaneously paused.

Lu Li looked at Liu Kexin’s exquisite face, her eyes bright like diamonds in the night, and his heart couldn’t help but beat faster.

Liu Kexin was approximately 1.7 meters tall.

But with her high heels on, she was about the same height as Lu Li.

She also stared unblinkingly at Lu Li’s face so close to hers.

The rain was still falling, and the atmosphere was enchanting.

Lu Li looked at her red lips, feeling an urge to kiss them.

Liu Kexin’s face suddenly turned entirely red.

After a brief eye contact, she hurriedly turned her head away.

Feeling a bit flustered, Liu Kexin said, ”Hungry, let’s go eat something.”

Saying this, she walked straight ahead.

Lu Li, not wanting to get rained on, quickly followed.

They arrived at the skewer restaurant.

Maybe it was because there were a lot of people at this time.

The waiter seated the two of them at a spot near the corner.

The space here wasn’t very big.

Sitting against the wall, Lu Li felt he couldn’t stretch his limbs.

Liu Kexin, who was ordering across from him, noticed right away, ”Not comfortable sitting there?”

Lu Li said honestly, ”A bit cramped, it’s hard to move.”

Liu Kexin hesitated for a moment, then moved a little inside, ”Come sit next to me.”

Lu Li initially wanted to pretend to be polite, but recalling the romantic feeling in the rain earlier, he unhesitatingly got up and moved over.

The space was a bit small.

Sitting like this, they were quite close again, with their arms inadvertently touching.

Feeling the smoothness of her arm, Lu Li felt a tickle in his heart.

Feigning seriousness, he said, ”President Liu, you mentioned on the phone earlier that you had something to discuss with me?”

”Oh, right.” Having experienced the romantic atmosphere earlier, Liu Kexin’s mind was in chaos and she had almost forgotten the purpose of their meeting.

Hearing Lu Li’s proactive inquiry, Liu Kexin, who was ordering on her phone, occasionally glanced over, saying, ”I was working from home tonight when my assistant Li Jiajia called, saying she saw you on TV news. Curious, I looked it up and didn’t expect you to assist the police in solving a gruesome murder case, even though you took a day off.”

Lu Li, at a loss, said, ”You wouldn’t be trying to make me a live-streaming host again, would you?”

When he took first place in Nathan’s hot dog challenge last time, Liu Kexin had the idea of making him a host.

Now, hearing her mention being on the news, Lu Li could guess what she was going to say next.

Sure enough, Liu Kexin tilted her head slightly, blinking her bright eyes, ”Your participation in Nathan’s hot dog challenge made you an online sensation, and now with solving a significant case, it’s the perfect time for a traffic boost. If you become a sales host, it would positively impact the company’s live-stream sales, secure a lot of revenue, and even help the company’s live-stream platform gain a foothold. So, yes, I did call to convince you.”

Lu Li said with a wry smile, ”Haven’t I told you before, I really don’t want to be famous, can we talk about something else?”

Liu Kexin put her phone down and said very seriously, ”Could you at least hear my conditions?”

Lu Li replied helplessly, ”Go ahead.”

Liu Kexin said, ”If you’re willing to be a sales live-streaming host for the company, I’ll offer you the signing fee and share percentages of a third-tier internet celebrity. The signing fee alone is five hundred thousand, with a fifteen percent share. How’s that for a deal?”

To be honest, a five hundred thousand signing fee is indeed quite tempting.

Plus, Liu Kexin promised a fifteen percent share.

Such favorable conditions would make many hosts fight over it.

If Lu Li hadn’t solved a case and earned two hundred thousand with his super sense of smell, he might have agreed to her terms.

However, he realized that as long as he could use his superpower correctly, making money would be quite easy, making him undervalue these conditions.

In other words, Lu Li believed there was no need to take that risk.

If his live streaming succeeded and he gained many fans, his life could be scrutinized.

His secrets might be exposed.

After some thought, Lu Li still shook his head, ”I’m sorry, President Liu, but I can’t agree to your request.”

Strangely, Liu Kexin didn’t seem surprised, casually picking up the tea cup from the table and sipping some water, ”You can state your conditions, as long as they’re not too excessive, I believe I can agree.”

Lu Li thought to himself, I want to date you, could you agree to that?

Of course, he wouldn’t dare to actually say something so foolish.

With a determined shake of his head, Lu Li said, ”No matter what condition you offer, I won’t agree, even if it means you’ll fire me.”

Liu Kexin continued trying to persuade him, ”You don’t want fame, I understand, but I can add a special clause to the contract: once you build a successful stream and train a successor, you can step down anytime and still receive the five hundred thousand signing fee and fifteen percent share, even if you leave the company, the shares will still be awarded. What do you say?”

That was essentially a long-term meal ticket.

Assuming he could build a successful stream and train a successor.

The offer was tempting, to be honest.

He struggled a bit mentally, ”President Liu, how about this, I won’t agree for now. Didn’t we arrange for a popular sales host? Let her try first, and if it’s really not working, I’ll step in. What do you think?”

Seeing Lu Li’s softened stance, Liu Kexin, with proper discretion, decided not to pressure him further.

She smiled and said, ”Alright, let’s eat first.”

The two of them quickly ordered a large amount of skewers.

Once the hotpot and ingredients were served, they started eating and chatting.

About halfway through their meal, Lu Li brought up department matters, ”President Liu, there’s something I want to ask you about.”

Liu Kexin, feeling the spice, continuously hissing as she drank water, slowly put her cup down upon hearing Lu Li had something to discuss, saying, ”Go ahead.”

Lu Li organized his words, ”Didn’t our department’s Manager Wang ask for leave a few days ago?”

Liu Kexin nodded slightly, ”Yes, I heard his mother is sick and hospitalized, and he might take a long leave to care for her. During this time, I’d like you, as the department’s deputy manager, to handle more tasks, which will be a good practice for you.”

Lu Li’s expression turned serious, ”But I heard privately that Manager Wang’s leave isn’t just because of his mother’s hospitalization; supposedly, he was also threatened by a certain unknown senior executive from the company!”

While saying this, he kept watching Liu Kexin’s eyes, trying to determine her reaction and whether she knew the specifics.
