Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 39: Chapter 37: Awe

Waited in the car for a few minutes.

Soon, Wang Yu came back after finishing the call.

Lu Li leaned out of the car window, ”How did it go?”

Wang Yu replied, ”I’ve got people looking into it. They should get back to us in about fifteen to thirty minutes.”

Saying this, he got into the car and plopped down on the front passenger seat.

Lu Li, hearing that it wouldn’t take long, decided not to start the car.

Wang Yu suddenly put on a goofy expression, ”Old Lu, speaking of which, that Du Yujun, despite being a bit older, is quite pretty.”

Lu Li, with a speechless expression, said, ”Do you have a thing for older women?”

Wang Yu rolled his eyes and said, ”Early thirties and you call that older women? At most, she’s a young wife, alright?”

Lu Li was surprised that the other man actually liked this type and was a bit at a loss whether to laugh or cry.

Wang Yu smacked his lips and said, ”I say she’s pretty, not because I have any ideas, but because I’m pondering whether she might have an inappropriate relationship with Zhai Million.”

Lu Li nodded in agreement, ”I think the same, that’s why I asked you to get Du Yujun’s information.”

The two of them sat there chatting away.

After a while, ten minutes passed.

Wang Yu’s phone dinged as if a message had come in.

He hurriedly lowered his head to check, ”Old Lu, there’s information on Du Yujun. She has three people in her family. Her daughter, Yin Xiaoying, is in kindergarten, and her husband, Yin Yangguang, runs a medium-sized slaughterhouse in the nearby town close to Wuba Bridge...”

Before he could finish speaking, Lu Li suddenly realized.

He finally understood what the special scent he had smelled repeatedly was!

Yes, the slaughterhouse must leave behind the scent of blood and grease.

No wonder every place with Zhai Million’s blood had that weird smell.

It all added up to the scent of animal blood and grease!

Normally, a person working in such an environment for a long time will inevitably pick up the scent of that place.

Now that Lu Li heard that Du Yujun’s husband Yin Yangguang runs a slaughterhouse, he could basically solve the case!

His eyes lit up, ”No need to say more.”

Wang Yu was at a loss, ”What’s wrong?”

Lu Li squinted his eyes, ”I roughly know where the first crime scene is! Let’s go!”

Yes, he guessed the first crime scene was possibly at the slaughterhouse.

Lu Li couldn’t confirm it entirely yet; he needed to go to the site and use his super sense of smell to verify!

...

Wuba Bridge.

Outside the slaughterhouse gate.

Lu Li parked the car on the opposite side of the road.

He leaned out, using his super sense of smell to keep sniffing.

The scent here was overpowering; he almost gagged a few times.

Lu Li was almost ready to give up.

But thinking of the 200,000 reward, he had to endure as much as possible.

Wang Yu in the passenger seat urged, ”Bro, how’s it going? Any new discoveries?”

”Don’t rush.”

Lu Li was still trying to discern.

After all, this is a slaughterhouse with the smell of various animals’ blood filling the air after slaughtering.

No matter how keen his nose was, he couldn’t identify it at once.

He carefully sniffed around for a bit.

He suddenly showed a delighted expression.

Yes!

There was indeed the scent of Zhai Million’s blood!

Lu Li discerned the position.

He activated the Yin Yang Eye and looked in that direction.

Okay, there were several walls.

His Yin Yang Eye couldn’t penetrate them.

No choice, Lu Li had to get out of the car.

He found a suitable angle.

Lu Li used the Yin Yang Eye to look again.

Wang Yu saw him get out of the car and followed.

The next moment, Lu Li’s gaze penetrated the wall of the second room.

He pondered quietly, ”It’s here, it’s all the scent of Zhai Million’s blood. If I’m not mistaken, this must be the first crime scene. Furthermore, I sense a place where the blood scent is particularly strong.”

Immediately, Lu Li’s gaze turned to the integrated sewage processor connecting the house to the outside.

”No wonder the body disposal site didn’t leave much blood scent; it was specially treated.”

Seeing this, Lu Li couldn’t help but laugh.

Originally, although he found the first body disposal site and the first crime scene, he didn’t have direct evidence to help Wang Yu make an arrest.

Who knew this sewage processor would be so helpful!

Since the killer used the sewage processor to deal with Zhai Million’s blood and grease, surely some human tissue and the like would be discharged outside.

Generally, after processing, sewage would be discharged to the following places:

First, municipal pipelines.

Second, nearby surface water.

Third, agricultural irrigation.

Another destination is reclaimed water recycling.

Simply put, it’s for internal plant use like watering flowers and flushing toilets.

This is a rural area, so there isn’t strict regulation on sewage discharge pipes; they’re usually discharged nearby.

Lu Li used his clairvoyant eyes to find the end of the sewage discharge pipe.

Soon, he found it.

Without hesitation, Lu Li stepped towards the direction of the big river.

Wang Yu hurried to catch up, ”Where are we going?”

Lu Li said confidently, ”To the place where we get substantial evidence!”

Wang Yu was overjoyed, ”You know where the substantial evidence is?”

Talking and feeling their way through the night, the two arrived at the riverside next to the slaughterhouse.

They walked to the sewage discharge pipe.

Lu Li squatted down to observe carefully.

He found that the ditch at the mouth of the pipe did not directly extend into the river; there was a distance of more than ten centimeters.

In this ditch of more than ten centimeters, various bits of meat were deposited.

It’s not at all uncommon for a slaughterhouse to discharge sewage with bits of meat.

But among these bits of meat, Lu Li detected the scent of Zhai Million’s blood.

He even smelled some along the riverbank.

Without hesitation, Lu Li said, ”Collect these meat residues, take them back for analysis, they contain Zhai Million’s human tissue.”

Wang Yu was slightly stunned, ”Are you sure there’s really something in there?”

If it were at the beginning, he wouldn’t have such a question; he simply wouldn’t believe.

Come on, you visually checked a pile of meat residues and told me it contained human tissue? Who would actually believe you?

But after the events just now, Wang Yu genuinely believed in Lu Li.

So even though Wang Yu subjectively found it hard to believe, he persuaded himself to trust.

Lu Li chuckled, ”Just take it back for analysis and you’ll know, right?”

Wang Yu thought the same, ”If the analysis of these meat residues shows Zhai Million’s DNA, then it can be basically confirmed that Du Yujun, or her husband, is involved in this murder case, perhaps even the suspect.”

Lu Li affirmed, ”I think Du Yujun’s husband is more likely the killer. Of course, Du Yujun might have assisted. It still depends on your analysis results, but one thing is certain: if Du Yujun’s husband or both of them are involved in the murder, then the primary crime scene is likely in the slaughterhouse, narrowed down to the sewage treatment room based on the sewage discharge.”

Wang Yu excitedly said, ”Alright, I’ll call someone to collect these meat residues for overnight analysis. This is crucial evidence.”

Lu Li suddenly said, ”You don’t necessarily need the analysis results to catch the killer.”

Just as Wang Yu picked up his phone to dial, he looked over, ”What do you mean?”

Lu Li analyzed, ”Didn’t we just go to the health center and confirm the possibly intricate relationship between Du Yujun and Zhai Million?”

Wang Yu nodded slightly, ”Yes.”

Lu Li continued, ”We found these meat residues here, and based on my personal speculation, they very likely contain Zhai Million’s human tissue. That implies Du Yujun and her husband Yin Yangguang are the prime suspects. We previously determined that the initial dumping site was on the bridge. If we can confirm Yin Yangguang was near that bridge last night, wouldn’t that nearly solve the case?”

Even though he used ”possibly” a lot, which seemed uncertain.

In fact, Lu Li, banking on his clairvoyant eye and super sense of smell, could confidently say, at least one of them is the killer.

Wang Yu’s eyes lit up, seemingly enlightened, ”For a body disposal, one wouldn’t just walk over; there must be tools to hide the body, likely a car or other vehicle. If we can confirm Yin Yangguang’s vehicle stayed by the bridge for a long time last night, then the case is indeed solvable. Or at least there’s enough evidence to legally summon him.”

He paused, then continued, ”Country roads don’t have surveillance, but town roads might. If I know what Yin Yangguang’s vehicle is, like the license plate, then check road information surveillance. If he indeed headed toward the earlier mentioned bridge, then he’s almost certainly the killer. I could also ask nearby residents if they saw anyone or any vehicle lingering there last night.”

Lu Li reminded, ”The health center surveillance could also be checked; combining it with road surveillance might yield unexpected results.”

”Yes! Yes, exactly!” Wang Yu repeatedly nodded, ”What you say makes so much sense.”

Then, Wang Yu excitedly patted Lu Li’s shoulder hard, ”Brother, you’re incredible tonight! If this case really gets resolved, I’d crown you as the master detective!”

Lu Li chuckled, ”If I’m the master detective, then what are you?”

”I? A police dog.”

Wang Yu joked, even barking ”woof, woof” a couple of times.

Lu Li, amused and exasperated, said, ”Alright, quit jesting, let’s get down to business.”

Wang Yu sighed, ”Who would’ve thought, I, a policeman, need you to teach me how to solve cases.”

Lu Li blinked at him, ”If we crack this case, be sure to tell your boss and Zhai Million’s family that I found the crucial evidence. I don’t care how you spin it, just make sure it logically fits.”

Wang Yu chuckled, ”Don’t worry, I’ll definitely tell the victim’s family. But since you provided this ’evidence’, how about coming back to make a statement with me?”

Lu Li: ”...”

”Let’s go, skipping the statement won’t fly.”

Wang Yu grabbed Lu Li, leading him towards the car with excitement, ”Old Lu, if this case resolves like your deduction, I owe you big time!”

There was something else he left unsaid.

Which is, Lu Li is simply incredible.

This case had almost no leads initially.

And Lu Li, just walking around a few places, found so much evidence?

And there’s a strong likelihood it could be solved.

Provided those meat residues have Zhai Million’s DNA.

At this moment, Wang Yu could only think, does Lu Li really have a Yin Yang Eye?

Thinking of those words, he couldn’t help but shiver.

Wang Yu’s gaze at Lu Li suddenly became filled with awe.
