Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 293: Chapter 163: Sometimes a Man Should Pretend Not to Understand

He encountered two colleagues from the company by the elevator, one in charge of equipment management and the other an office assistant.

”Director Joyce is here!” The office assistant, a young woman in her twenties, had the surname Palmer and was called Mary Palmer. She was incredibly beautiful, even prettier than the girl nicknamed ’the wild one,’ and was very enthusiastic and diligent at work.

Joyce Shaw smiled and nodded, ”Good morning, Miss Palmer.”

”Director Shaw, you don’t have to be so formal. Just call me Mary,” Mary Palmer said with a smile, smoothing her curls.

The colleague responsible for equipment management seemed still somewhat annoyed and didn’t speak to him proactively.

Joyce Shaw was too lazy to bother with him either, so he stepped into the elevator, exchanging a few occasional words with Mary Palmer, and then reached his office.

He had just sat down when Thomas, in a hurry, came to his office door and knocked.

Joyce had not closed the door. Seeing it was Thomas, he said blandly, ”Mr. Stewart, do you need something?”

Thomas was very excited and shouted, ”Dear Joyce! I was wrong! I misjudged you! You’re really amazing! You finished analyzing all that data in just four days! And the results are very persuasive!”

Joyce breathed a sigh of relief, stood up, and said politely, ”You’ve finished reading my data analysis report?”

Thomas went over, gave him an enthusiastic hug, his white, chubby face as red as a tomato, and said, ”I just finished reading it; it’s really impressive! Very persuasive! I trust you now, you truly have the skills!”

Joyce’s lips curved up slightly, but he remained composed and said, ”You flatter me, I was just doing my job.”

Thomas chuckled, ”Joyce, you people from your country are just too modest. People from my country, even if they do no work, always brag like they’re invincible. But you guys, you work your tails off and then say it’s just your duty.”

Rarely had Joyce been amused by him, ”Thomas, you’re truly humorous!”

Seeing that Joyce finally called him ”Thomas” again, Thomas knew he wasn’t upset anymore and happily sat down, casually asking, ”My dear Joyce, I have some questions for you.”

As he spoke, he took out the data analysis report, pointed to some data marked with a marker, and asked, ”Could you explain how this data was analyzed?”

Joyce glanced at it and said, ”Here’s how it is: based on the original data you provided, I created a mathematical model, plugged your raw data into it, recalculated, and came to this conclusion.”

Joyce proceeded to display his mathematical model.

Thomas nodded repeatedly as he watched, saying, ”That’s it! Dear Joyce, I take back what I said before. Your country truly has exceptional AI talent, like you!—Now I can trust you to complete my research!”

Joyce: ”???”

So the raw data just now wasn’t even Thomas’s research?

Joyce tentatively asked, ”...So this data, where is it from? If I know more details, I can analyze it better. Are you going to continue the analysis?”

Thomas now fully trusted him, got up to close the office door, and said, ”We need to continue analyzing. Here’s the thing, you know we’re acquiring other AI companies.”

Joyce nodded, ”I don’t know how the progress is?”

”This is our preliminary work.” Thomas patted the original data report, ”I need to know if those companies’ technologies are worth our acquisition. This is the first company; for confidentiality, let’s call it Company A. I’ll later send you another company’s original data report, all AI raw data.”

”I need you to analyze how much of their technology is genuine artificial intelligence.”

”To what extent.”

”And how much market application potential it has.”

As he outlined the tasks he wanted Joyce to handle, Joyce made notes on his computer.

While noting, Joyce smiled and said, ”Since they are AI companies, why do we need to analyze how much is real AI?”

Thomas laughed, ”You have no idea. A country known as a ’software giant’ claims its best ’AI’ company actually uses ’humans’ to do AI work.”

Joyce was stunned for a moment before understanding Thomas’s words, surprised, ”...Really? Are you saying that an AI company is actually using people to conduct the analysis?”

”Ha, what do you think?” Thomas sneered, ”I once collaborated with a company from that country. I sent over the medical X-rays I needed to be analyzed by AI, and they ended up having some medical professionals analyze it, pretending it was AI! – Absolutely ridiculous!”

Joyce couldn’t help but find it funny and humorously said, ”That’s understandable. After all, that country has a large population, and manpower is much cheaper than real AI.”

”That’s where their thinking is flawed. Real AI, once popularized, is much cheaper than manpower, simpler, and even more accurate, with almost no errors.” Thomas was very optimistic about artificial intelligence.

Joyce nodded, ”If AI develops to an ideal state, it would indeed be better.”

”Analyze it well, I’m counting on you! Once the company acquisition is complete, I’ll offer you a share of the profits!” Thomas was very satisfied with Joyce, clearly wanting to groom him as his protégé.

But Joyce was not so excited. He said composedly, ”Thank you, Thomas. I hope I can meet your expectations.”

After returning to his office, Thomas sent another raw data report to Joyce.

This time, the data’s scale was much larger than the previous one, and the content to be analyzed was also much more specific.

Looking at Thomas’s requests, Joyce furrowed his brow even more.

But he said nothing, silently reviewing the raw data, and then began to construct a mathematical model.
