Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 283: Chapter 158: Truly One of Us

The old Daoist kept a wooden face, pretending not to hear Lydia Graham’s words.

Lawrence Winters could only smile and say, ”Chief Graham, this is my great grandmaster, he has been living in the mountains and hasn’t come down for ten years. This year, he came down specifically for the ancestor worship.”

Lawrence Winters actually had no idea what life the old Daoist had been living for the past ten years, nor what he was doing in the Capital City.

But now that Chief Graham asked, he had to make up a story about the old Daoist!

Lydia Graham made an ”oh” sound, smiled, and asked, ”Great grandmaster? That’s quite an interesting title. So he’s your great grandmaster? What do you study? And who’s your master?”

Lawrence Winters felt a bit awkward.

Back when she shipped Mason and Graham, especially when she had greatly admired Chief Graham’s heroic stance in court, she never thought she would face a day when she was ”interrogated” by Chief Graham.

She replied sheepishly, ”Well, I study... feng shui under my master...”

Lawrence Winters never thought studying feng shui was degrading, but in front of people like Christopher Mason and Lydia Graham, she felt intensely embarrassed to say she was into ”feng shui.”

It was like a street performer meeting a master from a renowned sect, like a paper-thin disguise that could be easily pierced.

But Lydia Graham showed no sign of looking down on her and found it extremely interesting.

She blinked her lively eyes, her lashes fluttering like butterfly wings, looked at the old Daoist, and asked amiably, ”So you’re an immortal, I apologize for my disrespect. Did you come specifically to pay respects to my family’s ancestor? Are you my family’s great uncle?”

The old Daoist wasn’t keen on interacting with Lydia Graham or Christopher Mason, but her way of speaking was pleasant, and addressing him as an ”immortal” hit his sweet spot.

Moreover, the kid called Asui was adorable beyond words, like a little glutinous rice dumpling made out of snow, more exquisite and lively than the kids on New Year pictures.

He pretended to be indifferent, glanced at Asui quickly, then shifted his gaze away.

After a little while, he took another secretive glance before looking away again.

Initially, Asui was giggling at Lawrence Winters, but then he noticed the old man with the goatee sneaking glances at him, so his attention shifted.

When the old Daoist sneaked a third glance, Asui raised his three short, chubby fingers and said, ”Third time’s the charm! The first three are free, you’ll have to pay if you stare again, old immortal!”

Lawrence Winters burst into laughter when she heard this and couldn’t resist patting Asui’s little hand, saying, ”...You’re definitely one of us! Surely a descendant of my great grandmaster!”

The old Daoist then snorted and, annoyed, said, ”What nonsense are you spouting?! How do you know he’s my descendant?!”

Lawrence Winters spread her hands out, laughing, ”Regardless of blood relation, anyone associated with you surely goes after money... Isn’t it just birds of a feather flock together?”

”You’re the one going after money, your whole family goes after money!” The old Daoist glared at her.

But turning to look at the delicate snow-doll-like Asui, his gaze softened considerably.

He stared at Asui, trying to spot traces of his sister in his face.

But unfortunately, he could hardly see any shadow of his sister.

Looking at Christopher Mason again, aside from that suffocating aura, his looks were more handsome than any man he had ever seen.

Perhaps only Kenneth Osborne, Lawrence’s Kenneth, could barely match his attractiveness.

But in terms of aura, he was far behind.

There was a slight glimmer of moisture in the old Daoist’s eyes.

He hesitated for a moment before asking Christopher Mason, ”...Are you Clara’s son?”

Christopher Mason raised an eyebrow, ”You’ve met Mrs. Sterling?”

”Mrs. Sterling?” The old Daoist looked puzzled, ”Who’s Mrs. Sterling?”

Lydia Graham quickly explained, ”Mrs. Sterling is Christopher’s mother, Mrs. Clara Sterling.”

The old Daoist gave a laugh, ”Clara Sterling is still alive? I thought she died with her father.”

Christopher Mason narrowed his eyes slightly, feeling displeased but not showing it, and said calmly, ”My grandfather died in the line of duty, but my mother survived the accident.”

He paused and then continued, ”I’ve never heard my mother mention she had an uncle. If you don’t mind...”

”No, I do mind. I never thought about recognizing her, let alone you people,” the old Daoist suddenly became very harsh, like a porcupine bristling with spikes.

Lawrence Winters was startled.

To be so rude to people like Christopher Mason and Lydia Graham, was her great grandmaster tired of living?

Before Christopher Mason and Lydia Graham could say anything, Lawrence Winters stepped forward to shield the old Daoist behind her, anxiously saying, ”Mr. Mason, Chief Graham, please don’t take offense, my great grandmaster means no harm. He has lived in the mountains for many years, without even internet access, so he’s completely out of touch with social norms. He just doesn’t know how to speak nicely...”
