Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 269: Chapter 149: Third Favorite (First Update)

Lawrence Winters was quite pleased, ”Is True Monarch Zhaode coming to Capital City? How did he bear to leave the mountains?”

”Do you still remember going to the mountains to see him with me when you were young?” Nick Zeller chuckled as he started the car, habitually glancing around.

It wasn’t too late yet, this was a commercial area and at this time of night there were plenty of people around, all young people finishing work and heading home.

Lawrence Winters fastened his seatbelt and said with a smile, ”Of course I remember, I was ten back then, how could I forget?”

”I particularly remember that the food in the mountains was delicious, Master Grandfather was great at cooking, those were real mountain delicacies.”

”The bamboo pith stewed black-boned chicken, the flavor of the bamboo pith almost entirely infused into the soup, and the chicken was tender but not dry, just a little bit of salt was enough to make it incredibly tasty.”

”And the mushroom oil made from pine mushrooms, poured into freshly made thin noodles with two pieces of steamed mandarin duck, you eat one bowl and don’t want anything else all day.”

Lawrence Winters rattled off the delicacies he had eaten back in the day.

Nick Zeller listened and laughed, ”You’re amazing to remember the food from back then, your Master Grandfather knows you like to eat, he brought bamboo pith, pine mushrooms, and mandarin ducks for you.”

”Really?” Lawrence Winters’s eyes lit up, ”Are the mandarin ducks alive or is it duck meat?”

”Of course they’re alive. How would he bring duck meat? He’s coming down from the mountain, just walking along the mountain road takes two days, cooked duck meat would spoil.” Nick Zeller said with a grin, ”After coming down, he sent me a message; in two days he’ll be in the Capital City.”

Lawrence Winters sighed a bit, ”Everything is great at Master Grandfather’s place, except for not having internet. Otherwise, it’d be nice to add WeChat and keep in touch regularly.”

”Your Master Grandfather doesn’t like to be constantly connected. Do you really think the mountain can’t get internet? He just doesn’t want to use it. Unlike me, your Master Grandfather can’t let go of worldly indulgences, he’s truly one devoted to the Celestial Path Sect, practicing day and night, hoping to ascend.”

Lawrence Winters stifled a laugh, ”Uncle, go lie to your clients with that talk, don’t tell me.”

”You little smart aleck! When have I lied?!” Nick Zeller turned his head, puffing his cheeks and glaring at her, ”Your Master Grandfather is genuinely dedicated to practice, don’t you doubt it!”

”I believe Master Grandfather is sincere in his practice, but I don’t believe he will ascend.” Lawrence Winters shrugged, ”Although I’ve been with you watching feng shui for so many years and seen quite a few mystical things, I fundamentally think these all have scientific explanations; it’s just that we don’t know them yet.”

Nick Zeller: ”...”

He collected himself, and said frustratedly, ”Don’t undermine me! Your Uncle relied on this to raise you, you can’t just burn bridges!”

”I certainly won’t...” Lawrence Winters smiled placatingly at Nick Zeller, ”In fact, in front of Master Grandfather, I would never say such things; I’d only wish him a swift ascent to bliss!”

”You’re talking nonsense again!” Nick Zeller scolded her playfully and even freed a hand to tap her head slightly, ”It’s ascending! Ascending! — Say it’s swift ascent to bliss and I’ll flatten you in front of Master Grandfather!”

Lawrence Winters giggled and ducked, not noticing Nick Zeller’s gaze swiftly passing around her head before returning.

The uncle and nephew reached home, Gabrielle Winters hurriedly set the dinner table, saying worriedly, ”Lawrence, is work busy lately? Why are you starting to work overtime?”

”It was a bit busy today. But it’s worthwhile busy.” Lawrence Winters drank a sip of milk and said earnestly, ”As long as they pay enough, overtime is no big deal!”

”You child, Uncle and Mom have never made you suffer financially, how come you’ve become so focused on money?” Gabrielle Winters laughed and was puzzled, casting a glance towards Nick Zeller.

Nick Zeller chuckled and sat next to Lawrence Winters, saying, ”I’ll have a bowl too, and keep Lawrence company.”

Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller had already had their dinner; she hurriedly stopped him, ”If you want to eat, I just made sweet potato sticky rice cakes today, go have some. It’s healthy, reduces blood fat, won’t gain weight. Look at you...”

As she spoke, she unobtrusively sized up Nick Zeller’s slightly hefty physique.

Nick Zeller’s face immediately turned red, fidgeting as he stood up, ”I’ll go get some sweet potatoes!”

Watching Nick Zeller’s wide-backed figure dashing away, Lawrence Winters hurriedly said, ”Mom, you’re so insensitive talking like that. Is weight something to talk about? Whoever talks to me about weight, I’ll turn on them! — Besides, Uncle’s been this weight ever since I remember, he won’t get any heavier.”
