Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 264: Chapter 146: See, Aren’t I Obedient? (Second Update)

Seeing them come in, Edward Foster directly said: ”Zoe Johnson, go to the HR department to do a handover later, from now on, Lawrence Winters will be Lucas Harlow’s agent, you don’t need to handle him anymore. Then go to the finance department to settle the accounts.”

Zoe Johnson was Lucas Harlow’s agent, with a commission rate of fifteen percent, but more than half of it had to be paid to the company, so her commission rate was actually only five percent.

”Young Mr. Foster, can you give me another chance?” Zoe Johnson was very anxious, she had been with the company for ten years, suddenly being fired, how would she face people outside?

”Another chance? What did you do wrong? Do I need to say it again?” Edward Foster lowered his face, ”Becca is already selling her car and house to pay off the breach fines, do you want the same?”

Zoe Johnson shuddered, stood up with a face of defeat, bowed her head and said: ”I’m sorry.”

”Don’t apologize to me, apologize to Lawrence Winters. You’re colleagues, why target her like this?” Edward Foster snorted coldly, ”Sister Zeng has already told me, if it weren’t for Lawrence’s quick thinking, this time not only I but even our company would be ruined by the two of you. I’m only holding Becca accountable, not you, considering your years of hard work.”

Zoe Johnson’s hand clenched tightly, her inner grievances reached their peak, but she dared not show it on her face, still sporting a look of sincere regret.

”Thank you, young Mr. Foster.” She said softly, then to Lawrence Winters: ”Ms. Winters, I truly apologize for what I’ve done to you. I hope you can be forgiving and let this pass.”

Lawrence Winters was very surprised, not expecting Zoe Johnson to be so adaptable.

This grudge has been formed, it might cause trouble in the future.

She carefully examined Zoe Johnson’s facial expressions and secretly calculated her fortune, and was shocked.

Acting upon the principle of minimizing unnecessary trouble, coupled with the Heavenly Master’s need to accumulate good karma, she changed her mind and smiled: ”Zoe, you’re being too serious, we’re all here for the company, some differences are unavoidable, so I’ll raise the matter on your behalf, let Zoe stay. —Young Mr. Foster, let’s not make a big deal out of this, don’t embarrass Zoe.”

”Zoe has been with the company for so many years, if she suddenly leaves, what would others think of you, young Mr. Foster? Who would still work diligently for NewHuman Corporation?”

Lawrence Winters’ magnanimous attitude of ”returning kindness for enmity” not only surprised Edward Foster and Lucas Harlow but even Zoe Johnson was stunned.

She thought Lawrence Winters would kick her when she’s down and mock her well.

Because if she were in Lawrence Winters’ position, she’d definitely step on her, never letting her rise again.

But upon further reflection, indeed, it’s better to resolve grievances than to form them.

Unless one can physically eliminate the opponent instantly, who knows what the future holds?

Thirty years on the east bank, thirty years on the west, don’t underestimate a youth in adversity...

Zoe Johnson looked at Lawrence Winters’ clear and calm smiling face, recalling when she first met her, enthusiastically encouraging her to join their girl group debut...

But in just a few months, she was already on the same level as her, possibly standing even higher in the future.

Zoe Johnson was truly impressed by Lawrence Winters.

She looked at her with a complex expression, closed her eyes, and sincerely said: ”Ms. Winters, no matter what, thank you for speaking for me at such a time. I know I shouldn’t have done what I did, but we’ve been struggling to survive in the entertainment industry. I lack your confidence and backing, I can’t be as kind as you.”

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

She most disliked others calling her kind.

The term ”kind” had been stigmatized; calling someone kind was actually saying they’re a fool.

She raised her hand, ”Zoe, you don’t need to force such compliments, I hope you can stay too, simply because I don’t want other employees to resent me. You, as a ’senior veteran,’ leaving because of me, would only create more distance, making their work apathetic, and I’d have trouble handling that.”

Edward Foster coughed and said: ”Alright, you two stop with the sympathy and mutual praise. Okay, Zoe Johnson, you stay, you will remain the artist director, but remember, you’re making amends now, don’t disappoint me again.”

Zoe Johnson was bewildered, glanced at Edward Foster, then quickly withdrew her gaze.

She thought, she indeed needed to reassess Lawrence Winters’ position in Edward Foster’s mind.

She had worked at NewHuman Corporation for ten years, from a little assistant to the current artist director, her connections in the entertainment circle needn’t be said; more importantly, she knew Edward Foster too well.

For instance, he had been parachuted into the company as president for four years, during which he’d never taken back a decision once made, even if wrong, he’d persist.

It was the first time he’d taken back his decision.

Before Lawrence Winters and Lucas Harlow walked in, Edward Foster had already demoted her and asked her to pack up and leave.

Unexpectedly, Lawrence Winters spoke a good word for her, and Edward Foster immediately changed his mind.

Many top-tier female stars hadn’t been able to change Edward Foster’s decisions, yet Lawrence Winters managed...

Zoe Johnson was clearly more honest now, she smiled at Lawrence Winters and said: ”Ms. Winters, I owe you. Once the procedures get settled, I’ll treat you to a meal, and thoroughly explain the agent contract regarding Lucas Harlow, and introduce you to those directors, producers, TV stations, and streaming platforms’ prominent figures in the entertainment circle, one by one.”

This was to proactively bring Lawrence Winters into the circle.

Lawrence Winters didn’t expect a small release of goodwill would dissolve a future potential risk, feeling pleased, she mentally gave a thumbs-up to her uncle while saying: ”Then I’ll trouble Zoe. Once my procedures are settled, I’ll definitely reach out to you.”

Zoe Johnson had recovered, she could take things in stride, pat her on the shoulder, ”Whenever you’re free.”

Then she nodded to Edward Foster and Lucas Harlow, before turning to leave.

After Zoe Johnson left, Edward Foster came out from behind the desk, leaned against the edge, crossed his arms, and smiled at Lawrence Winters, saying: ”Lawrence, see, am I not very obedient?”

Lawrence Winters: ???

This sudden transformation from a domineering CEO into a puppy seeking praise, what’s going on?

Young Mr. Foster, wake up!

Edward is three years older than me!
