Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1532: Chapter 35: Blitzkrieg (18)_2

He looked back at the bandit army generals gathered around the electronic sand table, his eyes full of respect: ”Their first division’s Special Forces Camp fought bitterly. They repelled the Judgers’ attack seven times, destroyed more than a hundred Judger vehicles, and their own losses have reached up to sixty percent, yet still they fight to the death without retreat.”

”Fight to the death without retreat.” Chen Fengxi chewed on this phrase, and a sense of reverence slowly spread from his heart.

Perhaps before today, his view of the Leray Federation resisting several great empires in a war of national defense was only a vague sympathy, gained from military department intelligence and television news, as an outsider.

But at this moment, as these warriors from Leray, along with their Mars companions, were fighting bloodily here, he finally understood how heroic that war was, and what a respectable nation it was.

”A small country with only 1.7 billion people, three Star Domains, more than five million regular troops,” Pierre sighed and said, ”faces the four great empires of the Western Alliance alone in this war, has suffered over thirty million deaths, yet can still capture Mars, survive in the cracks, and continue its resistance. I don’t know if I should feel exhilarated or terrified.”

”Perhaps you should feel fortunate,” Chen Fengxi gently patted Pierre on the shoulder and smiled slightly, ”Having such allies, aside from feeling fortunate, I only feel fortunate!”

”Before, I never understood why Lord Hastings valued this country and this Mixed Army so much,” Pierre smiled self-deprecatingly and shook his head, ”Now I understand.”

He looked at Chen Fengxi, seriously said: ”In this battle, regardless of the final outcome, I think I will never allow any Feiyang people I know to look at the bandit army with discrimination. Compared to them, the current Feiyang Army is just a sheep in a lion’s skin!”

Chen Fengxi said nothing, only patted his hand firmly on his shoulder twice more.

Pierre lowered his head and took a sip of coffee. The coffee was unsweetened, and its slightly burnt bitterness matched his mood.

This was a battle born out of desperation, to be reborn.

It was he, as the Chief of Staff of the Leifeng Star Army, who gradually led the troops to their current predicament.

Before the bandit army arrived, he already knew that continuing the fight like this would inevitably lead to defeat. However, he was unable or perhaps lacked the courage to extricate the Fei Alliance Joint Army, stuck on the western line of Phoenix City, being gradually consumed and unable to advance or retreat.

He hoped for the Allies’ third reinforcement. To him, it was the only chance to turn the tide of the war.

He didn’t expect that what came was not the reinforcement he hoped for, but a chubby Leray Lieutenant General and his Mixed Army.

Just as he hadn’t had time to get angry, the Fatty proposed a battle plan he didn’t dare to even consider, and now it’s come to this situation.

Everything was like a dream.

In the end, he agreed to the Fatty’s plan. Though in fact, even now he doesn’t know if his decision was right or wrong, yet he doesn’t regret it.

After all, in this beautiful twilight, he saw a glimmer of hope.

As long as the strategic bypass is completed, as long as the main force of Bellif’s Northern Cluster is annihilated, the Fei Alliance Joint Army can form a powerful advantage like Mount Tai crushing down in Sunset Mountain, can safely complete the shift from equal force allocation to group integration on the western line of Phoenix City.

More importantly, annihilating Bellif’s Northern Cluster will severely injure the Western Alliance forces and seize the strategic initiative.

By then, the tens of divisions of the Fei Alliance Joint Army will sweep the western line of Phoenix City with overwhelming momentum, destroying all the advantages the Western Alliance has painstakingly built over the months in one fell swoop!

Let alone holding out for a month, even if someone said the Front Army could win the Resk Battle without rear reinforcements, he wouldn’t doubt it!

However, if Sunset Mountain cannot hold, or if the Western Alliance people detect the danger and withdraw early, then it’s all over.

By then, Bellif, with its preserved main force, will have enough cards to drag the desperate Fei Alliance Joint Army down in Sunset Mountain. Meanwhile, the various war zone troops moving north with the bandit army can only watch helplessly as their lines, held for months, are easily breached by the enemy.

When the Western Alliance occupies Phoenix City, whether north or south, the Fei Alliance Joint Army on the western line of Phoenix City will be in a hopeless situation, unable to take care of both ends.

One side is heaven, the other is hell.

He himself seems to be walking on a thin rope between heaven and hell.

As Pierre thought about it, he suddenly felt that perhaps he wasn’t as anxious as he imagined, instead, he always had a certain inexplicable and firm confidence in his heart.

On the SkyNet screen, intelligence data scrolled rapidly, and the battle situation map changed quickly. Through the glaring patches of red in the combat area, it seemed possible to see every inch of Sunset Mountain’s burning battle grounds, every inch of land soaking in blood, hearing every shell explosion, every roar.

Both sides were already fighting with all their might, attacking and counterattacking back and forth.

The Western Alliance had just taken a section of the battlefield, and the Fei Alliance Army immediately launched a desperate counterattack to retake it. The reclaimed positions had no time for refurbishment before a tide of enemies surged up again.

If other positions were considered hell, then the 152 Position at this moment was the lowest level of hell.

And standing at the forefront of the eighteenth level of hell, leading all the Fei Alliance soldiers, was the proud and straight backs of the bandit army mecha pilots!

Pierre drank the coffee in one go.

In this war, Feiyang is no match for Leray!

Beep, beep, beep, a few crisp electronic sounds echoed from the central control table.

Upon hearing the sound, Chen Fengxi, Pierre, along with Margaret by the window, and the bandit army generals around the electronic sand table, all quickly turned their heads and briskly gathered around Ann Lei.

”Bandit army battle report.” Ann Lei’s slender fingers danced swiftly over the virtual keyboard like ten little white elves performing a joyful dance.

With the decryption and unfolding of each document, countless data poured into the SkyNet System, causing the battle situation map on the screen to change accordingly.

The bandit army main force is 63 kilometers from 49 Peak!

Meanwhile, the Suss 21st Army Group’s main force is only 51 kilometers from 49 Peak!

”Staff Department, calculate the time immediately!” Chen Fengxi ordered urgently.

A burst of rapid keyboard tapping sounded immediately from the row of computers on the left side of SkyNet, and more than a dozen staff members began calculations simultaneously. Taking into account both sides’ marching speed, terrain obstacles along the route, weather impact, and other factors, they calculated the time for both troops’ arrival at 49 Peak.

Moments later, the tapping ceased, and a duty officer stood up to report: ”The bandit army is five minutes behind.”

”Five minutes?!”

A Chuckna Major General blurted out in repetition, looking at his nearby companions with mutual consternation and worry evident in their eyes.

In modern warfare, time is a very important factor.

It can be said, whether in real-world wars or simulated confrontations, the factor of time always dominates the campaign.

Some campaigns may drag on for weeks or even months, yet falling behind the opponent during a critical interval means the campaign’s failure.

Even if it’s just a few minutes behind!

Now, the bandit army main force is five minutes behind the Suss main force. More serious is, at 49 Peak, a Suss Armored Group is also stationed!

This group could very well advance and block the bandit army’s main force.

”Where is the bandit army’s vanguard?” Margaret’s cold voice broke the silence.

”The vanguard is the bandit army’s First Regiment of the Second Armored Division,” Ann Lei, who quickly scanned the open battle plan, replied, ”Currently, this regiment is on a forced march to Maple Slope, five kilometers southeast of 49 Peak, which is the Suss main force’s only route and is 52 kilometers away!”

kilometers...

Chen Fengxi and Pierre simultaneously looked up, meeting each other’s eyes in surprise and delight.

Margaret’s lips curled into a smile: ”Fatty!”
