Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1531: Chapter 35: Blitzkrieg (18)

As the battle at Sunset Mountain reached its climax, the Fei Alliance Armored Forces under Fatty’s leadership were speeding towards the northeast on the east bank of the Tulun River.

Viewed from above, three routes of this armored force formed long dragons stretching over ten kilometers, advancing side by side through the winding valleys and undulating hills. Meanwhile, another route turned east, bypassing a valley forty kilometers away and curving northwest along a small stream.

At the same time, the four armored divisions of Suss’s 21st Army Group were rapidly approaching the 49 Peak along the Charloks Mountain Range, extending towards the junction of the Tulun and Xiushui Rivers.

Rugged and difficult mountain paths, towering mountains, made these swiftly moving Mechas look like herds of migrating elk.

They flowed through valleys, ran along ridges, leaped between rocks, and splashed water in the streams.

The distance between the warring parties was rapidly shrinking!

As the battle progressed, the situation was becoming evident. Both sides understood each other’s intentions; what they could do was race against time, trying to occupy strategic locations before the enemy’s arrival to gain operational initiative.

Although there was no artillery, no smoke, and no fierce fighting, this silent clash, akin to a duel between sword experts, scrambling for advantageous positions for a fatal strike, was even more breathtaking than direct confrontations with thunderous artillery.

Chen Fengxi bit his pipe, pacing back and forth in the war room. Frowning tightly, he seemed unaware that his pipe had long extinguished.

Beside him, Pierre and other senior officers of the Resk Main Army were either puffing fiercely on their cigarettes, staring tensely at SkyNet’s live battle reports, or pacing restlessly like trapped animals, their gazes occasionally meeting and quickly moving away.

Even the bandit army officers, usually calm, looked much more nervous at this moment.

Just after commanding the counterattack at Jingfeng Valley and Bilin Mountain, Margaret stood by the window, staring outside, lost in thought.

Blatt, Fei Ouwen, and other generals gathered around the electronic sandbox, simulating strategies while anxiously waiting for battle reports. As soon as Ann Lei at the SkyNet information station made any movements, they pricked up like vigilant deer, attentive and holding their breath.

Everyone was enduring the torment of waiting.

It was a torment filled with hope, tinged with uncontrollable excitement, making hearts race and breaths quicken.

On the western line of Phoenix City, it was early spring.

In the Southern Combat Zone, many soldiers had switched to thin combat uniforms. Trees in the mountains began to bud, grasslands turned green gradually, dotted with wildflowers. The wind was no longer so cold, and snow on the mountains began to melt, merging into babbling streams resonating between the woods.

Soon, the mountain forests would turn lush green, wild grasses would ripple like waves in the wind, and wildflowers would bloom all over.

From south to north, this warm spring air was spreading. Even endless artillery fire could not stop nature’s seasonal transition.

From harsh cold to early spring, just like the mood of all Fei Alliance soldiers right now.

A few dozen hours ago, the situation on Leifeng Star was so severe that imagining the future seemed inconceivable, but after those hours, with the bandit army’s arrival and the implementation of bandit army Admiral Tian Xingjian’s astonishingly crazy battle plan, the situation suddenly showed a glimmer of hope.

Perhaps at this moment, emotions became more tense and more anxious.

”The 12th Division’s 1st Regiment has already advanced,” Pierre went to the dining table on one side of the room, poured a cup of coffee, and gently stirred it, saying to Chen Fengxi, who was somewhat lost holding his pipe: ”Within the hour, we cannot send any additional troops to the front line; if we do so now, it might alert the enemy.”

Chen Fengxi nodded without speaking.

The key to this battle was to annihilate the Northern Cluster’s main troops of Bellif in the Sunset Mountain Basin.

If the frontline couldn’t withstand the enemy’s assault, or if the Western Alliance’s main forces sensed danger and withdrew before the bandit army completed the circling maneuver, then the bandit army’s well-held hook punch would swing into thin air.

What followed would be the rapid disintegration of the Phoenix City western line situation.

He looked up at the red sunset outside the three large floor-to-ceiling windows on one side of the meeting room, suddenly feeling that everyone in the room was like gamblers at a table, waiting for opponents to reveal their cards as night fell.

And before that, was a never-ending battle of wits.

No matter if it was drawing cards or raising stakes, everything must be cautiously controlled within limits not to startle the opponent.

This was the first bet of the gamble, perhaps also the last.

If they won, the Fei Alliance Joint Army would have enough chips to continue gambling with the opponent. If they lost, they could only cleanly exit.

”What’s the situation on 152nd high ground?” Chen Fengxi looked up at the busy staff at the central control station and checked the time. He hadn’t received any news from 152nd high ground for ten minutes.

”Not promising,” Pierre replied softly, his coffee swirling into a brown and dark vortex reflecting his mood: ”The enemy deployed two hundred Judgers, and if it weren’t for the bandit army decisively striking first and taking out thirty, the situation would be even more difficult.”
