Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 50: Chapter 10 Kowtowing to Admit Wrongdoing

Most of these staff members are all brawn and no brains. How could they be a match for a Special Soldier? Just now, they saw the usually honest-looking Fatty, who seemed very easy to bully, suddenly change his expression and pin down Keren without any resistance. The group was stunned. This Fatty dared to play tricks on people.

Tian Xingjian waved the document in his left hand and placed it in front of Keren, whose face was pressed against the table, mocking him: ”You still don’t believe it’s trash? If you follow this plan, do you know how many people will die on the front line? Look at your defense map. You ignore the obvious flanking maneuver of the enemy, placing heavy troops at point R. A single side assault can completely encircle these forces. Do you think wars are won by having more troops on the front lines?”

He licked his finger and flipped a few pages, pointing to a figure: ”Do you think the land-based air force is omnipotent? People don’t need to eat or sleep? Dare to set the sortie rate of a flight team to 1,200 sorties per hour. Are you an idiot? Moving armored forces to the west, even if the air force can be deployed, can that stop the enemy army group’s full-line assault from points E to H?”

Fatty released Keren, threw the document at him, and sneered: ”Look carefully. The current front line is not a parallel line, but interlocked! The enemy is among us, and we are among the enemy. Even if it was a parallel line, the depth has been eliminated by you. Without two reserve armored groups, you dream of holding out against the enemy’s multi-point assault for three hours? Only calculating your own side, how old are you this year?”

Keren angrily said, ”You’re talking nonsense! If we don’t place troops in the R area, we can’t stop the direct attack. There’s a fully mechanized infantry regiment on the side, stationed in high terrain. How could the enemy rush in with one assault?”

The major behind him, now clear-headed, mocked, ”A Lieutenant responsible for computer calculations dares to lecture the top students of the Capital Military Academy. This world is truly turned upside down!”

At this time, Pat, the director of the 6th Research Room, came back. Seeing the tense scene, he hurriedly came to mediate, smiling and saying to Keren and the staff: ”We can discuss things nicely. Lieutenant Tian is new here and unfamiliar with many situations, please bear with him.”

Several staff members of the 6th Research Room also spoke kind words. Keren’s expression softened slightly, but the major refused to give up and shouted, ”What’s wrong with your 6th room? Do you think being traitors is justified? A lieutenant dares to criticize our plans and hit people. Afterward, you ask us to bear it? Bear with you traitorous bunch collaborating with each other?!”

As soon as he said this, everyone’s expression changed. Although the 6th room has been bullied within the Combat Department due to the previous director’s connections, they were still colleagues. Although there was disdain behind the scenes, there had never been such direct conflict openly.

The scene suddenly became chaotic. The staff of the 6th room had been taken advantage of enough and were now being insulted to their faces, so they were all indignantly furious.

Although Pat was transferred from elsewhere, he was now in charge of the 6th room. Being scolded in public, this usually nice person was also quite angry, coldly asking: ”What do you want to consider this matter settled?”

The major knew he had blundered after speaking, but due to his usual disdain for the 6th room, he couldn’t back down now, rigidly saying, ”Let that Fatty kowtow and apologize to us, and the 6th room apologize publicly!”

Everyone was in an uproar!

Pat sneered: ”What if it’s really your plan that has a problem?”

The major was stunned for a moment and looked at Keren. As a top student of the Capital Military Academy who had risen swiftly through the ranks, Keren was fairly confident and would definitely not believe a lieutenant’s criticism. He firmly said, ”Impossible!”

The major, obviously looking up to Keren, immediately said, ”If our plan has a problem, we will kowtow and apologize to you. From now on, the 2nd room will avoid the 6th room!”

Tian Xingjian, who had been watching coldly, sneered and said, ”What is your position in the 2nd room? Can you represent everyone there?”

The major was dumbfounded, knowing he had spoken out of turn and not knowing how to backtrack, angrily saying, ”It’s none of your business! Anyway, you must kowtow!”

This major was rude and unreasonable. The people in the 6th room could no longer hold back, shouting curses. All the frustration they had accumulated surged forth. Some hot-headed staff began rolling up their sleeves, ready to fight.

The 2nd room’s staff, not willing to be outdone, knowing the bridges were burned, had no more restraint. The 6th room was already unpopular, and these staff members assumed other research rooms would be on their side. Even if things escalated today, the ones who would suffer would be the 6th room’s people.

Seeing a brawl about to break out, the 2nd room’s Director Compton hurriedly arrived. The Colonel, who had brought Fatty to the Combat Department, rushed to stand between the groups, urgently saying, ”What’s going on! No one is allowed to fight!”

Seeing the director arrive, the people from the 2nd room immediately quieted down, except for the major who was still a bit reluctant, snidely saying, ”Director, the 6th room’s lieutenant is bullying us.”

Unexpectedly, after catching his breath, Compton jumped up and scolded him first, ”What’s wrong with a lieutenant? A lieutenant is much better than you, you useless freeloader. Instead of properly researching plans, you come here to cause trouble. Get out!”

The major, scolded publicly by Compton until his face was red, stammered to retreat, only to be grabbed by Keren.

Keren said, ”Director, it’s not his fault. I asked them to accompany me. This lieutenant miscalculated my plan’s data.”

Compton angrily said, ”Even if it was wrong, you think you can come here to fight?” Turning to look at the composed Tian Xingjian, he said to Keren, ”Lieutenant Tian was personally assigned by the frontline command. You don’t realize your own worth. Do you think he would take on this job without the necessary skills?”

The major, being a fool, didn’t understand Compton’s implications and instead disdainfully said, ”Just a lieutenant, only fit for doing calculations in the 6th room. What’s so special about that?”

Compton felt his head swell, wanting to beat this fool severely and hang him up for three days and nights to evaporate the nonsense in his brain.

Compton found himself in a dilemma. The frontline command had ordered that Tian Xingjian’s identity as the author of the classic simulation should not be revealed. The people from the 2nd room were unyielding, and protecting their own was a tradition in the military. If they didn’t protect their own people but boosted the enemy’s morale, who would follow their command in the future?
