Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 104: Volume 3, Chapter 14 Inescapable

Thirteen girls were gathered in a room that had been temporarily installed with hidden cameras to capture all their emotional reactions.

They were called in one by one, with questions that had been pre-prepared, a common technique in criminal investigations. These combined questions were designed to judge the suspects’ psychology. Fatty had read similar introductions in ’Psychology.’ The inquiries were conducted by an elderly, very kind officer skilled in questioning, while the Constitutional Soldier Colonel sat menacingly to the side, occasionally slamming the table and shouting, ”You’re lying!”

Almost every girl was accused of lying by him, causing them to burst into tears.

Fatty, sitting quietly, meticulously observed the girls’ reactions while continuing to review the collected statements from all the girls.

The question of how the heavy gun and the energy burst device were brought in tormented him, refusing to leave his mind.

Suddenly, he flipped to a statement from one of the girls, paused as if something had struck him, and pulled out a few other statements for comparison. He discovered an issue.

Fatty quickly located the life teacher responsible for the entire dormitory and the officer in charge of security. Upon examining some documents, a suspect slowly surfaced!

Big White Rabbit!

When the pitiful Big White Rabbit was brought into the interrogation room, she was still crying.

Fatty kindly said, ”Yuliy, please tell us, where were you between 6:55 and 7:05?”

Big White Rabbit sobbed timidly, ”I was in Room 612 registering with some classmates, then I went to Room 611, also to register.”

Fatty squinted and asked in a kinder tone, ”Didn’t go anywhere else?”

Big White Rabbit shook her head and cried, ”No, I was just in those two rooms. My classmates can testify.”

This time, the Constitutional Soldier Colonel didn’t steal the spotlight; Fatty slammed the table first and said, ”You’re lying!”

Big White Rabbit was frightened into loud wails. Fatty ignored her, placing her statement in front of her, saying, ”Take a good look! Do you take us for fools?”

According to her statement, at the time of the incident, she was on the sixth floor registering students, which was confirmed by the life teacher. To strengthen management, the dormitory required a record of each student’s friends and family. This task was originally for the teacher, but Big White Rabbit volunteered to help.

The shooting occurred at exactly 7 PM. According to Big White Rabbit, she was in Room 611 on the sixth floor at the time, registering a few girls. The corner of Room 611 led to the rooftop stairs, from where the shooting position to Room 611 was only a few seconds’ run. Although digital clocks are precise, no one noticed exactly which seconds of the minute.

Before registering in Room 611, she had just walked out of Room 612 across the hallway, as testified by some girls from Room 611. She said her goodbyes at Room 612’s door, repeatedly saying ”goodbye, goodbye,” before entering Room 611 exactly at 7.

The discrepancy was in the testimony of a girl from Room 612. To be sure, Fatty carefully questioned this girl. She answered that she had an appointment at exactly 6, and Big White Rabbit came at 5:40. While filling out the forms, the girl was distracted, checking the time frequently. A few minutes before 6, they finished up, and she hurriedly took her bag and left the dorm with Big White Rabbit, saying ”bye” before heading downstairs.

So! How could it take two to three minutes to walk between rooms just across the hallway? Those two or three minutes were crucial. There was enough time from the shooting to return to Room 611!

Fatty almost immediately remembered Big White Rabbit carrying her luggage. That ten-kilogram heavy sniper rifle was likely hidden in the box! While observing the girls’ reactions carrying the gun, only one had the biggest reaction - Big White Rabbit; she kept crying. The extreme emotional expression could mask all other mood swings. Combining these situations, Big White Rabbit’s suspicion rose to the highest in Fatty’s mind.

Fatty pointed out all the suspicions about Big White Rabbit. He wanted to leave her no room to hide!

Big White Rabbit Yuliy was still crying, seemingly bewildered, asking, ”Wha... Officer, you say I had the time, but I really didn’t. You can’t just accuse me based on someone’s word! Perhaps she remembered wrong, girls in Room 611 can testify for me. I went straight into Room 611 after saying goodbye.”

Fatty sneered, ”You did say goodbye, but you dragged it two minutes!”

”No one in Room 611 saw you talking to anyone. You were acting. The other actor was thin air!”

Big White Rabbit trembled slightly and then cried loudly, ”It wasn’t me, it wasn’t! How could I possibly bring such a gun into the dorm?”

Fatty almost completely confirmed Big White Rabbit was the killer! Though crying, her thoughts were clear, grasping the critical points to refute.

Fatty laughed and said, ”The gun is heavy. Typically, luggage for girls is around 20-30 pounds. Didn’t you say your luggage weighed 50 pounds? We just weighed all your items; they totaled just over 20 pounds. I also asked your dormmates, and they didn’t see you eat 20 pounds of snacks or fruits! So, where did the remaining weight go?”

Big White Rabbit panicked, crying, ”That was a joke with the officer...”

Fatty angrily said, ”Bullshit! You’ve outsmarted yourself! Clearly, I saw you struggling with your luggage! Did you think playing dumb would clear all suspicion?”

Big White Rabbit still refused to admit, constantly crying, saying hoarsely, ”That gun... I recognize it. The energy burst device couldn’t be brought into the academy! We all had to pass the Energy Burst Device Detector scan upon entry! Even if I brought the gun, without the device, it wouldn’t work! Officer, you’ve falsely accused me...” She continued sobbing.

Fatty leered at Big White Rabbit’s chest and said, ”At first, I didn’t know how the device was brought in. Apart from being surrounded by living microwaves, there’s no way to hide it from scanners. Pets aren’t allowed, and the device can’t be swallowed.

He approached Big White Rabbit, fingers almost poking her breasts, and said with a lewd smirk, ”However, when I discovered your bust size went from 50 to 45, I understood how it was brought in! How about a female medic checks your breast, or should I do it personally?”

Hearing this, Big White Rabbit collapsed as if her bones were removed.

Fatty triumphantly slammed the table, his voice shaking the room, ”Let me tell you! Even perverts have their expertise! Not only can they measure busts but also solve cases!”

Fatty was basking in the admiring gazes of the old police officer and the Constitutional Soldier Colonel when he abruptly heard a report from a guard. Soldiers pursuing the killer in the back hills had found the enemy. The pursuit lasted less than three kilometers, with forty-six soldiers dead!
