Chapter 120: Volume 3 Chapter 29 Waiting for You to Come Back

?

Rashid laughed: ”Don’t be embarrassed, it’s not like you have to go yourself. If you’re really that embarrassed, I can talk to Deputy Tian for you. By the way, what’s that girl’s name again...”

Without thinking, Torick replied: ”Daisy.”

”Hahahaha!” The communication channel exploded with laughter. Only then did Torick realize he had fallen into a trap.

Rashid laughed so hard he doubled over: ”Yes, you indeed deserve to be a Special Reconnaissance Soldier. You’ve even reconnoitered her name. Daisy, this girl is good. Her chest dancing moves are quite skilled. No wonder your eyes keep shifting left and right when she dances.”

”Hahahaha!” Another burst of laughter erupted in the communication channel.

”Damn it!” Torick, blushing furiously, angrily piloted his mecha into the transport ship.

All sorts of incidents, drunken brawls, sudden madness among new recruits, jealousy fights, group brawls, etc., occurred frequently.

The detention room of the Constitutional Soldier Law Enforcement Team was almost full.

As combat readiness levels were upgraded, fewer and fewer soldiers had the chance to vent at bars. Especially the Army units landing in the first stage, they were ordered to stay in the camps, cancelling all outings.

Those who had vented enough earlier now did their best to encourage themselves. After all, everyone was going to the battlefield, no one wanted to be cowardly! If death comes, so be it! But just as they decided to brave it all, the attack plan was suddenly postponed on the eve of the offensive. The soldiers trapped in the camps became increasingly restless. Military commanders at all levels were anxious, seeing the situation; all kinds of reports flooded to the forward command, full of complaints, some indirect, some straightforward—all basically saying: if the waiting continues, control will be lost!

The President and Supreme Command Department, Admiral Mihailovich routinely issued inquiries, demanding explanations from the forward command. The reply was clear, aside from the President’s office being somewhat anxious about several urgent promotional activities to be conducted after the offensive, no one had raised objections. On the other hand, the Leray Federation’s acceptance of former Gazalin Empire Admiral Russell as the chief military advisor showed considerable tolerance, something Russell discussed with Hamid privately, finding it hard to imagine in the Gazalin Empire.

The forward command temporarily organized several large-scale morale-boosting performances for the first stage combat troops, while the training for the second stage landing soldiers was intensified so that these overly energetic guys wanted nothing more each day than to sleep, having no time for other thoughts.

In July 2061 of the New Era, as the fourth mixed fleet of the Leray Federation led several Imperial fleets and drew an arc in space, leaving the space jump point exit area of the Galileo Star System, the vanguard warships of the first and second mixed fleets of the Federation appeared at the Galileo Star System’s space jump point.

The Galileo Battle officially commenced.

As they were discussing which actress on stage had longer legs or which star sang better, all officers and soldiers of the 16th Armored Division of the Federation Air Marine Corps suddenly heard piercing emergency assembly calls. The originally leisurely yellow combat alert lights turned red, spinning rapidly and emitting ear-piercing screams. Almost simultaneously, every soldier’s record unit received the emergency assembly signal.

The vast military camp immediately erupted, people swiftly dispersing from the performance venue. Reporting sounds began echoing in front of each barrack. Mechas sped to the assembly point one after another, and the massive vibrations made the dazzling stage lights tremble. The stars performing on stage stared blankly at the scene; the young people who had been cheering for their performance turned into disciplined soldiers, none of them giving the stage a glance. Iron-clad camp, iron-clad soldiers!

Everyone knew, the war had started. They stood on stage, watching these soldiers standing straight as javelins, with eyes full of tears, knowing that once these young men left, few would return to cheer for them again!

The stage fell silent, the dazzling lights quietly extinguished at some point.

Soldiers who had finished forming ranks began their departure one by one.

The actors gazed dumbly at these young, energetic soldiers, walking one step at a time towards the battlefield, watching them turn from young men to resolute soldiers in an instant.

Someone started singing the old Federation song ”The Day of Victory, Waiting for Your Return”:

When I send you off.

I stare dumbly at the horizon.

Your figure sinks, my heart climbs with longing.

In my memory, you carry a gun with an unafraid smile.

When the artillery explodes by your ear, when bullets fly near you.

When you face fierce enemies, drawing your roaring long sword.

The smoke of war seems right in front of my eyes.

My heart, filled with unbearable pain.

I am already in tears.

No matter how long the war lasts.

I will wait for your return.

On the day we finally achieve victory.

No matter the disease, pain, poverty, turmoil,

I will wait for you to come back.

On the day of ultimate victory.

The stage lights turned on again, and the actors danced and sang with all their hearts and souls. The songs floated in the military camp, accompanying the last soldier as he walked out. Until the entire military camp was empty.

The camp was dead silent; tears finally burst out, and a group of beautiful girls cried together.

Rashid rubbed his eyes and muttered in the regional communication channel: ”Hey, these girls.”

A burst of carefree laughter echoed in the channel.

Rashid laughed: ”By the way, Torick, isn’t it true you fancy that girl in the green dress?”

A burst of laughter erupted, and Torick angrily retorted: ”Who said that! Who... who fancies her!”

Rashid chuckled mischievously: ”I didn’t see anything all night; I was just watching you! You stared at her without blinking once. Damn, don’t deny it.”

Torick fell silent, completely exposed.

Rashid laughed: ”Find a moment to ask Deputy Tian to relay a message for you, ask him to speak to that girl on your behalf.”

Torick felt a bit moved, thinking it would be safer for someone else to do it, but mumbled: ”You’re talking nonsense...”

Rashid laughed: ”Don’t be shy, it’s not like you have to do it yourself. If you can’t even handle this, I’ll ask Deputy Tian for you. By the way, what’s her name...”

Without thinking, Torick answered: ”Daisy.”

”Hahahahaha!” The communication channel exploded with laughter. Torick realized he had been tricked.

Rashid laughed so hard he nearly fell over: ”That’s a true Special Reconnaissance Soldier for you, even the name has been investigated. Daisy, this girl is nice, her chest movements are very skillful in dancing. Whenever she dances, your eyes keep shifting left and right, up and down.”

”Hahahaha!” Another burst of laughter erupted in the communication channel.

”Damn it!” Torick blushed, angrily controlling his mecha to board the transport ship.

Fatty first received the information sent by the Special Reconnaissance Group, they were on their way.

He was in a daze, not hearing Ann Lei calling him several times from beside him. Seeing him lost in thought, Ann Lei sat close to him, wrapped her arms around his and softly asked: ”What are you thinking?”

Smelling her hair fragrance, Fatty said dazedly: ”The Sixteenth Division has moved out, I don’t know how these guys will fare. Lucerne’s defense is very tight, and Russell is causing trouble at this time. Until now, I still don’t know the specific strategic plan.”

Ann Lei wrinkled her small nose and laughed: ”Yuna said this plan is very thorough, Admiral Bernadotte and Admiral Russell studied it for a long time before deciding on it. Moreover, the Federation’s military strength is now starting to take advantage.” She hesitated for a moment, finally saying: ”In the second phase, I will also follow the Intelligence Bureau to Lucerne.”

Fatty was startled and said nervously: ”What are you going there for?” Ann Lei turned her head indifferently: ”It’s my job.”

Fatty was about to ask more details when suddenly, his military communicator vibrated on his waist. It was a message from Russell, requiring Fatty to report to the command room immediately, the simulation assessment was beginning. Fatty clenched his teeth and stood up, grabbed some change of clothes, and left. He must figure out the strategic plan, understand the strength data of both sides; after all, the opposing commander is Liebgoet! He must understand what dangers are hidden in Lucerne, this beautiful planet named after a small town in ancient Earth’s Switzerland!

Just as he reached the academy gate, he encountered Big Head Karl, Fatty’s eyes lit up. This guy is a chatterbox, as long as it doesn’t violate confidentiality regulations, he will tell him almost anything. He often discusses battle situations with him when there’s nothing else to do. Speaking of combat plans from the Combat Department, who else would be clearer on the overall strategy than the guy responsible for simulation calculations?

Fatty plastered a big smile on his face and approached. Russell, you old ghost, you forbid me from inquiring in the Combat Department, but today at the academy gate, if I don’t inquire but someone insists on talking to me, you can’t control that, right?

Fatty reached Karl and patted his shoulder, smiling insincerely: ”Karl, have you been busy with work lately?”

Karl saw Fatty, grinned but didn’t say a word. Fatty found it strange, Karl said: ”I know what you want me to say. General Russell specifically ordered, anyone who tells you the strategic plan will be sent to the military court!”

Fatty froze, rage rising from his heart, bracing himself angrily and sinisterly approaching: ”What did you say?”

Karl trembled and whispered: ”General Russell knows we get along well, I’m in charge of the simulations, afraid you’d come to inquire about the news, specifically instructed me not to tell you!” After speaking, he looked at Fatty pitifully yet with smugness and said: ”Instructor, it’s not that I don’t want to help you. If you were the Marshal, I’d tell you!”

”Marshal!” Fatty felt helpless: ”If I were the Marshal, would I still be played like this?”
