Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 397: Chapter 263: We Have No Way Back

Su Huan was slightly surprised. Although Xiaozhao was relatively young among the chief stewards, being Professor Ma’s prized disciple, she was always steady and meticulous, never losing her composure.

This was the first time.

With curiosity, Su Huan walked over. On a pile of half-meter-high boxes, there was a corner of paper, as if torn from some document.

Four lines of words were written on it, perfectly filling the entire triangle.

The handwriting was bold and decisive, with no cursive, and three times the salutation at the beginning was crossed off.

”Comrade”

”Brother”

”Future generations”

All three salutations were crossed out, but for some reason, the writer insisted on the first salutation.

”Comrade—”

”If these supplies are intact, then use them.”

”Survive, strive with all your might to evolve.”

”We have no way out.”

There were only these three lines, and no other hints, not even a clue as to who the writer was.

Gazing at the brief note, Su Huan was as silent as a dead pond.

Yu Yue and others, hearing Xiaozhao’s shout, also ran over from various rooms.

Although curious, no one dared to glance at the paper, instead casting their eyes at the hesitant Xiaozhao.

”Can you see anything?”

Su Huan handed the paper to Vice President Deng, who had just arrived.

The latter scrutinized it for a long time and confidently said, ”The handwriting is not bad, at least past forty-five.”

The note circulated among the group, most of them confused by it.

”It doesn’t sound like the head of a laboratory, more like the military.”

Mountain Goat said hesitantly, passing the note to Qu Hang.

The latter didn’t take it, glancing at the content, ”If it’s the military, then it should be torn from a classified document. It must have been rushed at the time, so they wrote on this.”

Lu Xiao took it, examining it up and down for a while, puzzled, ”How can you tell?”

Qu Hang explained, ”The regular paper used in the military is also A4, only official documents have a header printed, with a seal beneath it, different colors for different classifications. Although this has no seal, there is a faint red on the torn edge.”

He then took out a military tactical flashlight, scanning the paper. Under ultraviolet light, the paper emitted points of fluorescence.

”This is a security feature, embedding colored fibers in the paper. Of course, many civilian papers have this too, so it proves nothing, just reasoning based on the premise of a military document.”

Lu Xiao lamented, ”How could I forget that?”

”Don’t be surprised, he used to work in an office, naturally sensitive to documents.”

Mountain Goat walked over, aligning the document for a better view, ”Train master, it certainly is possible.”

Vice President Deng questioned, ”An electromagnetic laboratory counts as a secure site. Having such documents is normal; even our high-speed rail manufacturing base has such paper. I’m not causing trouble, just saying the source of this note is questionable.”

”Is there a difference between the laboratory and the military?”

Hearing the voice, everyone looked up at the train master.

Su Huan calmly inserted the note into a logbook, ”Keep looking to see if there’s any other information left.”

Though there were many questions, everyone could see that the train master was not in a good mindset and silently went to perform their tasks.

A while later, more information began to converge.

A week before the apocalypse erupted, the military took over this laboratory, including the cutting-edge electromagnetic weapons, technology, and personnel.

Most of the information within the laboratory was intentionally preserved.

Including those valuable electromagnetic weapons research materials, as long as the hard drives were taken, along with relevant personnel, a fully armed train could replicate an electromagnetic weapons lab on board and continue research.

Even if they didn’t acquire finished weapons this time, the sheer amount of data and information was extremely valuable.

But after obtaining so much information, Su Huan fell into an even deeper confusion.

It was known at present that the organization and the military realized the apocalypse’s ”arrival” much earlier, training some major powers beforehand.

But if they’d decided to abandon them, why leave such a note?

Why leave so much equipment, and why say to use it?

Personal spur of the moment?

If they had this goodwill, why not issue a direct warning to society?

Placed in such a lab, before the apocalypse broke out, who could see it until order collapsed?

There was only one answer.

This note was meant for survivors after the apocalypse!

They didn’t want, nor could they afford, to let the public know the true nature of the apocalypse.

But Su Huan was like a three-year-old child, the more you cover it up, the more curious he became.

The more you don’t let him see, the more insistent he became on seeing.

”The kind of secret that can mobilize millions silently...”

”Truly mind-blowing.”

Su Huan’s pupils trembled, his fingers unconsciously spread wide open.

Hearing the train master’s laughter, everyone’s hearts tightened, and they concentrated more intently on their tasks.

...

On the water.

Mountain Goat and Li Han surfaced with an oxygen tank. The crew had already determined their position through broad-energy monitoring and locating equipment, bringing them back aboard as soon as they rose.

After a while, Lao San leisurely came out and glanced underwater.

The water surface was murky and black, waves rolling as if concealing terrifying monsters.

There was no trace of the Second Priest or the Third Priest.

”How are things?”

”They haven’t surfaced.”

”Bring them up as well.”

”Yes!”

Just as the exhausted Second Priest was about to be swallowed whole by a giant fish, a ready mechanical arm grabbed him up.
