Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 359: Chapter 244: Vortex

”Don’t shake!”

A deep voice rolled out from his throat.

But it was no use.

Listening to the waves battering the carriage and the low rumble of the train’s movement, Su Huan settled into the rhythm of the slight trembling.

He didn’t know how much time had passed when a vertigo sensation came over him, whispers appeared at his ears, as if someone were conspiring beside him.

Su Huan suddenly awoke, his eyes opened silently.

Cold light bloomed.

A terrifying sense of crisis enveloped him.

Just like that night hiding among the garbage ruins, confronting the hungry Evolution Beast.

Looking at the empty side of the bed, Su Huan gave a self-mocking smile.

’So complacent.’

In the past, even if someone left his side, he would notice even slight moves.

The recent comfortable life had gradually worn away his alertness.

Perhaps he also trusted his own abilities too much.

Because he had slept in his clothes, he didn’t need to dress, so he sat up directly, listening to the rhythmic footsteps echoing in the darkness. A silhouette came from the front of the train, outlined by the cabin’s nightlight.

”You look a bit flustered.”

Hearing Su Huan’s voice behind her, Shu Wei’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly recovered, turning around with a touch of gravity saying, ”The train has encountered real trouble.”

”Trouble?”

When Su Huan came to the front of the train again and saw the enormous vortex on the water’s surface, he tried hard to recall what the situation was before he fell asleep.

”We are on land now, right?”

Even though there were over forty people crammed into the whole train head, Su Huan’s words were still pin-drop silent.

Accompanied by the aerial view of the drone rising once more, the large spotlight on the drone pierced the rainy curtain, shining on the clockwise swirling water below. The terrifying vortex seemed to be pressed by an invisible hand, sinking suddenly within a hundred-meter range, and this range was gradually expanding in rotation.

The water in the middle of the vortex was noticeably deeper than the surroundings.

The surrounding seawater bulged, forming a steep arc-shaped water wall.

A small train was ”striving to approach” this wall.

Even through the thick carriage walls, everyone could hear the roaring and bellowing of the waves outside.

”We’ve reached Jingchao Lake.”

It was Liang Kuan who answered.

His deep voice was like a large bell, breaking the stagnant atmosphere, making the chest itch.

Xiaozhao reacting, hurriedly said, ”Before the apocalypse, Jingchao Lake’s greatest depth during the wet season was only fifty-three meters, but now it has increased at least twenty meters, nearly seventy meters deep, and it’s not a sunken deepwater lake. Logically, it shouldn’t form a vortex...”

Xiaozhao started a multiparty video call, where Director Xu, Professor Ma, and other experts appeared on screen one after another.

Su Huan placed his hand on the railing, converting the terrifying energy into electricity injected into the generator.

The booster shrieked, all engines in the train overloaded simultaneously.

The train’s running speed doubled by sheer force.

From the fuzzy image displayed, the train appeared to approach the vortex at a slower speed.

Seeing no way to break free, Su Huan frowned, ”What will happen if we can’t break free and are pulled into the vortex?”

In the carriage, everyone, including glasses-wearers, looked toward these experts.

Although some already formed their own judgments, they still hoped to hear a different assessment from those at the peak of knowledge and experience.

Even if hope was slim.

After a long time, the director said softly, ”Though we’ve considered some extreme scenarios, it still doesn’t change the fact that the connections between carriages are weak points...”

”You can go directly to the result.”

”If pulled in, the armed train will be torn into fragments, one piece at a time.”

Su Huan squinted slightly, ”Then what about sinking?”

...

Carriage No. 4.

A wheelchair positioned in front of the window, beside it stood a small figure.

”Xiaoba brother, I’m a little scared.”

Xiaoba withdrew his gaze from afar, pulling down the nearby metal blinds, covering the terrifying scene of natural disaster outside.

He lit the warm light in the room, gently touching the little boy’s head.

”Xiaoba brother, will we die?”

The little boy’s tiny hands tightly gripped the outer ring of Xiaoba’s wheelchair.

Xiaoba was just about to say no, then he heard the little boy dejectedly say, ”If I die, Mom won’t see me when she comes back.”

The boy’s voice was childish, with sincerity.

Xiaoba seemed to be shocked, his tongue pressed against his upper jaw, taking a deep breath.

Trying to make his smile a bit sunnier.

”No, there’s still the conductor.”

”Is the conductor very powerful?”

”Omnipotent!”

”Then can he help bring my mom here?”

Little stars lit up in the boy’s eyes.

Xiaoba was silent for a moment by this question.

Not knowing how to answer.

The conductor could take your mom away, but probably didn’t have the power to bring her back.

”As long as you save enough points, your mom can return!”

After hesitating for a moment, Xiaoba gave an insincere answer.

The little boy instantly became happy, excitedly circling Xiaoba’s wheelchair, shouting, ”Great! When I grow up, I’ll work hard to save enough points, then when Mom comes back, she can hug me and Xiaoba brother.”

Xiaoba stood there in a daze, his eyes vacant.

A stream of silent tears glided down the corner of his eyes.

Returning to his senses, he clumsily wiped his face with a small hand, ”Xiaoba brother, why are you crying, I know you don’t have a mom, so my mom will be your mom by then...”

”Click——”

The room door opened, Wan Xing, wearing a large coat, appeared mysteriously at the doorway.

Looking at the two pairs of eyes staring at her from inside, she lifted the corners of her mouth, ”Do you need me to hug you both?”
