Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 382: Chapter 255: Everyone Has Their Labor

For a precise shooter, they need to carry less, but they must help the machine gunners carry ammunition belts or parts of heavy machine guns.

A basic team consists of five people, ensuring each person’s load is around sixty kilograms.

However, the post-apocalyptic environment has new demands for soldiers.

The team also needs to have ”Gatherers” who collect high-value materials; if they hunt any mutant beasts in the wild, these high-value materials must be brought back.

Those mutant beasts or mutated plants are bulky.

So it’s common for individual soldiers to carry more than eighty kilograms.

In such a situation, carrying several hundred kilograms of logs for dozens of kilometers on a military drill is simply exhausting.

Those who fainted were woken up, only to faint again upon hearing the task.

But how could He Jie let them off?

If one person in a team faints, the other four not only have to carry the log but also carry a teammate on it.

Watching their four teammates beneath leaving bloodstains with each step, even those who are truly faint would grit their teeth and continue.

Out of five hundred soldiers, only three ended up being carried on the logs.

One of them was a mongoose.

Although her wounds were simply treated, the internal injuries inflicted by He Jie wouldn’t heal anytime soon.

Her entire body lost consciousness.

But next to her team was Pang Tu, so He Jie wasn’t worried about the mongoose dying.

Before evolving, Pang Tu had already learned level 2 battlefield first aid.

He alone could reach the level of a frontline medical station, capable of amputation, blood transfusion, and infection control.

As for level 3 and above, which involves thoracotomy, abdominal surgery, and organ transplants, that’s the job for field and rear hospitals, soldiers don’t need to learn that much.

By this time, the sky was already bright, and the cold wind blew on their faces.

One by one, the sleepy soldiers had tears streaming down their faces due to the wind.

”The seven-day special training officially begins!”

Looking at the prepared crowd, He Jie stood on a boulder and shouted.

The soldiers below turned around and were about to advance when they heard He Jie sneer, ”Only concerned about running yourselves? Are you not going to look after your commander?”

The soldiers looked at each other at He Jie standing on the rock.

A minute later.

Five hundred soldiers began marching eastward.

He Jie crossed his arms, standing on the boulder, with ten armed soldiers below biting on their teeth so hard they might crush them.

...

While He Jie was putting the soldiers through the wringer, Su Huan brought Shu Wei to carriage number 11.

Before they could enter, they were stopped by a graceful figure.

Silver hair cascaded past her waist, resting on a white silk long dress.

As the girl personally rescued by the conductor, Lin Jin’s younger sister, Lin Xi was almost the only person on the train wearing a dress.

Because of her lifespan issue, Yu Yue and others were quite fond of her and rarely assigned her tasks.

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, ”What’s up?”

It’s been a busy time, and given Lin Xi’s special abilities, there’s been no time to figure out how to use her.

Lin Xi nodded.

Su Huan gestured, and Shu Wei withdrew his gaze from the young girl and entered carriage number 12.

Su Huan took a step back with Lin Xi and arrived at the second floor of Yu Jing’s carriage number 10.

Yu Jing should be outside, busy with train repairs, so the entire second floor was empty.

”Why are you looking for me instead of making dumplings?”

Su Huan knew the girl wasn’t as innocent and shy as she appeared, so he just asked directly.

Lin Xi lifted her delicate face, her smile sweet, ”Conductor, may I request a job?”

”A job?” Su Huan was taken aback; he had thought of many reasons, but not this one.

”Any job is fine.”

Su Huan leaned against the window, stretching his tall body, a faint playful smile on his lips, ”Trying to gain favor with empty hands?”

Feeling the unsavory thoughts flashing through Su Huan’s mind, the girl’s sweet smile stiffened a bit.

Given their gap, as long as Su Huan didn’t let her see, she definitely couldn’t guess his inner thoughts; obviously, he was purposely teasing her.

Lin Xi was a bit shocked, ”It’s just an ordinary job, does it require getting in through the back door?”

Seeing she was serious, Su Huan collected some of his playful demeanor.

”Tell me, what are you interested in doing?”

Lin Xi twisted a strand of her silver hair, contemplating for a moment, ”I’m not sure, but I don’t want to interrogate prisoners...”

Watching her toy with her hair so skillfully, Su Huan grew curious about its texture, and grabbed a strand to wrap around his fingertips and knead it.

It was cool, like silver threads, and felt quite nice.

Lin Xi’s eyes widened slightly, and thinking of needing a favor, she pouted and endured.

”What specific abilities do you have right now?”

”The ’Gatherer’ is currently Tier One ’Cartographer.’ The ’Manipulator’ is currently Tier One ’Perception Synchronization.’

Lin Xi explained her occupations.

A job Su Huan was indeed familiar with was the latter one.

This manipulated ability was a bit strange.

Unlike other manipulators who can master a particular thing, ”Perception Synchronization” is somewhat akin to a ”Seed of Hatred,” an ability to grasp abstract concepts.

She can control her own perception, such as reducing her sense of pain or enhancing a particular sense, and similarly, she can enhance another person’s senses.

We often feel that only we can truly understand what we feel, with no one able to empathize.

But this ability can adjust the perceptions of two different people to synchronize.

It’s not a weak ability, though its direct impact on combat power isn’t much.

”Is the next stage of ’Perception Synchronization’ called ’Empathy Web’?”

Su Huan asked uncertainly.

Lin Xi, surprised, nodded, ”I have not fully developed this occupation’s ability; how did you know that?”

Su Huan closed off his mind, giving her an enigmatic look.

He not only knew the second stage name but also that the third stage was called ”Group Resonance.”

Unfortunately, as always, there was no fourth stage.

”What is a ’Cartographer,’ and how does it differ from Su Reya’s profiling?”

”She infers past events; I profile the mind. Currently, I’ve fully evolved this ability’s Tier Two capacity, though I haven’t reached the criterion for Tier Two elevation. What do you think sounds nice?”

With no one around, Lin Xi spoke quite a lot in one go.

”Mental profiling? Lingxi...singer?”

Su Huan casually suggested a few while pondering what Lin Xi could do.

Lin Xi’s eyes shone slightly, ”Let’s call it ’Soul Singer.’ Brother Su Huan is amazing; Director Xu thought for a long time without coming up with a name, but Brother Su Huan thought of one instantly.”

”Pfft!”

Su Huan tugged at her hair, watching her gaze of admiration shifting subtly to disdain.

Perhaps due to being an experimental subject, this girl was good at hiding.

But due to the similarity as Genetic Primordials, Lin Xi always showed her true self in front of him.

”That’s too much; taking advantage and providing emotional value, asking for a little job isn’t too much?”

Su Huan pinched her face, rich in collagen, and said lightly, ”When it’s time, I’ll talk to Yu Jing to give you an assistant-like job, but since you wanted it yourself, show the right attitude. Do less than you should, and I’ll throw you into Director Xu’s lab to fry bones for oil.”

Because of their genetic attraction, Lin Xi could sense Su Huan was serious about this.

Here with him, an exchange was the fundamental rule.

Once in the proper position, one should complete the task earnestly.

Lin Xi nodded, ”Can you let go of my face now?”

...

Carriage number 12.

Professor Ma and his students cleared a considerable area inside the cramped carriage.

A stone with a soil smell, about one cubic meter, was placed in the middle.

Around it were Professor Ma’s latest research achievements, a communication device linking two train cars.

As Professor Ma tinkered with the equipment, he explained things to his students, with Xiaozhao personally recording alongside.

Shu Wei summarized the results on a tablet.

Suddenly, an unexpected message popped up on the tablet.

Looking at the symbol representing internal communication from Black Kite.

Pale fingertips paused for a moment before pressing on it.
