Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 393: Chapter 261: Trench Breaker

”I had them help me make these, it’s such a waste to throw away these tin cans, they can be used for growing flowers.”

Yu Yue explained softly, her voice gentle, as if she was afraid of disturbing something.

”Boring, He Jie, what did you write in that report?”

Su Huan turned to He Jie, who was beside him.

He Jie placed the tin can he had molded aside, ”It’s about the career promotion issues in the Armed Corps.”

Su Huan’s forehead veins pulsed, ”You wrote me a stack of reports just for this?”

Luckily, I backed off when I saw that pile of paper.

He Jie sat cross-legged, a grin on his face, ”It’s called professionalism. By the way, did you even read a single word?”

Su Huan accepted the cup Yu Yue handed him, took a sip, and it was sweet with a hint of grapefruit aroma.

”Didn’t read a word.”

”Should’ve known not to waste time; Qu Hang wrote all night for nothing yesterday.”

He Jie clicked his tongue.

Su Huan hadn’t read it, but Shu Wei definitely did.

As a personal secretary, she had to provide accurate responses and suggestions to whatever the train conductor asked, so even if something undesirable came her way, she’d have to taste it thoroughly.

He Zhenzhen, sitting beside them, was in a daze.

This was her first time listening in on her father and the train conductor’s discussions about major train issues.

She thought it would be a spirited debate, full of eloquent arguments, each word carrying firm determination, deciding the lives of thousands and the continuation of human civilization.

Even if not that intense, the conversation should at least be full of insightful wisdom and hidden meanings.

She didn’t expect the real scene to be two societal misfits discussing how to slack off together.

”By the way, how is my career path arranged?”

He Jie asked directly.

Speaking of business, Su Huan’s quirky expressions all disappeared, and he became like a Greek god sculpture, handsome and profound.

”Wasn’t the direction originally arranged for you by the Steel Council as ’Master of Firearms’?”

”Yes, it’s about supplementing heavy firepower, low mobility, strong output, suitable for my strategic command positioning. When I discussed it with Director Xu, he said your ’Furious Veteran’ was also good, but didn’t know if there was a follow-up, so he asked me to check with you.”

He Jie said attentively.

Su Huan stirred the candied grapefruit rind in his cup, ”I have both paths, but the highest is only Tier Three.”

He Jie rubbed his smooth chin, ”Tier Three, huh, that’s enough; I heard Director Xu say Tier Three is a hurdle.”

”Oh, he knows about that too, right. Knowing about vitality, it’s not hard to deduce this conclusion through reverse reasoning...”

”Lack of vitality, can’t you just eat pears?”

Su Huan glanced at him, though the crude words were not spoken, his gaze clearly conveyed them.

’You’re dreaming,’ it said.

He doesn’t even have enough pears for himself; who knows how many it would take for them to break through Tier Three.

”There’s not just vitality to consider, but also basic attributes and skill level issues... However, that’s not important. What’s your opinion on the ’Furious Veteran’ career path? Can you accept it?”

He Jie pondered for a moment, ”I think it’s good. Compared to the ’Master of Firearms,’ who can only command from the rear, I prefer to charge at the front.”

”If that’s the case, choosing ’Furious Veteran’ is pretty good; the follow-up for this career is called ’Trench Breaker.’”

Su Huan smiled and said.

In his past life, He Jie’s fame was earned by breaking through enemy lines with his firearms.

Once he advanced to Tier Three as a ’Master of Firearms,’ he hardly had the chance to be on the frontline, mostly taking on battlefield command roles at the rear.

Su Huan speculated that this was also a significant reason why He Jie found it hard to break through for a long time.

Hearing the words ”Trench Breaker,” He Jie’s eyes lit up, ”This is it, sounds exciting.”

”This path heavily depends on weaponry; don’t even think about using the heavy machine guns we have on the train.”

”Anti-aircraft guns won’t work either?”

”It’s not about the power; it’s about the ammunition. How many bullets loaded with gunpowder can you carry? Even if you can handle them, there’s no time to load them.”

Su Huan shook his head.

He Jie realized, ”So it’s about electromagnetic weapons, but don’t they need charging?”

”Of course, they need to be modified.”

In his past life, the Steel Council obviously didn’t have this type of career path, but Su Huan had seen it when cooperating with other forces.

All the electromagnetic weapons used were modified; users could directly infuse energy into them, which then converted into power, saving the hassle of using charging packs.

Prior to the apocalypse, research on ammunition for electromagnetic weapons had advanced to unknown levels.

For example, the ’City Breaker’ on the train makes it seem huge, but the actual projectile is just a tiny piece, making it much easier to produce and carry compared to traditional gunpowder bullets.

”Then let’s go with this.”

He Jie nodded decisively and continued.

”During our research these past few days, we unanimously agreed that the ’Firepower Hand’ career must be preserved. Though it relies on logistics, it’s easy to shape, has good combat effectiveness, and is cost-effective. After hearing about your suggestions for the follow-up direction, we can cultivate it as a team core, which makes me even more inclined to keep it.”

”It doesn’t have to be a ’Firepower Hand’; any career that can maintain suppressive fire will do.”

”You’re thinking in terms of the standard five-man squad configuration, right?”

”Yes.”

Su Huan considered. Although ’Firepower Hand’ as a gunman-focused career was somewhat overdone, mainstream meant stable combat power and could hold the baseline.

He Jie: ”According to pre-apocalyptic configurations, it’s mostly about having an assault, firepower, and precision shooter, plus a medic. Usually, there are two assault members; sometimes it changes, adding an anti-armor or swapping the precision shooter for a sniper, covering close, far, special operations, and a certain level of logistics.”
