Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 310: Chapter 222: Epitaph

The weather, which had managed to stay bright for two days, turned gloomy again.

A wave crashed over, instantly overturning a small boat made of woven plastic bottles, pushing it towards Li Han as it surged.

But he merely lifted his eyelids and continued to lower his head to punch holes in the wooden board with a homemade hole puncher.

After drilling out the holes, he knocked small wooden sticks into them, covering the two connected panels on the half-finished cabin at the bow.

It occupied two-thirds of the iron boat’s area in total.

The small stove in the cabin was still boiling hot water with a bubbling sound.

Despite the overcast sky, the small boat cabin, and the iron stove’s hot water being somewhat thin, they gave him a sense of security.

”Splash...”

The surging waves reached within five meters of the iron boat but were gradually reduced by an unknown force, ultimately turning into a weak wave that dispersed at the boat’s edge.

If one looked closely into the water, they could see a faintly visible plant forming a net-like pattern beneath the iron boat.

Significantly enhancing the iron boat’s ability to withstand wind and waves.

”Bang!”

A dull sound rang out at the bow.

Li Han looked up to see a pair of sturdy military boots stepping on the wooden planks of his boat’s bow. Looking further up, he saw Mongoose clutching her left arm with her right hand, drops of fresh blood falling from her fingertips.

”Save the person first.”

Mongoose’s voice was slightly hoarse.

”It’s okay now.”

There was a hint of brightness in Li Han’s eyes.

The green plant net had, at some point, lifted the unfortunate person who had fallen into the water, pushing him back onto his bottle raft.

A tall plant extending from the iron boat even pushed the raft a little further away.

”Thank you.”

Seeing that the person was safe, Mongoose sighed in relief.

She was responsible for everyone in this area. Although that person fell into the water by his own mistake and not due to a mutant beast attack, if someone was missing during the night check, that bastard He Jie wouldn’t give her a chance to explain.

”Your injury?”

”It’s fine, it will heal on its own in a while.”

Mongoose withdrew her gaze and looked at the iron boat.

Inside the iron boat leaned a clay pot about the size of a wash basin, filled with some damp soil. A branch as thick as a corn stalk stood in it, wrapped with green vines like iron wire, the end of the vine extending into the water, resembling a fishing rod hanging from the boat’s edge.

Just now, Li Han had used this vine to push the person’s raft away.

”Is this... a branch of that Crown Pear tree?”

At these words, Li Han gave a bitter smile. During this time, he hadn’t wasted time; apart from figuring out a way to exchange for daily food, he was also exploring how to use his abilities.

Besides the Crown Pear tree branch, he had acquired three types of plants. The first was the plant net underwater, which he called [Tangled Algae], capable of being woven into a large net floating beneath the boat through the ability ”Plant Affinity.”

[Tangled Algae] didn’t require extra feeding, surviving on the microorganisms in water and was tough in texture.

Placed under the boat, it could help capture surrounding resources.

The second was the vine coiled around the tree branch, which he had scavenged from nearby buildings, along with the clay pot.

But the most frustrating was this Crown Pear tree branch. Though the branch was very resilient, for some reason, no matter how he transplanted it, it continued to wither.

”Yes, but the branch merely looks alive; in reality, it hasn’t taken root.”

Li Han sighed, then seemed to think of something and turned to fetch a small jar from the small cabin.

Then he scooped some into a glass, poured in some hot water, and handed it to Mongoose across from him.

Looking at the steaming cup, Mongoose was briefly stunned, ”Tea leaves?”

”Yes.”

Li Han stepped aside, revealing the cabin behind him, not filled with clutter but with a neatly folded quilt and a pot of tea tree.

”This is what I exchanged for seeds from the train, then cultivated.”

Mongoose’s pupils widened to the size of saucers.

To cultivate a seed into an edible tea tree in three days, and thinking of the train’s farm’s fruit and vegetable store that opened once a week, this person is definitely a talent!

”Are you sure it only took three days?”

Seeing her surprise, Li Han hesitated for a moment and then nodded seriously.

”Great, Li Han, perhaps you won’t have to stay on this iron boat tonight!”

Mongoose’s weariness eased slightly.

Li Han realized at once, his face slightly filled with excitement. Despite the short span of days, he had developed a whole new understanding of the armed train’s strength, knowing that living till now wasn’t luck but because of Mongoose.

He had witnessed with his own eyes how strong Mongoose was.

Two days ago, a mutant zombie, [Water Ghost], had suddenly emerged from the water, slicing open an iron boat, but Mongoose and her team seemed prepared, surrounding it as soon as it surfaced and swiftly eliminating it.

Through the train’s complimentary introduction over the past days, Li Han had acquired a whole new understanding of the apocalypse.

He knew how formidable Tier One Zombies were.

But according to Mongoose, she was just the lowest-ranking reserve on the train.

The strength of the armed train instantly seemed unfathomable to Li Han.

As long as he joined the armed train, he could escape this perilous situation.

However, thinking of He Jie’s mocking demeanor towards Mongoose, Li Han hesitated, ”Could it be too optimistic?”

Maybe the way Mongoose mentioned was like the Crown Pear tree branch.

Requiring a certain price.

Since understanding the train’s points system, he had a more straightforward impression of the purchasing power of points.
