Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 307: Chapter 221: Bite the Hook, Not the Bait (Part 2)

He was quite lucky, awakening the ”Manipulator” field ability called ”Plant Affinity” on the spot, which made the soldier register him with more than one glance.

Could this skill be very powerful?

However, no one came looking for him afterward, including that woman named Mongoose.

It seemed to be just average.

Yesterday, they were neither allowed to enter the train nor driven off.

The soldiers issued them each a mat to sleep on the deck.

Someone became an Evolver in the ”Defender” field, able to dent a metal barrel with a punch, wanting to rest inside the train.

But was beaten into a pulp by unarmed soldiers, hung in a sack on the edge, and within less than half an hour, accompanied by a shrill scream, was bitten in half by something from the water, leaving only half a thigh hanging there.

The remaining survivors were horrified to discover a fact, that even the most ordinary soldier or worker on the train.

Are all Evolvers!

No one dared to question He Jie’s orders anymore.

Li Han’s stomach growled thunderously at this thought.

A huge sense of hunger surged up suddenly.

It hadn’t usually been this hungry.

It’s just that yesterday’s two pieces of chocolate and a cup of water had activated his taste buds.

”You have one minute to stand in front of me.”

The burly man, as big as a bear, came again yesterday.

Hearing his voice, Li Han instinctively remembered the experience of brushing past Death God yesterday and quickly stood up.

He Jie naturally recognized him.

”Not bad, Kitty didn’t pull you up in vain.”

He Jie grinned, his glaring white teeth like a menacing grizzly, eerie and mysterious.

Li Han’s scalp tightened as his gaze fell behind He Jie, where soldiers brought some iron-skinned boats three meters long and one meter wide, and lots of ropes.

But there weren’t many, just over thirty boats, and the rest were like raft materials, pieced together from wooden scraps, some were lifeboats, and the rest looked like junk, like half a car shell that had been cut, with water stains hanging on it as if it had just been fished out of the water.

And some odd bits and pieces, like fishing rods and empty mineral water bottles.

”According to the order you gathered just now, you may choose your boat. For the next while, you’ll be staying on the water.”

As He Jie finished speaking, a clamor erupted among the crowd.

Li Han also felt a chill run down his spine.

Stay on the floodwaters?

Relying on these little iron boats?

Not to mention the monsters under the water; if the waves get any bigger, they’d drown, right?

Even if they all awakened their evolutionary abilities, they couldn’t survive, not to mention those who just awakened. Even someone as strong as Chen Lei didn’t dare to go into the water.

But Li Han didn’t rashly question, he quietly awaited He Jie’s next words.

Seeing the clamor gradually subside, and with no one daring to voice doubt directly, He Jie sighed in disappointment and cursed them as cowards.

He Jie first explained the train’s point system, emphasizing the resources that could be exchanged.

Then he talked about what everyone needed to do—usually hanging alongside the train to collect floating debris, exploring the surrounding waters and constructions, and when the train had work, they could receive construction tasks; all these activities could accumulate points.

”Once you accumulate a thousand points, you can earn a spot on the train.”

This statement, in particular, made the survivors, Li Han included, brighten up.

Seeing everyone’s spirits uplifted, He Jie didn’t ramble on before serving meals directly.

The logistics team brought up a large bucket of meat porridge, filling each person with a bowl.

When Li Han saw the full bowl of thick meat porridge in his hands, it no longer felt shocking.

With the armed train’s strength, it’s only natural to gather more resources.

Despite wanting to gulp it down, the scalding porridge made him sip it cautiously.

Once the bowl of meat porridge settled in his stomach, Li Han felt alive again.

Then, guided by the soldiers, they began choosing their boats.

Each person could choose only one boat, a rope, and two miscellaneous items.

The first two choices were easy; Li Han chose an iron-skinned boat and a thick rope.

As for the last two miscellaneous items, Li Han was a bit unsure.

He wanted to pick the fishing rod, but felt the mutated plants were subtly attracting him.

’Almost forgot about my ability.’

Realizing this, Li Han recalibrated with his ”Plant Affinity” to sense his surroundings.

His gaze unconsciously fell on the giant trunk on the distant deck.

”You want that tree?”

A puzzled voice came from behind.

Turning back, Li Han saw that Mongoose was still wearing a baggy dark green combat uniform, but as it rained today, she added a darker raincoat over it, knee-length.

She differed little from the soldiers around.

(The armed train’s old military uniform style was obtained from an armory.)

Li Han tentatively asked, ”Is it possible?”

Mongoose frowned, ”Of course not, but a branch might be possible. If you’re sure, I can apply for you.”

Feeling the strong attraction from the tree, Li Han nodded firmly, ”I’m sure.”

”Alright, wait here.”

Mongoose walked towards He Jie.

Soon, He Jie’s mocking voice echoed across the deck.

”Is this using privilege for your little boyfriend? It’s possible, but the lacking points will be deducted from your salary.”

Mongoose remained calm, knowing He Jie wouldn’t miss the chance to jab at her, so her mindset was steady.
