Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 309: Chapter 221: Bite the Hook, Not the Bait (Part 4)

The big boss isn’t going home, so Qu Hang, Mountain Goat, Lu Xiao, and Tong Zizhan naturally have to follow suit.

Footsteps came from behind. He Jie was just about to curse to vent a bit.

Then he heard a sweet voice say, ”Dad.”

He quickly turned his head and saw his daughter in a dress walking over, his face instantly broke into a wide smile like Old Gao.

”Zhenzhen, why did you come here? Don’t come over, it’s slippery here. I’ll go over to you!”

He Jie took two steps and was beside his daughter.

He Zhenzhen pouted and said, ”You haven’t come home for dinner for days, so Mom asked me to bring you some food.”

He Jie took the lunch box, his old face blooming like a flower with a smile, but soon he put on a stern face and said, ”You two don’t need to worry about it. Once I’m done with work, I’ll come home. Also, don’t come up here next time; it’s windy and slippery here. What if you fall into the water?”

”So grumpy...”

He Zhenzhen muttered, ”Well, eat up then. I’m going back down.”

”Yeah, go on down.”

He Jie gobbled down the food and watched his daughter leaving.

But after a while, he felt something was wrong. Isn’t she supposed to be going inside the carriage?

How did she end up on the deck?

Who was responsible for guarding that section?

As he was thinking, He Jie’s eyes widened like bells.

”Damn! Qu Hang!”

He Zhenzhen didn’t know her dad was already fuming mad.

Her lively eyes glanced at the shadowy edge, spotting Qu Hang who was holding a sniper rifle, with his presence barely noticeable.

She quickly walked over, the corners of her black long skirt fluttering.

Qu Hang, who was dozing off, moved his ears and looked somewhat puzzled.

Why is He Jie cursing at him early in the morning?

He lifted his eyelids and saw He Zhenzhen walking towards him.

”Why are you here?”

The girl had a faint smile on her face, holding a food box in her hand, ”I came to bring my dad food, but my mom cooked too much. I thought he couldn’t finish it all, and we’ve already eaten; it would be a waste to take it back, so I brought it for you.”

An expression of surprise flickered in Qu Hang’s eyes, but he didn’t expose the girl.

Of course, his teacher wouldn’t do something that could cause misunderstandings.

Seeing the anticipation in the girl’s eyes, Qu Hang swallowed back his refusal and took the lunch box.

”Thanks.”

”Mm, then enjoy your meal. I’m heading back.”

With that, He Zhenzhen didn’t linger and turned to head back to the carriage.

Just as Qu Hang was about to open the lunch box, he felt an eerie gaze upon him, so he lifted his eyelids, and sure enough, He Jie was standing above, glaring at him with a dark expression.

Once He Zhenzhen’s figure disappeared, He Jie jumped down with a fierce expression and snatched the lunch box from Qu Hang’s hands.

He opened it, sneered, and said, ”Even got a chicken leg? What level do you think you are? Eating the same meal as me?!”

Qu Hang wasn’t really short of this meal. As one of the few senior officers on the armed train, he too could eat with the train captain in the dining car, with plenty of rice and meat.

But seeing He Jie holding the half-eaten meal with his right hand, he couldn’t resist asking, ”Didn’t the colonel say it couldn’t be finished?”

He Jie glared, ”Get lost! Who said I couldn’t finish it? I’m having a double portion, what’s it to you?”

”Got nothing to do? How about I find you some work?”

”Remember this, kid. Stay away from my daughter, and don’t you even think about my wife!”

’That’s not what you said last time.’

Seeing He Jie getting unreasonable, Qu Hang shrugged, turned around, and jumped onto the locomotive.

Getting beaten over a meal that’s neither here nor there isn’t worth it.

Having experienced so much since the end of days, Qu Hang’s feelings for his teacher had long faded.

However, he couldn’t say that.

If he did, He Jie wouldn’t believe it and would think he was adding fuel to the fire.

(Feeling kind of unlucky, caught a cold and had a fever, slept for a day. This place doesn’t agree with me, always getting food poisoning or a stomach bug. But I’ve hit the 6k mark, 4k normal updates will resume tonight.)
