Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chen Lei looked at the handsome and peaceful young man before him, a trace of confusion flashing in his eyes.

He hadn’t even called ”start”, and... lost?

He didn’t even see how many enemies there were before a flying shield knocked him out. By the time he woke up, he was kneeling on the deck, half of his body faintly aching as if trampled by an elephant.

The young man’s lips moved as if he was speaking, but why couldn’t he hear any sound?

His ears were buzzing continuously?

He Jie pointed at Chen Lei, who was kneeling at the center, ”It should be him. He has a level three ’Earth Affinity’ skill, capable of manipulating sand and dust, but couldn’t use it in time. Old Liang took him down directly, seems like he got deafened.”

”Deafened?” Su Huan frowned, no wonder no one answered him, ”Well, have someone apologize properly, then take him down to be executed.”

He Jie scratched his head, ”So particular...”

He tossed the heavy machine gun to the soldier beside him, then stepped forward, grabbed Chen Lei by the neck, leaping onto a nearby train. He whispered a couple of words into his ear, pulled the grenade pin from Chen’s mouth, and kicked him off.

The water splashed open from the heavy impact, making a plop, followed by a dull thud.

Everyone on the deck looked at this brutal scene and instantly felt despair, especially the few skinny men kneeling in front, who started trembling.

Chen Lei’s evolutionary ability was the strongest among them.

Although most of the Flood Zone was underwater, they still lived in buildings above the water’s surface.

In such a situation, Chen’s ability was ridiculously powerful.

With just a thought, he could make the entire building beneath you collapse.

No place to run.

But who would’ve thought the armored train would be so fierce; they hadn’t even had a chance to act before feeling suffocated.

Then they were defeated and captured.

Su Huan clapped his hands, causing everyone’s heart to skip a beat from fright.

”Alright, tell me who’s the next in charge?”

Before He Jie could point, everyone’s gaze fell on the skinny man at the edge.

Even with the chilly breeze on the deck, cold sweat broke out on the latter’s forehead.

”Pa!”

A hand landed on his shoulder, with Su Huan crouching before him with a smile, ”So it’s you, huh? What do you think of my subordinates? Any chance you could take them down?”

The skinny man suddenly froze, his pupils slightly dilating.

So they knew!

How did they know?

Su Huan seemed slightly displeased with his reaction, ”Why aren’t you speaking? Forgot to help you with this.”

Before the skinny man could react, Su Huan had already pulled the grenade pin from his mouth.

Seeing the metal ring spinning in his hand, the skinny man felt a soul-chilling fear.

He didn’t care about the surrounding gun barrels anymore, desperately prying the grenade from his mouth with both hands, tearing at the corners of his mouth until they split and bled. Before he could throw the grenade away, a ”boom” sounded.

Bright flames flashed before his eyes, then vanished.

The skinny man felt like the world had slowed down.

’Is this the moment-of-death flashback everyone talks about?’

After a moment’s daze, he realized something was off.

The explosion’s light hadn’t spread, instead shrinking before the young man’s eyes until it collapsed into an imperceptible point.

Gone.

The skinny man slumped onto the deck, tears streaming down, unsure if from fear or pain.

The passage of time around him remained normal, but only he seemed slower at that moment.

”Right, what was I going to ask again?”

Su Huan awkwardly scratched his head, he always stumbled at improvisation like this.

Listening to the gentle voice in his ear, the skinny man felt like he heard the devil’s whisper, his pupils filling with uncontrollable terror.

”Recently, there were big waves and we were blown over here, the ship was dragged down by a sea monster, so we stayed here hoping a passing ship would give us a ride...”

Seeing him spill everything like beans from a bamboo tube, no one looked down on him for it.

Tong Zizhan, recently promoted to captain, gave Gao Yuan a thumbs up.

Showing approval for the train chief’s interrogation methods.

Not even having prepared the questions, he still managed to break the man’s defenses.

Su Huan didn’t need to watch the next steps; He Jie and his team could take over.

Interrogation was meticulous work, even if the psychological defenses were breached, extensive questioning was needed to verify and avoid mistakes from slips of the tongue.

The train was quite adept at this, with He Jie’s elite soldiers, not to mention there was an interrogation and a profiling expert among Black Kite’s surrender, all skilled in this trade.

Finally, they had Lin Xi as a safeguard.

Mind Reading was practically a cheat ability.

But unless absolutely necessary, he wouldn’t use her; besides himself, perhaps only Director Xu knew about Lin Xi’s mind-reading abilities in the entire train.

After all, the latter was the Steel Council’s chief research expert, and after so much time studying, it was normal for her to have some guesses about Lin Xi’s abilities.

Su Huan headed for the dining car for a while.

Only Yu Yue was there besides him, quietly grinding beans behind the cupboard.

In about the time it took to drink a cup of coffee, Shu Wei entered with a stack of documents.

”We’ve got it; these survivors are part of two groups. The leading six are recent arrivals; their gathering point is in a county outside Guan Chong City. They got scattered by storms while out collecting supplies. As for their talk of ’New Eden’, it’s a religious faction not on the Pioneer forces’ list.”
