Chapter 360: Chapter 154, The Siege of Yulsen_2

The wooden siege hammers were pounding against the city gates, producing a rumbling sound. On top of the gate tower, soldiers were directing the peasants to shoot arrows downward. Many of the horned beasts carrying the siege hammers fell down shot, but more of them rushed forward. The siege hammers made from the trunks of trees were very crude, and not very effective; the city gates shook violently but showed no signs of breaking.

Constant attacks resulted in heavy casualties for the beastmen, with corpses piling up around the castle, to the point where even the ditches were filled.

A Doomsday Bull walked up beside the Beast King ”Blood Horn” Maras, panting heavily, hot air spewing from its nostrils: ”Gate... strong, wood... weak.”

”We... can’t open... the gate,” the Doomsday Bull said to the Beast King.

”Useless... useless!” the Beast King roared angrily, knowing it needed to buy time as the Knightly Army might appear at any moment: ”Attack... again!”

”Attack again... can’t open... the gate,” the Doomsday Bull continued.

”...Uh... all useless,” the Beast King pushed the Doomsday Bull aside with a smile: ”No worries... we have... Grier.”

Upon the Beast King’s command, a Cyclops, standing five meters tall, stepped out from the ranks of the beastmen.

”Grier! Grier! Grier!” All the beastmen shouted the Cyclops’ name. A few beastmen placed a huge black rock in front of the Cyclops, who let out a few wild howls, then lifted the rock and staggered towards the castle’s main gate.

”Grier! Grier! Grier!”

The shouting outside was clearly heard by Count Adelaide inside the castle, his face drenched in sweat. Hesitant, he picked up the Magic Communication Device and took out a Gemstone.

After connecting, even before Marquis Angxi could speak, Count Adelaide cried out in a heart-wrenching voice: ”My Marquis, the castle has reached its limit, we have reached our limit, there are only over three hundred living souls left in the castle.”

”My Marquis, my Marquis, for the sake of the Lady and the King, reach out and lend your brother a hand! Where are our reinforcements?”

There was a brief silence over the communication device before Marquis Angxi’s voice came through.

”We are racing to Yulsen Castle at full speed, Count Adelaide, please hold on for thirty more minutes, just hold on for thirty more minutes, we will be there shortly!”

Adelaide put down the Magic Communication Device; the Gemstone had already lost its luster, the last Gemstone of this castle, and it was the last opportunity for communication.

At the front gate, the Cyclops Grier charged toward the gate, clutching the black stone and stumbling.

”Grier! Grier! Grier!”

”Waaaahhh!” The Cyclops lifted the black stone, placed it on its head, then used the momentum to smash it headfirst and passed out from the pain.

The city gate finally collapsed amidst the beastmen’s revelry.

......

An hour later, Marquis Angxi finally led the Knightly Army to Yulsen Castle.

From a distance, Yulsen Castle still billowed thick black smoke, and countless beastmen corpses surrounded its walls, with filthy blood reddening the river.

”It seems we are not too late.” The knights wiped sweat from their brows, having forced-marched for a day and night, the army of over eighteen thousand finally arrived at Yulsen Castle.

Worse yet, the army was running low on food, with only three days of supplies left after a four-day march.

The Knightly Army gradually drew closer to Yulsen Castle, and the knights began to notice an unusual atmosphere.

Silence.

It was far too quiet.

”Something’s wrong, assemble the troops, prepare for battle!” Marquis Angxi also sensed the abnormality. He motioned for the army to halt their advance, then divide into several contingents on standby, while he rode to the forefront of the formation: ”Adelaide?”

”Adelaide?”

Some shadowy figures appeared on the battlements, and a round, ball-like object was thrown down: ”Your... Count... for you!”

”Ha!”

”For you... all for you... return the humans... to the humans!” The castle’s catapults were brutally opened, and countless objects like fragments of stones were launched from inside the castle, flying towards the Knightly Army.

”Take cover!” The knights barely had time to shout before the objects flew rapidly; they seemed light, barely lethal even if hit.

”Ahhhhh!” When those ”stones” landed among them, many peasants involuntarily let out cries of terror, retreating in fright.

They were heads! So many heads!

Knights’ heads! Soldiers’ heads! Peasants’ heads! Even numerous heads of castle servants and women!

”Ahhhhh!” Many heads were still oozing blood, and their frightened, despair-filled expressions before death deeply pressured the peasants. Some turned to flee, causing waves of panic within the Knightly Army, despite the knights’ efforts to suppress the peasants’ fears and lift their morale. Distrust ran rampant among the peasants towards what the knights said.

Without the Holy Grail Knight, their fear was genuine.
