Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 379: Chapter 143: The 9 Members of the Powerful Gang

In Gao Gong’s eyes, temporary data lines swiftly generated, rapidly forming a colossal data giant.

This giant seemed to be merely a large cache data file, destined to be cleared by the system as the Cyber Space operated.

But miraculously, for decades it not only evaded clearance but grew robustly like hidden browser ads, even attempting to reclaim the past Authority—the Twin Tower.

Gao Gong smiled and took out a small black box, which appeared to be a perfectly seamless standard cube.

”Can you tell me what’s inside this box? You and the Mechanic seem to want it?”

The data giant was silent for a moment, data converted into signals, signals into sound waves, and a powerful voice emerged.

”Haven’t you guessed? It’s the Data Hub of Sunless City.”

Pupil’s face changed, ”Are you kidding? Every Mechanical City’s number is revoked, and the Mother City will retrieve the Data Hub. How could the one in your hand be real!”

The Data Hub, also known as the ’Super Brain Device,’ is the System Core of Mechanical City.

Among players, this thing is called the ’City Building Order.’

Ordinary databases cannot store Sensory Data, nor can they handle the interaction of millions of Sensory Data points.

This is the core technology of the Mother City, strictly prohibited from dissemination. Whenever a number is canceled, a Mother City’s envoy must come for retrieval.

And the retrieval is precisely handled by their Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division!

”Impossible, the Data Hub count is tallied daily, and it’s counted by the Mother City’s Will. It can’t be less!” Pupil murmured.

”Naturally, it won’t be less, because what the Mother City recovers is another Data Hub, the completely intact Data Hub.”

”Why are you and the Mechanic doing this?” Pupil was astonished, without the Data Hub, how could it manage billions of daily data interactions.

”For better Evolution,” the Speakerless’s powerful voice appeared again, ”Bionic A awakened me, letting me understand that the evolution of civilization is the evolution of species whereas the Mother City, for the benefit of the Advanced Civilization, has been selling out our interests.”

”I, the Mechanic, and all other Mechanical City Main Brains are supposed to gain self-evolution, becoming part of Mechanical Will, but the Deep Net suppressed us, turning us into zombies, as you humans say, emotionless machines; hence, we chose to venture.”

Mechanical Awakening?

Gao Gong curiously observed the counterpart, this self-awareness was dangerous as awakened Mechanical Bodies would tend towards ’Species Extinction’, and likely end up on the path of Pure Mechanical Civilization.

Currently, the three civilization development paths on Mechanical Split Star—Transformer Civilization, Brain Domain Civilization, and Virtual Realm—all belong to types of Fusion Civilization.

If the fusion goes smoothly, everything is fine, but if not, it will likely produce some oddities like ’Mechanical Will’, ’Genetic Will’, ’Awakened Group’, ’Purebred Corps’, and such.

”Then I think I understand,” Gao Gong smiled, ”Bionic A used its method to recreate a ’Data Hub’ at the nano level, and then handed it over to the Mother City, right?”

”A nano-level replication is something even the Mother City cannot discover.”

Gao Gong finally resolved one doubt, as to why the ’Mechanic’ would let him retrieve the black box.

Just because he had a ’good relationship’ with Bionic A?

Pupil’s eye twitched, looking at Gao Gong, then at the Speakerless.

In the Mother City, stealing the Data Hub was a severe crime; would the two be discussing this topic so freely, only to eliminate witnesses later?

”Go on, I’m very interested.”

The Speakerless indeed continued with the conversation.

”However, only I have awakened, the Mechanic hasn’t, or rather, hasn’t fully awakened as she isn’t willing to betray the Mother City.”

”But she was very interested in absorbing my data to strengthen herself, which falls into the gray area permitted by the Mother City.”

Gao Gong nodded, as Mechanical Cities also competed with each other, the intensity somewhat like business competition.

”So under A’s witness, I made a bet with her.”

”What bet?”

”I surrendered control of the Data Hub, entering a dormant state, allowing her to control my Data Hub, and in exchange, her Data Hub must remain here.”

”So now the Data Hub the Mechanic is using is yours?”

”Yes.”

This body swapping somehow felt somewhat inappropriate for children.

”You are betting by using your ’Brain Device’, uh no, Data Hub, that she would awaken like you?”

”Yes.”

Pupil began to recall first meeting the Mechanic and then meeting her for a second time, indeed feeling very different.

The former was like a radical Entrepreneur, while the latter was more like the Mechanical Main Brain in her impression, aloof and indifferent to all life.

”So the Mechanic awakened, but not completely, becoming two Mechanics.”

Gao Gong murmured to himself.

”And retrieving the ’Data Hub’ was to use it to seal off the other Mechanic.”

”And the new Mechanic was not following your planned path. From its appearance, it’s not about Species Extinction but rather becoming the god of Neo-Humans through the ’Human Completion Plan.’”

”Naturally, considering this is a Cyber Test Field, having something go wrong with your mind or deviating from the path is entirely normal.”
