Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 377: Chapter 142: Gallery

On the second day, three explosive pieces of news quickly spread throughout Crime City.

The former Mechanical Main Brain, the Speakerless appeared at the top of the Twin Towers.

All 134 members of the Crime Council were dead.

The Twin Towers collapsed.

These three pieces of news were more explosive than the last, especially for the reporters who witnessed the collapse of the Twin Towers last night, they were immensely thrilled.

In their memory, after the appearance of the Speakerless, without a single word, all the mechanical defense systems were activated. For a moment, countless laser beams aimed at the tower, and after a full ten minutes of deadly firing, they successfully split the Twin Towers in two.

The scene of the collapse was astonishing.

At the same time, a rumor quickly spread throughout Crime City.

The recently popular Evil Jade Clan inherited the ’Speakerless’s legacy.’

All crime syndicates in the city were alarmed.

In an instant, countless eyes and ears were sent out, in cyber space, underground spots, and even some gangs’ safe houses.

But nothing was found.

The Evil Jade Clan seemed to have mysteriously vanished.

...

Meanwhile, in the former Crime City’s top gang, at a secluded Japanese-style villa of the Rice Fragrance Association, Hacker, Fire Starter, Liu Dehua, Yanzi, and Debt Collector were all gathered.

As for the other two, Mortar was confirmed dead, while Scissorhand was nowhere to be found.

Even though they ’completed’ the Nightmare-level task, the atmosphere was somber, and the five eyed each other with suspicion.

Hacker was the first to challenge: ”What exactly happened on the 200th floor last night, and why didn’t I receive any signal?”

Yanzi rolled her eyes, ”Told you numerous times, how many more times do you want to hear it?”

”All those dead Legislators, and those tentacle monsters that don’t show up on the player panel, and you guys instantly teleporting to the Twin Towers’ perimeter without knowing why, are you messing with us!” Hacker retorted.

”Most importantly,” Fire Starter said with a gloomy glare, ”the item the task issuer wanted us to obtain, where did you hide it?”

Liu Dehua furrowed his eyebrows, his gaze turning sharp, ”If we took the task rewards for ourselves, then why should we save you? Suspect me? Better to suspect yourself, that super robot from nowhere suddenly saved your life and took you to the Twin Towers, isn’t this story quite miraculous.”

Yanzi glanced at the always silent Hei Bing No. 2, raising her eyebrows, ”Where did you disappear to yesterday? You said you’d come but didn’t, were you passing information to certain people?”

Hei Bing No. 2 folded his arms, remaining silent for a long time, then said:

”Instead of doubting each other, why not consider what to do next? You should know, right now the city is swarming with people hunting us down, including players.”

”So what, can’t beat NPCs, but can’t beat players either?” Yanzi retorted, ”Or are you saying NPCs would believe players’ rubbish, believe we possess the ’undying’ ability?”

”Why wouldn’t they believe?” Hei Bing No. 2 similarly retorted, ”You must know, in this game world, resurrection isn’t a secret; clone, consciousness transfer, virtual personality, just the ones I know of are three. Now everyone outside thinks we inherited the Speakerless’s legacy, so what’s strange about ’revival’.”

After all the bickering, not a single problem was resolved.

Liu Dehua returned to his room indifferently, spending some time with a mature woman, then resting with his eyes closed, until Yanzi arrived, only then did he open his eyes again.

”You expected I would come?” Yanzi asked surprisedly.

”Don’t you want to know what I discovered? Plus, you will come to ask me who among us is the traitor.”

”No wonder you’re the Infinite Walker, who’s the traitor?” Yanzi indeed showed interest.

”Debt Collector,” Liu Dehua replied.

”Why him?” Yanzi was astonished, she felt Hacker, Fire Starter were more suspicious.

But Liu Dehua refused to give a reason, was asked several times, only replied with the word ’intuition.’

Yanzi pursed her lips, suspecting Liu Dehua was pretending to be profound.

”Fine then, what was the secret you wanted to tell yesterday, what issue does the task issuer have?”

He got up, took out a stack of documents from a safe, handed them to Yanzi.

”These were left by the previous Chairman of the Rice Fragrance Association, it’s about the Mechanical Main Brain of Sunless City.”

Yanzi leafed through briefly, there was a lot, quite messy, but the gist showed it was documentation of the last cyber experiment.

Crime experiment, unexpected disruptor, the Mechanical Main Brain being countered, corporation withdrawal, Mechanical City’s code canceled, ultimately leaving only this Crime City.

”What a mess, just directly tell the truth then.”

”Alright, simply said, the group experiment with the Mechanical Main Brain failed last time, and a very important reason for failure was the appearance of a disruptor, who used a very special method to reverse the group experiment’s outcome, severely injuring the Mechanical Main Brain.”

”Take a good look, the documentation says severely injuring, not exterminating, so it means the Mechanical Main Brain of Sunless City is very likely still alive.”

”And our task issuer is very possibly that severely injured Mechanical Main Brain.”

”Really!?” Yanzi suddenly stood up, eyes sparkling, ”If this is true, we could really strike it big! Capturing this Mechanical Main Brain, we could become the first batch of players to establish a city!”

”Not that simple,” Liu Dehua said calmly, ”The mysterious death of the previous Chairman of the Rice Fragrance Association is very possibly because of this secret.”

”Who did it, the task issuer? That ’Speakerless’? Or was it the one we saw yesterday?”
