Chapter 90: Chapter 58: Shocking Appearance

After a series of battles, Su Xiao felt slightly fatigued, so he jumped onto a concrete beam for a temporary rest. The high position reduced the likelihood of being detected, preventing ambushes.

Wiping the blood off his hands, Su Xiao lit a cigarette and sat on the beam suspended three meters high, resting with his long knife in hand.

But in less than five minutes, hurried footsteps were heard; the ghouls from the Bronze Tree were coming again.

Su Xiao sighed helplessly and jumped down from the beam.

”This road is blocked.”

After saying this, Su Xiao charged towards the terrified ghouls.

...

Beneath the Bronze Tree base, three people were hiding, specifically the manager of Anteiku, Yoshimura Yoshiyasu, Black Doberman Inami Kana, and Fueguchi Hinami.

”Xuan, what are CCG’s movements?”

The manager spoke, wearing the attire of the Bronze Tree.

”The CCG is divided into four teams; three are assault teams, and one is responsible for the rear guard. The rear guard... well, it’s not even a team, it’s just one person.

That person blocked the back door. So far, only one member of the Bronze Tree has passed through the back door, and all others have been wiped out.

The current situation favors the CCG.”

After listening to Inami Kana’s report, the manager fell silent for a moment.

”One person guarding the back door, is the opponent human?”

Inami Kana looked at the manager in surprise.

”Of course they’re human; how could there be ghouls in the CCG?”

The manager gave a bitter smile; there were certainly ghouls in the CCG, but some truths were too dangerous to speak.

”If they’re human, then it can only be two people; it seems a ’Soul Reaper’ has arrived. I wonder if it’s the black one or the white one.

If it’s the white one, there might be room for negotiation, but if it’s the black one, then we can only fight desperately.”

The manager stood up, red eyes appearing.

”No choice. We must buy Dong Xiang and the others some time. Xuan, you take Chusi away first. Also, notify Dong Xiang and the others that if they can’t rescue Kaneki in ten minutes, they should prepare to retreat.”

Watching the manager walk away, Inami Kana parted her lips, wanting to say something, but she didn’t know how to begin.

”Sister Xuan, will the manager be in danger?”

Chusi looked worriedly at the departing manager, her small face full of concern.

”No, the manager is very strong.”

Inami Kana patted Chusi on the head, forcing a smile.

In the CCG, those who could earn the title of Soul Reaper generally represented the ability to singlehandedly defeat SSS-level ghouls, so how could Inami Kana not worry about the manager’s safety?

If it weren’t for the manager, Inami Kana would still be a rabid ’Wild Dog,’ preying on humans everywhere. The manager redeemed her from being a ghoul to being a ’human.’

Inami Kana was even more anxious because the manager hadn’t consumed fresh human meat in a long time, leading to a decrease in Rc cell concentration in his body.

”Chusi is scared; it seems like there’s someone very dangerous over there.”

Chusi pointed her slender fingers in a direction, where Su Xiao was.

...

At this moment, the main battlefield was already ablaze, with CCG investigators and the Bronze Tree ghouls battling fiercely within this dilapidated building.

In a corridor littered with debris, Amon Koutarou held two long-handled knives, breathing heavily.

Lying before him were two corpses: S-Level ghouls, the Bottle Brothers.

”Mr. Matsumae, you were right: never give up until the last moment. Before avenging you, I will not die.”

After Amon was about to rest for a moment and then prepare to regroup with the main force, he suddenly heard a strange sound.

Looking up, Amon saw a dark shadow flying past the window, heading straight for the rooftop. The shadow was vaguely humanoid and extraordinarily tall, at least two and a half to three meters.

”What is that?”

Amon suddenly had a bad feeling.

...

After a hard-fought battle, the CCG’s main force finally swept most of the Bronze Tree ghouls.

This invigorated the CCG investigators, and under the leadership of First-Class Investigators Yukinori Shinohara and Black Basalt, the CCG’s main force charged to the rooftop.

According to previous thermal imaging observations, a large number of ghouls gathered at the rooftop.

But when Yukinori Shinohara arrived at the rooftop with his team, it was empty, not even a ghost shadow.

”This is Shinohara; we’ve reached the rooftop, but those Bronze Tree guys don’t seem to be here. It feels a bit strange.”

Yukinori Shinohara reported the situation to Marutei Sakurai.

A smile appeared on the corner of Marutei Sakurai’s mouth in the command vehicle; he had received reports earlier about many hidden detonation points in the Bronze Tree base, which had now been dismantled.

”This time, it was just a ’clever ruse’ by those Bronze Tree guys. Even if no one is here, retreat. This isn’t a full-scale battle, just bait set by those guys.”

Marutei Sakurai explained the situation to Yukinori Shinohara via Bluetooth headset.

It was indeed the case; the Bronze Tree hadn’t planned to go to war with the CCG at all.

More precisely, the Bronze Tree didn’t have the capital to engage the CCG, which was far more complicated than it currently appeared.

”Then let’s retreat. We’ve driven away a significant number of ghouls this time, and more importantly, we’ve reclaimed the 11th District.”

At this point, Yukinori Shinohara showed a joyful expression.

”Mr. Shinohara.”

Amon Koutarou had arrived at the rooftop without anyone noticing.

”Amon, you’re okay.”

Yukinori Shinohara looked at Amon with concern; they had a good relationship.

”Mr. Shinohara, I think I saw....”

”Boom!”

Halfway through Amon Koutarou’s words, a loud noise was heard as a massive object crashed onto the rooftop.

”Hmm?”

Yukinori Shinohara and the others turned their gaze towards the source of the sound.

”What happened?”

Marutei Sakurai observed an ’object’ falling onto the rooftop via the display screens in the command vehicle.

After Marutei Sakurai’s question, there was a long silence.

”Ah Wan, it’s that guy, the One-eyed Owl.”

Yukinori Shinohara’s voice was low.

Through the green screen in front of him, Marutei Sakurai also clearly saw the scene on the rooftop.

Marutei Sakurai’s usual nonchalant demeanor changed as he placed one hand on the headset, his gaze extraordinarily cold.

”Shinohara, only keep the top-tier talents who are not afraid of death by your side. Even if others risk their lives, they won’t delay him.

With the smallest number and the most elite personnel, fight him and buy me five minutes, over.”

Marutei Sakurai immediately switched channels to contact Su Xiao.

”Bai Ye, are you still at the back door?”

The voice in the headset was noisy.

”Yes, but I’m very busy right now.”

Su Xiao dodged an incoming Heko and killed its owner with one slash.

”There’s no need to worry about the back door; the rooftop needs support. The One-eyed Owl has appeared, and Shinohara and the others are preparing to confront it. They may not be able to handle it.”

Su Xiao, engaging in battle with more than a dozen ghouls, stopped in his tracks.

The ghouls looked at Su Xiao in terror, their bodies trembling uncontrollably. Some ghouls with severed limbs lay on the ground, wailing in pain.

”Understood, I’ll head to the rooftop as soon as possible.”

”Please.”

With the call ending, Su Xiao bent down and tore off a piece of cloth to wipe his Dragon Slash.

”Disappear from my sight within ten seconds.”

Hearing Su Xiao’s statement, the dozen or so ghouls scattered in panic. Originally, they had over thirty companions, and now only fourteen remained.

After confirming the direction, Su Xiao started heading towards the rooftop.
