Chapter 88: Chapter 56: Turning the Tables

The CCG and the ghouls began exchanging fire from mid-range.

The ghouls within the Bronze Tree Base clearly had the advantage; their Heko were shaped like shields, with small holes that didn’t interfere with shooting while also defending against bullets.

Casualties for the CCG began to increase, and in less than five minutes of crossfire, dozens of combatants were dead or wounded.

In the command vehicle, Marutei watched this scene on the screen, a displeased expression on his face.

”Why don’t we have the upper hand in shooting?”

The deputy hurriedly responded.

”The enemy has Heko shields, they’re extremely troublesome.”

Marutei snorted coldly, getting up and walking out of the command vehicle.

”Bang.”

Marutei kicked open the back door, unfazed by the rain of bullets, and seized a gun from an investigator nearby, firing several bursts towards the Bronze Tree Base.

”Bang, bang bang....”

For every three bullets Marutei fired, a ghoul inside the Bronze Tree Base would die.

This terrifying marksmanship instinctively made the ghouls shrink back behind cover, significantly weakening their firepower.

”You guys, give me....”

Just as Marutei was about to shout, a familiar roaring sound came from not far away.

Marutei stiffly turned his head towards the source of the roar.

Shuuzou Suzuya was sitting on a brand-new motorcycle, revving the throttle ferociously.

”Hey, what are you planning to do with my motorcycle?”

Marutei’s tone was urgent.

Suzuya flashed a joyous smile, his eyes narrowed with laughter.

”Just borrowing it.”

With that, Angel Tokaji twisted the throttle, and the motorcycle roared away.

”Stop!!”

Suzuya ignored Marutei’s wails, speeding the motorcycle towards the Bronze Tree Base.

”Hey, wait, hey hey~.”

Marutei was already incoherent, his face twisted, and Su Xiao beside him even noticed tears in Marutei’s eyes~.

Su Xiao was puzzled as to why Marutei brought a motorcycle on a mission. Was it for emergency escape? Given Marutei’s personality, it wasn’t impossible.

Suzuya, riding the motorcycle, charged up a high slope.

”Boom!”

An explosion rang out, Marutei’s motorcycle sacrificed, Suzuya used the momentum to dash into the Bronze Tree Base, clearing all the firing points after a sweep.

The motorcycle’s wreckage scattered, and Su Xiao clearly saw tears streaming down Marutei’s face.

”My globally limited motorcycle.”

Marutei sniffed, wiping away the tears on his face.

Although Shuuzou Suzuya destroyed his motorcycle, he also broke open the outer defenses of the Bronze Tree.

”Assault!”

After a hoarse roar, Marutei was exhausted, collapsing to his knees.

A large group of CCG combatants charged into the Bronze Tree Base.

”Marutei, I’ll head to the designated location first.”

Su Xiao walked past Marutei.

Kneeling on the ground, Marutei lifted his head, looking at Su Xiao.

”I entrust the rear to you, don’t let the ghouls escape in the chaos. The bomb disposal unit you mentioned has been arranged, now using the main force’s cover to search for possible explosives.”

Before setting out, Su Xiao suggested to Marutei that the Bronze Tree Base might have planted many explosives, intending to lure the CCG people into the base, then have the Bronze Tree ghouls retreat from the back door, and finally detonate the explosives.

After hearing Su Xiao’s ’guess,’ Marutei didn’t think much and applied for a bomb disposal unit from the headquarters.

As the battlefield commander, Marutei takes any potential danger seriously, especially such a feasible plan.

In the original story, the Bronze Tree did plant bombs; knowing this point, the Contractors of the Ghoul Camp might also guess that the bomb’s existence had been exposed.

Removing the threat of the bombs, it would be a pure struggle of strength between both sides, and the outcome would depend on each side’s abilities.

Su Xiao walked slowly into the Bronze Tree Base. He avoided the densely populated upper floors and went to the back door of the Bronze Tree Base.

He intended to block the retreat of the Bronze Tree ghouls here.

The night breeze blew through, faintly carrying the scent of blood; the gunfire and screams inside the base formed a continuous cacophony, yet the area by the back door remained silent.

Su Xiao jumped onto a three-meter cement beam, sitting on top quietly waiting.

With his current physical condition, three meters was no big deal, but calling it a small feat might be too arrogant; it’s more of a medium feat.

For the moment, there wouldn’t be many ghouls at the back door; the surroundings were entirely silent.

Faint footsteps were approaching; a ghoul was coming.

”Ah~ looks like I’ve encountered a tricky enemy.”

A ghoul, wearing a pink top and gold-rimmed sunglasses, emerged from the darkness.

The person appeared androgynous, with a flamboyant gait, like a human demon.

”Didn’t expect to find a bonus.”

Su Xiao jumped down from the beam, stretching his shoulders, holding the Dragon Slash, and approached the newcomer.

”If I remember correctly, your name is Nico, an SS-level ghoul and a member of the Clowns.”

Hearing Su Xiao’s words, Human Demon Nico’s face changed, the relaxed demeanor disappearing.

”You actually know the Clowns. I originally didn’t want to fight you, but now I can only kill you.”

Nico’s red eye appeared, with a Heko emerging from the end of the spine, combining with Scale He.

According to intelligence obtained from the original story, Nico’s power is not weak. Although designated as an SS-level ghoul by the CCG, the strength is definitely more than just that of an SS-level ghoul.

This guy’s recovery power is extremely abnormal; once stabbed through the abdomen by Gecko’s hand, yet able to recover extremely quickly.

Nico kicked off the high heels, charging rapidly towards Su Xiao.

Su Xiao held the Dragon Slash horizontally in front, eyes fixed on Nico.

After a few strides closing in on Su Xiao, Nico kicked towards Su Xiao’s head. Su Xiao tilted his head to avoid the blow, turning to kick Nico in the abdomen.

Su Xiao didn’t draw his blade; he intended to use the sword to defend against Nico’s Heko.

Aside from a few ghouls, most ghouls’ close combat ability is quite poor.

When fighting ghouls, one must focus on defending against the ghoul’s Heko, as the Heko may have unknown capabilities.

As expected, after being kicked back two steps by Su Xiao, Nico’s Heko coiled, whipping towards Su Xiao’s neck.

Holding the Dragon Slash with both hands, Su Xiao took a deep breath and sliced with full force at Nico’s Heko.

”Splat.”

Nico’s Heko broke on impact, most of it flying far away.

”Ah~.” Nico let out a trembling cry of pain, a face nearly in ecstasy.

”This is truly~ delightful!”

Nico showed no signs of injury; instead, he lunged at Su Xiao, completely ignoring the injuries.

Su Xiao ignored Nico’s strange cries, wielding the Dragon Slash to strike at Nico twice.

”Splat, splat.”

An arm and most of a shoulder flew off Nico, yet Su Xiao frowned. He felt no resistance, as if he was cutting through liquid.

Nico stepped back two steps, the severed Heko already regenerating. The Heko coiled, clasping the dismembered arm and most of the shoulder mid-air.

Reattaching the arm and shoulder to the wound, gulu gulu~, dark red liquid surged, Nico’s wounds healed.

Nico’s recovery ability was not inferior to Ye Lu’s perverse capabilities.

”Again.”

Su Xiao’s eyelids drooped, ordinary cleaves couldn’t harm Nico.

Pale blue arc appeared on the Dragon Slash’s surface, Blue Steel Shadow was activated.

If ordinary cleaves couldn’t harm the opponent, then burn the opponent’s internal energy, using True Damage to crush the enemy.
