Reincarnation Paradise Park

Chapter 76: Chapter 44: First Appearance

Su Xiao walked into the pitch-black cave entrance, a slightly fishy rapid airflow brushing past his cheeks,

The entrance descended like a slope, gradually leading underground.

After traveling a certain distance, the tunnel narrowed a bit, but it was still at least five meters high and seven or eight meters wide. Who knows how long the Ghouls had dug to form a tunnel of this size.

Upon entering the tunnel, he discovered that although it was underground, it was not completely dark.

At the top of the tunnel, a plant with gray branches clung there, its roots dense, producing a peculiar kind of flower.

The flowers hung from the tunnel’s top wall, emitting a faint white light, making the tunnel not appear dark.

”Drip, drip~.”

The water dripped from the cave top, causing Arima Kishou and Yuna to immediately dodge away.

”Don’t touch those liquids, it’s the juice secreted by the ’Light Flower’, very poisonous.”

Yuna immediately reminded Su Xiao, and he nodded.

”Don’t be careless, more than 50 investigators have died from the poison of the ’Light Flower’.”

Seeing that Su Xiao didn’t seem to care, Yuna reminded him once more.

”Mm, thank you.”

Though Yuna was a bit neurotic, she was a good teammate.

After walking several hundred meters inside the tunnel, a metal door appeared in front of the three of them.

”We’re here.”

Arima Kishou reached into his collar and pulled out a necklace, with a gold key attached to it.

The key inserted into the metal door, which opened with a roar.

”Every time I enter this damn door, I feel like I won’t be able to get out. Which moron built this thing, damn it.”

Yuna cursed softly and then muttered silently for a while.

This is a checkpoint built a long time ago by the CCG to prevent the Ghouls in the 24th District from leaving, with only two keys, held by Arima Kishou and Washuu Itsuki (the CCG Director).

The metal door opened, releasing a blast of foul stench.

Two paths appeared outside the metal face.

The world outside the metal face and inside it were completely different.

Inside the metal door, the walls were no longer earthen layers but rather dark red flesh walls.

Su Xiao took out Dragon Slash and stabbed the blade towards the flesh wall, feeling its hard texture and strong resilience.

”Squelch.”

After Dragon Slash pierced into the flesh wall for a segment, it actually started to tighten, attempting to clamp onto Dragon Slash.

”Arima, which way are we going this time?”

Yuna and Arima Kishou were very familiar, being partners for a long time.

”You decide.”

Arima Kishou held a Kuingke in each hand, namely ’Sounding God’ and ’IXA’.

Yuna took out a coin and flipped it.

”Heads, then right it is.”

Arima Kishou nodded.

Su Xiao was a bit puzzled watching this scene. Is there no set route?

”Strange, isn’t it, this way of choosing a path.”

Yuna smiled at Su Xiao.

”No fixed route?”

”No, nor could there be.”

Yuna’s words puzzled Su Xiao further.

”These flesh walls are not fixed; they often change. Just like the fork in front of us, sometimes there are two paths, sometimes three, or even five.

This is why the 24th District cannot be fully explored; this whole area is ’alive’.”

After hearing Yuna’s explanation, Su Xiao frowned.

”How do we get out after going deeper into the 24th District? As it stands, getting trapped and dying isn’t impossible.”

”Of course there’s a way. With this thing, leaving isn’t a problem.”

Yuna tossed a compass.

Arima Kishou spoke beside her.

”The exploration time for this trip is set to two days. If there’s no gain after two days, we’ll return to the surface to the temporary branch for rest.”

Arima Kishou thought for a while, then continued:

”First-class Bai Ye, what are you best at?”

Arima Kishou wanted to know some data about Su Xiao.

”Frontal charge, perception, assault.”

”Very good.”

Arima Kishou pushed the glasses on his nose.

”I’ll take the lead, Yuna in the middle, Bai Ye at the back.”

Su Xiao had no objection to this formation, but Yuna pouted.

”I’m not a newbie, why do I have to stay in the middle, it’s really annoying.”

Yuna gave Su Xiao a once-over and, feeling she wasn’t a match, chose to stay in the middle.

The small team of three started heading deeper into the 24th District.

”Roar!”

Not far ahead, a roar came from the front.

”Damn it, can’t it be any more unlucky!”

Yuna cursed under her breath, turned, and ran.

Arima Kishou reacted similarly, running back without hesitation.

”Retreat quickly, something is coming.”

Without needing Arima Kishou’s shout, upon seeing the two fleeing, Su Xiao also turned and ran, barely overtaking Yuna.

”What is that?”

While running, Su Xiao took a moment to ask Yuna.

”That’s a ’Monster,’ the 24th District is different from the 14th District; there are more than just Ghouls here.”

Quickly, the three returned to the fork.

Although the terrain of the 24th District changes, these changes are cyclical, usually undergoing significant changes every seven or eight days, with only minor changes at other times.

”The right side is blocked, Blood Eye is on the right.”

Yuna panted heavily, looking at the right tunnel with lingering fear.

Su Xiao frowned, just what kind of monster could make even Arima Kishou run away.

”Arima. Blood Eye is active. Should we give up?”

Yuna was on the brink of retreat.

”No need. Blood Eye’s range of movement is not broad. Explore the left passage.”

Arima Kishou led the way, and the three ventured into the left passage.

Not even having seen a Ghoul yet, the 24th District had already given Su Xiao two scares.

The ever-dripping poison and the monster so powerful it even required Arima Kishou to flee.

This time, the three ventured smoothly into the 24th District, progressing for hours without incidents or encountering any Ghouls, which puzzled Su Xiao. Wasn’t the 24th District supposed to be full of Ghouls?

”Boom.”

A loud rumbling sound came, trembling the passage, causing dust to scatter.

”Blood Eye is acting up again.”

Yuna’s face turned unsightly, appearing incredibly wary of the creature known as ’Blood Eye.’

”It’s entering its Metamorphosis Period. I fought with it last week.”

Arima Kishou’s words were startling; he had actually fought with that unknown monster.

An hour of progressing further into the 24th District left Su Xiao disoriented.

The 24th District lives up to its reputation as a maze; there had been dozens of forks along the way.

Another corner appeared upfront.

”Wait a moment.”

Su Xiao suddenly spoke out, and Yuna and Arima Kishou looked at him.

”What is it?”

Yuna was completely tense.

”I smell blood, and it’s very fresh, right around the corner.”

Yuna, half skeptical, looked at Su Xiao, tiptoed close to the corner, and peeked around.

Yuna turned her head and nodded at the two.

Arima Kishou side-eyed Su Xiao, and the two approached the corner quietly.

Su Xiao leaned into the corner and saw two Ghouls devouring a corpse just around the bend.

From the red eyes on the corpse, it was a Ghoul too.

It was Su Xiao’s first encounter with the Ghouls of the 24th District; they were very different from those outside.

Not in appearance, but in attire.

These two Ghouls from the 24th District were actually wearing grass skirts, with one even having a Bone Tooth Necklace hanging around its neck.

Su Xiao was stunned, had he just encountered Primitive Ghouls?
