Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 90: Chapter 80: Demon Spirit Skills

Lin Feng followed behind the team, situated at the rearmost position, his right hand clutching a grayish-black light orb, the demon spirit of the unicorn wild boar.

”The spirit refined by Ye Xuan should be a power attribute spirit.”

Lin Feng noticed that after hunting the unicorn wild boar herd, Xie Bing’s team did not split the spoils, but handed all the unicorn wild boar spirits to Ye Xuan.

And Ye Xuan was the warrior in the team, not tall but robust, wielding a machete. At this moment, he received the spirits from the team members, consuming them as though eating rice balls, three in total.

”So, has [Sprinting] emerged?” Xie Bing asked curiously.

The unicorn wild boar has no attribute, belonging to the power type demon beast, the most common first-grade demon beast in Senhai.

Because they are attribute-less spirits, unicorn wild boar spirits carry no risk of attribute conflict and can become food for any demon spirit.

Though they have no attribute, unicorn wild boars possess their innate skill, named [Sprinting].

[Sprinting] is one of the most basic skills for the warrior profession, with the effect of consuming certain amounts of soul power and spiritual power to explosively increase speed and power beyond normal limits for a short period.

”Not so easy, just slightly increased power is all.”

Saying this, Ye Xuan consumed three more, and after a while, among the group’s anticipation, he shook his head; it was expected, but he still looked somewhat disappointed.

At this moment, his soul power was already saturated, unable to absorb more for now.

”No worries, in these two months, you’ve absorbed nine unicorn wild boars in succession, the attribute of your lifebound demon spirit is slowly changing. Didn’t our classmate Wang Jie need thirty absorptions to succeed? We aren’t geniuses; innate skills aren’t easily gained.”

Seeing Ye Xuan’s disappointment, Xie Bing, as the captain, did not worry much, offering comfort.

Refining demon spirits to become a demon spirit master allows one to acquire the innate abilities of demon spirits, but a lifebound demon spirit absorbing other demon spirits doesn’t mean it will gain their skills.

The better the talent, the stronger the soul power, the higher the chance of obtaining innate skills.

For average talent, if unlucky, or if the lifebound demon spirit and the absorbed demon spirit’s attributes and skills don’t match, even absorbing hundreds might not succeed.

One unicorn wild boar spirit is worth around five thousand new coins, three would be fifteen thousand.

Ye Xuan wasn’t concerned about the money. After all, refining unicorn wild boar spirits benefits his internal demon spirit, at least strengthening the power attribute.

He worried that his lifebound demon spirit did not match the unicorn wild boar, unable to absorb the [Sprinting] skill!

And the [Sprinting] skill is one of the basic skills for warriors, especially for a first-grade martial artist; missing it means spending considerable time to find a new attack skill.

”Today’s luck was pretty good, encountering a unicorn wild boar herd so soon; usually there’s not such luck.”

Xie Bing said, distributing the unicorn wild boar spirits to Wen.

If a demon spirit is not sealed within a Demon-Sealing Soul Artifact, it will dissipate within five minutes.

Demon-Sealing Soul Artifacts come in three grades, divided into basic, intermediate, and advanced.

Basic Demon-Sealing containers start at over a million in value and are only fist-sized, capable of sealing only basic-level demon spirits, with a time limit of one month.

However, even the lowest-level ones are unaffordable for most. Intermediate ones exceed ten million, while advanced go over a billion.

On Awakening Day, many significant individuals at the altars use intermediate Demon-Sealing Soul Artifacts.

It was evident that Xie Bing’s adventure team did not possess Demon-Sealing Soul Artifacts; not to waste, they could only absorb the unicorn wild boar spirits as food for their lifebound demon spirits.

Clearly, given their attribute mismatch, they were naturally unlikely to gain the [Sprinting] skill.

”Feng Lin? Are you also a demon spirit master?”

Xie Bing, seeing Lin Feng holding a unicorn wild boar spirit as if intending to absorb it, asked curiously.

”Yes!” Lin Feng nodded, not denying.

By this time, he had already refined Nightmare; Nightmare and Shadow Demon Spirit looked nearly identical, unless he transformed, no one would notice.

Seeing Lin Feng’s confirmation, Xie Bing, Ye Xuan, and Wen seemed unconcerned, but the other two in the team showed a hint of envy in their eyes, indicating that they were likely martial artists, not demon spirit masters.

”Ye Xuan refined a third-grade Heavy Armored Rhinoceros, I refined a fourth-grade Wind Fox, Wen refined a second-grade Long-nosed Beast, how about you, Feng Lin?” Xie Bing asked somewhat curiously.

Throughout the journey, observing Lin Feng’s performance and seeing he was alone, Xie Bing had little guard, revealing his team’s three members’ refined demon spirits.

”A fifth-grade Shadow Demon Spirit.” Lin Feng said.

”Fifth-grade, huh!”

Xie Bing and others showed some awe, with a tinge of envy.

Demon spirit masters can gain innate skills by absorbing other demon spirits, but each stage allows acquiring only one innate skill.

For example, at first-grade demon spirit, one can only absorb one innate skill, and only upon breaking through to second-grade demon spirit can a second skill be absorbed, and so forth.

Fourth-grade demon spirits and fifth-grade are separated by just one grade, seemingly only differing by one innate skill, which initially is alright as the gap is not vast.

However, once Lin Feng’s demon spirit grows to fifth-grade, while Xie Bing, due to his refinement of fourth-grade demon spirit, can only become a fourth-grade demon spirit master; by then, the gap widens significantly, with an additional skill and an overwhelming difference in grade and power.

Given Xie Bing’s soul power, he lacks the condition to refine a second demon spirit. When his strength grows, he may replace his lifebound demon spirit anew, which inevitably means starting from scratch.

A demon spirit must grow from first-grade, progressing and advancing, requiring a vast amount of time and resources to acquire innate skills; it’s not worthwhile.

”Feng Lin, has your first innate skill emerged yet?” Ye Xuan asked curiously.

”Shadow Demon Spirit is of the dark attribute, a rare attribute, making skills somewhat hard to find.” Lin Feng shook his head.

Xie Bing and others were unsurprised; among their team of three demon spirit masters, only Xie Bing possessed his first demon spirit skill.

A demon spirit master refining a Shadow Demon Spirit is destined for the assassin career path in the future.

Assassins are the elves in the night, cold-blooded killers accustomed to using darkness to hide themselves, silently approaching enemies and unleashing deadly strikes in an instant!

Assassins are the profession all martial artists and demon spirit masters fear.

It’s preferable to antagonize a stronger warrior than a weaker assassin; this is the consensus among professionals.

After all, constant vigilance is impossible; being targeted by an assassin means perpetual danger.

Although assassins are recognized as one of the powerful professions, actual assassins are rare.

The main reason, aside from the scarcity of demon spirits suited for assassins, lies in the rarity of assassins’ innate skills compared to warriors.

An assassin’s basic skills: camouflage, stealth, breath control... are significantly scarce.

Camouflaging requires hunting a Chameleon Lizard, and while it’s only a first-grade demon beast, living mostly in swamp areas, it’s not only dangerous but also less common than unicorn wild boars.

As for the stealth skill, hunting the eerie Nether Serpent is necessary, a nightmare for a first-grade martial artist.

”Your Shadow Demon Spirit’s innate ability is Shadow Stealth, are you choosing [Sprinting] as the first skill? Though [Sprinting] has strong explosiveness and can support attacks, it creates too much noise, which seems a mismatch with Shadow Stealth?” Ye Xuan suggested.

Lin Feng naturally understood this.

In the initial stage of a demon spirit master, the first refined demon spirit skill must match the innate abilities of the lifebound demon spirit to fully utilize its combat strength.

Yet, Lin Feng refined Nightmare, not Shadow Demon Spirit.

Lin Feng nodded and said, ”It’s not really for the [Sprinting] skill, just to absorb soul power!”

Upon saying this, Lin Feng casually found an excuse to distance himself from the team; seeing no one watching, he waved his right hand, directly absorbing the demon spirit into his body, then carefully observing Nightmare’s reaction.
