Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 71: Chapter 65: Nightmare’s Innate Ability

Lin Feng closed his eyes, and a moment later, when he opened them, the previously pitch-black pupils now held two dark red whirlpools spinning continuously, looking incredibly sinister.

A dark red ghostly figure, like a phantom, enveloped his entire body, making Lin Feng appear as though he were wearing a set of Flame Armor from afar.

On this Flame Armor, the flames flickered slightly, creating a visual effect that was both cool and imposing.

However, this seemingly mighty Flame Armor held no power, no high temperature, not even a trace of warmth, but rather a hint of chill.

At the instant this dark red armor appeared, an evil aura burst forth from Lin Feng.

Evil, cold, fierce, it sent chills down one’s spine.

At the same time, a hint of savagery flashed in Lin Feng’s eyes, and an inexplicable killing intent surged within him, entwined with a sorrowful, world-weary emotion, giving him the illusion of wanting to annihilate all life at that moment.

”Trying to control me?”

Lin Feng quickly suppressed this emotion, his eyes returning to clarity.

He knew this was the mental power of the Nightmare causing mischief; if one’s will was not firm, it was indeed easy to be affected.

In theory, when a Demon Spirit Master refines a Demon Spirit, apart from their basic spirituality, the spirit’s consciousness and memory should disappear, but the Nightmare was different. Lin Feng could feel its consciousness being fully preserved.

It had its own independent thoughts, and although without a body, it was, in a sense, a separate life form.

This evil Demon Spirit undoubtedly wanted to devour him at all times.

”No wonder in the previous life Ye Qiu always had a gloomy, murderous look!” Lin Feng thought to himself.

In the previous life, Ye Qiu, who possessed a talent that made all geniuses feel inferior, was selected by Jiang City as the Son of the City.

He was the pride of Jiang City, and almost everyone was his fan.

But as Ye Qiu’s strength grew, his personality became increasingly solitary and indifferent, with a volatile temper, making it hard to approach him. He refused to take photos with fans, and fans were somewhat afraid of him.

Even with his family, it was said that the relationship was not good.

Besides that, he was also an opponent that all Glory Professional Players feared and loathed, as conflicts with him resulted in either death or injury.

Ye Qiu’s career in the Glory Alliance was brief; he only participated in the National University Glory League, after which he rejected all club invitations and withdrew from the Glory Alliance.

Yet, even in this short two-year career, three players died at his hands, with four seriously injured.

Apart from Jiang City, the media in other Base Cities referred to him as the ’Cold-blooded Killer.’

One could say, if not for the extraordinarily dazzling aura surrounding Ye Qiu, he would not have been well-liked by fans.

After all, who would admire an idol who ignores fans and is cold-blooded?

However, now Lin Feng understood, Ye Qiu was not naturally irritable or indifferent; he was influenced by the Nightmare, gradually losing himself.

When Ye Qiu refined the Nightmare, he was only a high school senior, with no life experience and no experience in life-and-death struggles. His lack of a strong will made it easy to be influenced by the Nightmare, but for Lin Feng, it wasn’t a major issue.

The emotional interference of the Nightmare was easily detected and suppressed by him.

Of course, Lin Feng could not guarantee that in the future, as the Nightmare grew stronger, he could still easily resist the Nightmare’s erosion.

”The state of Demon Possession is quite similar to that of the Dark Night Demon Spirit, but why is the color red?”

Lin Feng looked at himself in the mirror, somewhat puzzled.

Wasn’t the Nightmare supposed to be black?

So the Nightmare was mistaken for a Shadow Demon Spirit judging by its appearance, but what was with this dark red Phantom on him?

After pondering for a long time, Lin Feng couldn’t figure out the reason, only guessing it might be the Sealing Magic Seal and blood causing the Nightmare to mutate, which would eventually return to normal, so Lin Feng didn’t pay much attention.

Seeing the medicinal bath in the bathtub turn a pale red, adhering to the principle of not wasting, Lin Feng immersed himself entirely. When the bathwater became completely transparent, Lin Feng stood up, and though his previously damaged skin had somewhat recovered, the blood and flesh in the cracks were still faintly visible.

”No changes in physique?”

Lin Feng clenched his fist, observing the changes in his body.

Having refined the Nightmare, Lin Feng in the state of Demon Transformation, besides looking cooler, did not seem to have increased power or agility.

What puzzled Lin Feng was how the Nightmare accelerated cultivation speed.

The Exotic Beast Chart did not describe it, nor did Ye Qiu’s notes mention it.

Lin Feng frowned slightly; could it be that you have to wait to experience it with the Cultivation Technique?

The enclosed bathroom was too stuffy, a pungent metallic smell in the air, so Lin Feng opened the window and the door, returning to his room.

”Huh?”

As he stepped out of the mist-filled, confined bathroom, Lin Feng’s entire body stiffened slightly, uttering a sound of surprise.

His room was still his room, but in Lin Feng’s eyes, it had transformed dramatically.

The sofa, wardrobe, quilt, these remained unchanged, but they were clearer, more vivid.

It was as if a renderer had been added before his eyes, turning the world into a kaleidoscope of colors.

In the sunlight, the particles suspended in the air, and on the upper right corner of the room’s wall, a motionless mosquito was instantly captured by him, its slender leg hairs swaying gently with the wind.

”Madam Chen, where are you heading out today?”

”Going to buy some groceries, my little grandson is coming for dinner today.”

Lin Feng came to the window and looked down. The conversation of two middle-aged women in the corridor of the community came clearly to his ears, even though his room was on the 26th floor.

Not only his hearing and vision, but also his sense of smell, his reflexes, all of his senses were enhanced more than tenfold.

In a combat scenario, such a state would undoubtedly be the best state.

Lin Feng felt that his senses could now rival those who had refined support demon spirits, and his enhancement was all-encompassing.

Moreover, under the possession of the Nightmare, strands of visible spiritual qi were continuously swirling around him, and due to their sheer volume, they formed a green fog that enveloped him. The skin and flesh that had been ruptured were now healing bit by bit.

”Holy crap!”

Lin Feng was shocked, wanting to shout out his delight.

At this moment, he finally understood what the Nightmare’s innate ability was!

Why in his previous life, after Ye Qiu refined the Nightmare, it seemed as if he was cheating.

Spiritual qi materialization!

In his past life, Lin Feng was an Eighth Grade Martial Artist, he couldn’t even come close to achieving this, nor could a Ninth Grade Martial Artist - only Guardians beyond the Ninth Grade had such a capability.

Yet now he was merely a Body Cultivator of the Eighth Rank, a sixteen-year-old boy.

If someone saw this, it would probably astonish them beyond words.

But what astonished Lin Feng the most was that this absorption was automatic, without the need for him to operate any cultivation technique.

Lin Feng was only at Body Cultivator of the Eighth Rank. His fragile meridians couldn’t even practice cultivation techniques, much less absorb Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi. But just with the Nightmare Possession, the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi seemed to be attracted by some mysterious force, drawn into his body.

The immense spiritual power not only restored Lin Feng’s body but even began to nourish every inch of his body and cells, rapidly saturating them.

Lin Feng had not yet cultivated any techniques, and hence his body could not accommodate such a large amount of spiritual power, and his Soul Power was already exhausted. Now, he could maintain the Demon Transformation state only by relying on the Soul Power from the Soul Nourishing Pill, though clearly, this was a huge drain on his Soul Power.

Lin Feng drew the Nightmare into the Soul Sea and exited the Demon Transformation state, and the intense sensory state immediately disappeared, though still much stronger than before.

The green mist that had materialized around Lin Feng slowly dissipated. Yet, Lin Feng could still feel that the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi were trickling into his body, just in much smaller quantities, unable to form a substance visible to the naked eye.

Still, even so, absorbing continuously for twenty-four hours a day, the effect was incredibly remarkable.

”This Nightmare is entirely a cheat code.”

Lin Feng marveled, the Nightmare felt like a cheat code in a game.

Others were risking their lives fighting monsters in the wild to level up, while he could stay at home drinking beverages, watching TV, or even sleeping, and still level up. This kind of cheating effect was like Lin Feng being in a Pocket World Fortune, soaking constantly in Heaven and Earth Spirit Liquid.

Even the most exceptional genius of the Glory Race probably wouldn’t be so extravagant.

According to Lin Feng’s estimation, when he becomes a Martial Artist and starts cultivating techniques, the absorption effect would probably be even more terrifying.

And Lin Feng had a premonition that the Nightmare’s innate abilities didn’t end there...

Lin Feng’s eyes shone brilliantly, blood that had cooled began to boil once more.

Lin Feng knew, from this moment, he no longer needed to hype himself on the Martial Artists’ Forum, nor to package himself as a genius, with the Nightmare refined, he was already, beyond question, a peerless genius.

Due to his aptitude and talent, he might not be as demonic as Ye Qiu in his past life.

But Lin Feng was confident; he would go further.

At this moment, he didn’t know why, but images flashed through Lin Feng’s mind.

At five years old, that man bought lots of toys and delicious things for him and his sister, and they were overjoyed, shouting long live Papa, but after that day, the man never came home again. At that time, Lin Feng only remembered the back of that man, somewhat blurry, but he walked away quickly.

At six years old, their pampered mother endeavored to find a job but was met with constant rejection. What job would take in a woman who had never worked before and had two children? They couldn’t pay the rent and were evicted by the landlord; that winter it snowed, and their mother took him and his sister to their grandfather’s house, but she stood outside the door, hesitant to knock.

At seven, their mother found work and also found Old Ma, a very ordinary man, but it was obvious he was an honest person, very kind to them. He had a cute sister, though she was somewhat cold towards him.

At eight, he met a boy with a big head and a girl so pretty and exquisite as if she were a doll, and the three of them became best friends.

At thirteen, he and that girl became a couple, dreaming of their future life together.

At sixteen, after failing on Awakening Day, the undisguised look of disappointment in that girl’s eyes was apparent, and after the college entrance exams, the girl he thought he would spend his life with broke up with him, and he didn’t refuse.

At twenty-five, he heard from a former neighbor that the girl was getting married, to an excellent person, better than he was; that day, he got drunk.

At thirty, his elder sister gave birth to a nephew, and their mother told him she wanted to be a grandmother.

At thirty-seven, he had become an Eighth Grade Martial Artist, returning from the Otherworld. On this day, he finally met a woman who made his heart flutter, she was five years younger and had feelings for him too. Lin Feng wanted to tell his mother not to worry about his marriage; he would soon marry and would have a healthy child; he wanted not a mischievous son but a lovely and sensible daughter.

But just as he stepped out of the Otherworld, he faced endless demon beasts and corpses; the prosperous Jiang City had become a wasteland, with cries, wails, and the all-too-familiar sound of artillery fire....
