Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 54: Chapter 48: Rejecting Three Clubs

The three elders did not directly refute Lin Feng’s viewpoint.

Although the water attribute is somewhat weaker in the early stages compared to other attributes, Lin Feng’s martial arts talent can fully compensate for this.

Moreover, for a Demon Spirit Master, the level of the demon spirit is more important than martial arts strength.

A powerful demon spirit that suits oneself can even challenge higher levels, and there are many water element demon spirits with strong attack power.

”Since you are confident in refining the demon spirit on the Earth Chart, why not refine it first and then discuss the contract? This will be beneficial to you as well!” Elder Jiang suggested.

This was also the shared thought of the three elders.

They needed to first confirm Lin Feng’s soul cultivation talent before they could provide specific contract terms.

”However, demon spirits are not provided for free and will be deducted annually from your salary!” Elder Jiang added.

An Earth Chart demon spirit costs at least several billion New Coins; even the wealthy Ju Xing isn’t that generous.

”Pay for it myself?”

Lin Feng frowned, saying nothing more.

Even with an S-level contract and a high salary, it’s like Ye Qiu’s 3 billion New Coins over ten years, forcing him to be bound to Thunder Club for life.

”If I join Thunder, what level of water attribute demon spirit can Thunder offer me?” Lin Feng asked.

”In the water series of the Earth Chart, our Thunder has an Ice Mandarin Duck ranked at number 177,” Elder Jiang replied.

”Not suitable!” Lin Feng shook his head immediately upon hearing this.

The Ice Mandarin Duck’s talent is inclined towards ice series magic, and refining it grants one an extremely high affinity and control over the water series.

Its innate ability ’Ice and Snow World’ could turn a scorching desert into a snowy world in a short time, greatly enhancing the caster’s combat power in that special zone!

Although the Ice Mandarin Duck has high level and combat power, refining it would direct Lin Feng’s future career towards an ice mage, obviously hindering his combat talent.

”Indeed, but no matter, as long as you’re confident, I can apply to the club for other water series demon spirits.”

Elder Jiang nodded, acknowledging that the Ice Mandarin Duck wasn’t suitable for Lin Feng.

Even though it’s an Earth Chart demon spirit, if it can’t manifest the combat ability a martial artist should have, refining a lower-ranked Ninth Grade demon spirit would be better.

Demon spirits are not about higher grade, but rather finding the one that suits you best!

”And how about Ju Xing Club?” Lin Feng asked Zhang Ling.

”Ju Xing has two Earth Chart water series demon spirits: one is the Mercury Flood Dragon at number 189, and another is the Cloud-Stepping Beast at number 196,” Zhang Ling checked her phone for a moment and told Lin Feng.

”The Mercury Flood Dragon has dragon blood, but the bloodline is thin, and its defensive and offensive abilities while demon possessed aren’t high. Like the Ice Mandarin Duck, it is inclined towards magic, unsuited for my combat style. The Cloud-Stepping Beast is strong combat type but average in combat power. Are there any higher-ranked ones?”

Lin Feng slightly frowned, as if unimpressed.

”Too low-ranked?” Zhang Ling remarked in surprise.

Saying the Cloud-Stepping Beast at Earth Chart number 196 is low-ranked would incite backlash from anyone!

So arrogant!

This made her feel awkward, given she had only refined a Sixth Grade demon spirit.

Lin Feng looked towards Jiang Jun, who helplessly spread his hands and said, ”Wind-Grabbing just doesn’t have water series demon spirits on the Earth Chart, but we do have a Ninth Grade Ice Crystal Demon Bear, a top-notch strong combat type demon spirit!”

Lin Feng shook his head, not even bothering to reply.

Jiang Jun shrugged reluctantly, unsurprised.

If Lin Feng wasn’t interested in the Earth Chart Cloud-Stepping Beast, how could he accept a Ninth Grade Ice Crystal Demon Bear? They’re not in the same class.

Seeing Lin Feng’s dissatisfaction, Elder Jiang shot a doubtful glance at Lin Feng.

”Why don’t you directly say what demon spirit you want?” Elder Jiang asked.

Lin Feng thought for a moment and said, ”I want the Snow Kirin!”

”Impossible!”

Elder Jiang exclaimed, directly rejecting the idea without a second thought.

Demon spirits ranked within the top 100 of the Earth Chart are rare.

Besides, the Snow Kirin is ranked 56 on the Earth Chart; how could their club possibly have one?

Such a stellar demon spirit, like the Thorny Demon Dragon refined by Ye Qiu, was acquired from an Otherworld.

Refining the Snow Kirin leaves no weaknesses in either close-ranged or long-ranged combat, and its talent ability ’Crystallization’ is terrifying, capable of turning any object into crystal.

Demon spirits of this caliber are remnants from the Dawn Battle; no one has been heard of refining them for decades!

”Change to another; it’s simply impossible to find it!” Elder Jiang stated plainly.

”Then the Water Candle Demon!”

”Not available!”

Elder Jiang’s face turned sullen; although the Water Candle Demon is ranked lower than the Snow Kirin, it’s also at number 103 on the Earth Chart, not something easily found.

This kid’s deliberately picking issues!

”Then the Ice Ghost!”

”Not available!”

”Then the White Phoenix Bird!”

”Not available!”

...

After hearing ”not available” seven to eight times, Elder Jiang started appearing impatient.

All the water series demon spirits Lin Feng mentioned were ranked within the top 140 and extremely rare.

”Is this kid doing it on purpose?”

Elder Jiang’s patience was running thin, with deepening suspicion.

He had an intuition that Lin Feng might be doing this intentionally, picking rare water series demon spirits.

Could it be that he has no soul cultivation talent and is merely putting on a show?

Not only Elder Jiang, Zhang Ling and Jiang Jun felt the same way.

”Lin Feng, why not refine the Ice Crystal Demon Bear first?”

Jiang Jun looked at Elder Jiang, then advised Lin Feng, ”The Ice Crystal Demon Bear is a Ninth Grade demon spirit; though not on the Earth Chart, it’s a top-notch strong combat type demon spirit. Its talent ability ’Ice Roar’ is also a very powerful attack skill, quite suitable for you.”

”Too low-ranked!” Lin Feng insisted, shaking his head.

Jiang Jun chuckled, unbothered, and continued, ”No problem, as long as you refine the Ice Crystal Demon Bear, Wind-Grabbing Club will find you an Earth Chart demon spirit to replace it in the future!”

After speaking, Jiang Jun gazed at Lin Feng intently; with the conditions offered, Lin Feng had no reason to refuse.

”Did you notice the flaw?”

Lin Feng realized Elder Jiang and the others began suspecting his soul cultivation talent.

He could only continue to hold firm, ”That would waste my soul power in vain; even when replacing a demon spirit, it takes a year, with some side effects.”

The three elders remained silent.

Lin Feng’s reasons were too flimsy, but their suspicions were now unconcealed.

”Are you doubting me?” Lin Feng’s expression turned cold.

”Not exactly, but if you can’t refine a demon spirit, we cannot offer you a contract!” Elder Jiang said calmly.

”Haha!”

Lin Feng let out a cold laugh, ”If it were just a Ninth Grade demon spirit I would have refined it on Awakening Day, no need to wait till today!”

”Even if I refine this Ice Crystal Demon Bear, when it’s replaced, will this Ninth Grade demon spirit be considered yours or mine?” Lin Feng questioned Jiang Jun.

Jiang Jun didn’t answer; this cost would naturally fall on Lin Feng. An Ice Crystal Demon Bear is worth at least 2 billion New Coins, the club wouldn’t spend that.

”South Yeqiu, North Lin Feng; if I refine a Ninth Grade demon spirit, I’d be inferior to Ye Qiu.”

Lin Feng’s demeanor was icy cold, appearing somewhat arrogant, joking, ”Ye Qiu has the strength to reject Thunder, and I, Lin Feng, have the strength to reject you three just as well.”

Finishing, Lin Feng ignored the somewhat uncomfortable expressions of the three elders and turned to leave the room.
