Slapping sounds were continuously heard as Lu Ye awakened from his slumber. He immediately realised something was off because he was lying on his belly while someone was landing slaps on his back.

Just as he was ready to get up, a person was heard saying, “Don’t move. Your flesh has been torn following a prolonged war.”

Lu Ye turned his head and saw a young man in white clothes flashing a bright smile at him. His fluctuations of Spiritual Power showed that he was a Real Lake Realm Master, and his Spiritual Power was of Wood Attribute. As he landed slaps on Lu Ye’s back, a gentle force entered his body and mended his torn flesh.

Presently, Lu Ye felt his entire body was sore, especially his right arm. He didn’t even have the strength to lift it.

He instantly realised the young man was right. During the prolonged war, he had been using his energy to the fullest, which caused his body to be damaged.

The young man was treating his wounds.

“Are you a Medical Cultivator?” Lu Ye asked.

“You have acute eyesight. I’m indeed a Medical Cultivator,” the young man replied with a smile without stopping what he was doing.

“Thanks.” Lu Ye decided to enjoy the treatment.

He would be pleased if a female cultivator was doing that for him, but it wasn’t like he could protest since the young man was treating his wounds.

He was a taciturn person, whereas the young Medical Cultivator was talkative. While treating Lu Ye’s injury, he said, “I’ve heard from Grandma that you’re the biggest contributor to our success this time. I admire the fact that you killed countless enemies. How I wish I could do the same.” He was referring to Grandma Jiu.

Be it in Jiu Zhou or this world, Medical Cultivators usually wouldn’t take part in battles. They would focus on treating patients. Although they had some moves to protect themselves, they weren’t good at fighting.

Naturally, a certain Medical Cultivator who could use poison was an exception. Although she couldn’t fight either, she had some stealthy moves to kill her unsuspecting enemies.

“All of us focus on different areas, and Medical Cultivators have their things to do. I’m a Combat Cultivator, so it’s only natural for me to kill the enemies. We are fulfilling our respective duties, so neither of us is better than the other.”

The young man instantly developed an affinity for Lu Ye as he treated his injury while talking to him.

It took the young man an hour to complete the treatment, after which he said, “You have a sturdy body, so your injury doesn’t matter. You’ll recover after getting some rest for a few days.”

Lu Ye got up from the bed and stretched his arms, realising that the pain and discomfort he felt had been alleviated. “You’re skilful, Junior Brother.”

The young man smiled. “If you need my help in the future, just contact me. I’m stationed in the medical centre in the city. Please get some rest. I’ll take my leave.”

Lu Ye saw him off before returning to his room.

He took a glance at Dao Thirteen, who was as healthy as ever. It showed that the previous war didn’t affect him much. One good thing about Body-tempering Cultivators was that they had superb restorative power. Most of the time, their injuries would heal in a few days.

“How long did I sleep?” Lu Ye asked.

After giving it some thought, Dao Thirteen slowly stuck out a middle finger.

[Only one day?] Lu Ye was slightly surprised as he had been in deep sleep. He was exhausted from the war, and since this place was Feng Wujiang’s territory, he didn’t have to be wary of anything.

He sat down cross-legged on the bed and closed his eyes to examine himself.

His bodily injury didn’t matter as he had amazing restorative power. Moreover, he would recover more quickly after the Medical Cultivator’s treatment.

Still, he found something unusual as his Divine Pool had been expanded. This came as a surprise to him.

The problem with his Divine Pool had been bothering him for quite a while. It was accidentally born when he was a First-Order Real Lake Realm Master.

Throughout the history of Jiu Zhou, no Real Lake Realm Master had ever developed a Divine Ego and nurtured a Soul Body. Hence, there was no precedent to which Lu Ye could refer.

But he hadn’t come across any issues so far. The birth of his Divine Ego allowed him to have a stronger perception and build Divine Glyphs. He had gained massive benefits.

However, his Divine Pool was different from a real Divine Ocean. It was a reduced version.

He had naively believed that as his cultivation improved, his Divine Pool would expand and turn into a real Divine Ocean.

But after such a long time, his Divine Pool had only seen some limited growth. It would only become slightly different every time he consumed some Soul Cleansing Water.

This caused his Divine Ego to remain weak. Even the Heavenly Lord who had just ascended to the Divine Ocean Realm had a stronger Divine Ego.

This was the problem that had been bothering Lu Ye.

Anyway, since he was still a Real Lake Realm Master, he didn’t spend too much time pondering it.

Much to his surprise, his Divine Pool had suddenly been expanded for no reason. Although the expansion was small, the change was conspicuous. His Divine Ego also seemed to be stronger.

[Is it because I’m now a Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm Master?] He wasn’t sure about that.

Cultivators of the same cultivation as his were usually ready to ascend to the Divine Ocean Realm, but it was a huge hurdle for any one of them. If they could surmount it, they would become Divine Ocean Realm Masters, but if they couldn’t, they’d be stuck in the Real Lake Realm forever.

Geng Wuwang had been trapped in the Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm for years. It wasn’t that his aptitude was weak. Whether one could make it to the Divine Ocean Realm didn’t only depend on his cultivation and aptitude. Luck played a huge role as well.

Certainly, having sufficient cultivation resources was essential too. If one could get some treasures that could nourish the soul like Soul Cleansing Water, it would be easier for him to ascend to the Divine Ocean Realm.

What Lu Ye didn’t understand was why his Divine Pool had expanded noticeably this time. After some contemplation, he still couldn’t figure it out.

Anyway, he should get ready to ascend to the Divine Ocean Realm. Since he knew little about it, he’d better get some help.

On one’s cultivation journey, there were some things he had to persevere on his own, but there were some things he needed to seek help from others.

Lu Ye initially wanted to ask Feng Wujiang about it, but the latter was swamped with work following the war in Crimson Blood Holy Land. Since he couldn’t find Feng Wujiang, he had no choice but to wait.

He decided to push the matter of his Divine Pool aside and comprehend the insights he had gained from the war.

During the war, he had been using his energy to the fullest because his enemies were all stronger than he was. Many of them were in the Divine Ocean Realm. He had no idea how many times he had wielded his saber. The experiences and insights he had gained during the life-and-death moments were significantly more useful than if he practised the Saber Technique on his own.

What he had gained from the war was much greater than when he cultivated his power in seclusion.

Now, he had to brand these insights into the deepest part of his mind and recall the inspirations that had come to him during the life-and-death moments. By doing so, he would know what moves to use to solve his crisis when he came across similar situations in the future.

That was how a cultivator grew his power. The more life-threatening moments he experienced, the stronger his moves became.

Two cultivators could have similar cultivation and powers, but one might be able to defeat the other in a short time because he had experienced more of these fights and knew how to effectively defeat his opponent.

Several days passed in the blink of an eye.

One day, Lu Ye heard the sound of breaking through the air when he was comprehending the insights. He quickly released his Divine Ego and realised that Feng Wujiang had returned.

Feng Wujiang had been absent for quite a while since he was busy.

Lu Ye quickly got to his feet and went to Feng Wujiang’s place before expressing his intention.

Feng Wujiang nodded. “Since you’re a Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm Master now, you’re indeed supposed to get ready to make it to the Divine Ocean Realm. If you have any questions, just ask me right away.”

He was more than happy to teach Lu Ye how to cultivate his power.

Lu Ye said, “Senior Brother, you see, I’m a Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm Master who has nurtured a Soul Body and developed a Divine Ego, but I can feel I’m so much different from a real Divine Ocean Realm Master. What do you think is going on?”

Feng Wujiang replied, “Your situation is unheard of. Anyway, do you know why a cultivator will only develop a Divine Ego after the Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm?”

Lu Ye shook his head.

Feng Wujiang explained, “A Divine Ego is the manifestation of Soul Power. Actually, everyone has his Soul Power, though its strength varies. Before the Divine Ocean Realm, the Soul Power that one uses is usually called Mental Power. I’m sure you understand that.”

Lu Ye nodded.

“When you activate your power and use Spirit Artifacts, you’re not only using your Spiritual Power; you’re using Mental Power as well. Before the Divine Ocean Realm, using Mental Power for a long time is also a form of training for the Divine Soul. Therefore, as a cultivator’s power increases, his Mental Power and Divine Soul will grow too. This is a process you can’t see or touch. The accumulation takes a long time. When one becomes a Ninth-Order Real Lake Realm Master, there is a chance a fundamental change will happen. Mental Power will turn into Divine Ego, after which Divine Ocean will be born and Soul Body will be nurtured.”

Lu Ye listened attentively. Although he had vaguely realised those things, no one had ever told him about it in detail. After listening to Feng Wujiang, he finally understood many things.

“Before the Divine Ocean Realm, your Mental Power is good enough to control the power in your body, so a Divine Ego isn’t needed. However, there’ll be a limit when you reach the Real Lake Realm. Mental Power can’t control the power of a higher level. Therefore, at this stage, a cultivator has to turn his Mental Power into Divine Ego. Only Divine Ego can control a greater physical strength. At this point, a cultivator will subconsciously seek transformation.”

Lu Ye understood what the other man meant. When Mental Power wasn’t good enough to control the physical strength, a cultivator would subconsciously seek a breakthrough and transformation. That was how the Divine Ego and Divine Ocean were born.

“You could develop a Divine Ego when you’re in the Real Lake Realm because your Mental Power is too strong. Your Divine Ego was accidentally born when you were stimulated by some external factors. It was how your subconscious mind tried to protect you. However, you’re not a real Divine Ocean Realm Master because your body isn’t strong enough yet. As such, merely having a Divine Ego isn’t good enough.”

Lu Ye’s eyes brightened. “So, I have to increase my physical strength now.”

Feng Wujiang nodded. “Only when your physical strength is great enough will you stand a chance to ascend to the Divine Ocean Realm.”

Anyway, it was merely a chance.
