Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 639: Chapter 638: When the Snipe and the Clam Grapple

So far, everything was proceeding according to Lin Yun’s plan. He used the Sound Transmission Stone to tell the Monk that they could begin preparations for the next phase.

For the next few days, Lin Yun remained in the small courtyard. Of course, he couldn’t have left even if he wanted to, as Divine Palace Warriors were still guarding the entrance.

Qing Zhu didn’t come looking for Lin Yun during this time, because he had already given her something to handle.

Under the leadership of the ten Grand Commanders of the Demon Palace, the Demon Palace Warriors had begun advancing on a Divine Palace city, and Qing Zhu had been busy dealing with this matter for the past few days.

Ever meticulous, Qing Zhu didn’t immediately dispatch Divine Palace Warriors to suppress the Demon Palace’s sudden advance. Instead, she focused more of her attention on Lin Yun.

During this time, Lin Yun could clearly sense that the security around the courtyard had tightened. It seemed Qing Zhu believed the Demon Palace’s offensive was merely a diversion, with the ultimate goal of rescuing him.

This didn’t faze Lin Yun in the slightest. He remained in his courtyard, cultivating every day and ignoring the affairs of the outside world.

As for Lin Jianhong and Song Tianyang, their old hatreds stoked by Lin Yun and further spurred by a meeting with Xi Zijin, they had spent the last few days plotting how to take each other down.

One might say the two were fated rivals, as their thoughts were nearly identical. Making a move within Divine Celestial City was unrealistic, so both simultaneously came up with the idea of luring the other out of the city for an ambush.

Moreover, their Combat Power was comparable, making it difficult for either to kill the other in a one-on-one duel. Thus, in a stroke of unspoken agreement, both Lin Jianhong and Song Tianyang sought out the Sixth and Seventh Commanders, respectively.

They intended to use Divine Palace Warriors to help ambush their rival.

When the Sixth and Seventh Commanders first heard that their respective masters wanted to kill one another, they were aghast. Both men were ”descended from the heavens”—how could they engage in such internal strife?

As their trusted confidants, the Sixth and Seventh Commanders initially disagreed with the decision. However, faced with a combination of persuasion and direct orders, they ultimately could not refuse.

Once the arrangements were in place, Lin Jianhong was the first to make a move, seeking out Song Tianyang. Song Tianyang, who had been wracking his brain for a way to lure Lin Jianhong out of the city, couldn’t help a cold smirk when he heard his rival had come to him voluntarily.

He ordered his men to show Lin Jianhong in. Though both were now members of the Qing Zhu Association, they rarely interacted privately. It was understandable; the hatred between them was simply irreconcilable.

Lin Jianhong regarded Song Tianyang with a grim expression, his voice icy. ”Song Tianyang, Miss Qing Zhu has issued an order. The Demon Palace has made a sudden advance, and she wants the two of us to investigate. We set off first thing tomorrow morning.”

This was, of course, a lie. Qing Zhu had given no such order; Lin Jianhong was saying this purely to lure Song Tianyang out of Divine Celestial City.

Hearing this, Song Tianyang sneered inwardly. ’I was just trying to figure out how to trick him out of the city, and now Miss Qing Zhu issues an order like this?’

Secretly delighted, Song Tianyang didn’t even stop to consider if the order was genuine. In his eyes, Lin Jianhong was walking straight into his trap.

He agreed readily. Lin Jianhong didn’t linger; after setting a time to depart the next day, he turned and left.

The moment Lin Jianhong’s back was turned, a cold smile touched both of their lips.

That night, Lin Jianhong and Song Tianyang separately summoned the Sixth and Seventh Commanders. In different rooms, both men stared down at a map.

There was only one road from Divine Celestial City to the current position of the Demon Palace army. And on that road, there was only one ideal spot for an ambush.

Of course, this ”coincidence” was also arranged by Lin Yun. He had the Monk inform the Demon Palace’s Grand Commander to launch the sudden advance, and even the army’s route was part of his clever design.

Neither man knew any of this. At that moment, both of them pointed to the same spot on their respective maps—a place not too far from Divine Celestial City, yet perfectly suited for an ambush.

They each instructed their respective Commanders to leave the city early the next morning, set up an ambush at that location, and strike the moment their target arrived.

At this point, both Lin Jianhong and Song Tianyang felt their plans were flawless. Not only would they kill their rival, but they could also pin the blame on the Demon Palace.

Little did they know they were just two puppets in a larger play. Both were so focused on killing each other that they never considered this was all a trap set by Lin Yun.

Early the next morning, the Sixth and Seventh Commanders left the city. An hour later, Song Tianyang and Lin Jianhong also departed.

The Monk and Daoist, already lying in ambush along the path, watched as the Sixth and Seventh Commanders passed by one after the other. They exchanged a smile. Now it was their turn to act.

Song Tianyang and Lin Jianhong didn’t inform Qing Zhu of their departure. After all, both had guilty consciences, though neither was aware of the full truth of the situation.

Once outside Divine Celestial City, they proceeded along the predetermined route. Lin Jianhong suspected nothing, and neither did Song Tianyang.

Meanwhile, the Monk and Daoist ambushed and killed two Divine Palace Warriors along the road. After changing into their uniforms, they infiltrated the Seventh Commander’s contingent.

Everything was going smoothly. Song Tianyang and Lin Jianhong were completely unaware that they had already fallen into Lin Yun’s trap.

As they neared the designated ambush point, both men harbored their own treacherous plans. ’They’d sent the Sixth and Seventh Commanders out of Divine Celestial City an hour ahead of them; the ambush must surely be ready by now.’

However, what neither of them expected was that just a quarter of an hour earlier, the Sixth and Seventh Commanders had arrived at the ambush point, one after the other.

Upon seeing each other, both the Sixth and Seventh Commanders were visibly stunned. ’Why is he here? And with so many Divine Palace Warriors?’

Like their masters, the Sixth and Seventh Commanders were unaware of the full story. They simply believed that Lin Jianhong and Song Tianyang wanted to kill each other.

”Damn it, Seventh Commander! We’ve walked into an ambush! It must be Lin Jianhong trying to kill us!” At that moment, the Monk and Daoist, secretly embedded in the Seventh Commander’s ranks, made their move.

With a loud shout, the Monk, without waiting for the Seventh Commander’s order, charged toward the Sixth Commander’s men with the Daoist right behind him.

Once one person charged, the Divine Palace Warriors behind the Seventh Commander followed suit. Seeing the Seventh Commander’s men attack, the Sixth Commander naturally wasn’t about to stand there and take it. The scene instantly erupted into chaos.
