Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 628: Chapter 628: You Go First

Dozens of Divine Palace Warriors were on his tail. Listening to their curses, the Monk ran, retorting irritably, ”A bunch of morons! Catch Lord Buddha if you can! See if Lord Buddha doesn’t finish you off.”

He sprinted madly, but after running for several thousand meters, another squad of Divine Palace Warriors charged at him from the front. There weren’t many of them, only a dozen or so, but if they managed to delay him, he would likely be surrounded.

”Haha, you fatso! Keep running! Let’s see how far you can get!” a Divine Palace Warrior behind the Monk laughed loudly upon seeing his comrades arrive.

Ignoring their taunts, the Monk showed no intention of stopping and charged straight at the dozen or so Divine Palace Warriors ahead.

As he charged, the Monk shouted, ”Hmph! Take a Dragon Claw Hand from Lord Buddha!”

As he spoke, the Monk formed his hands into claws. He thrust them out, instantly grabbing the crotches of two Divine Palace Warriors. It was as if you could hear the sound of balls shattering. Seeing this, the Divine Palace Warriors blocking his path froze for a few seconds.

Seizing those few seconds of opportunity, the Monk made a sharp turn and quickly escaped.

”Aiyo, fuck...” The two Divine Palace Warriors whose crotches had been viciously grabbed by the Monk were bent over, their faces contorted in pain, cursing under their breath.

Having successfully escaped, the Monk didn’t dare to pause for a moment. His fat body was now unusually agile, and he quickly got away.

The entire city was in chaos. For a full two hours, Lin Yun and the others fought as they retreated through the city. Seeing that time was almost up, the scattered members of their group all started heading for the outskirts.

It was nearly time to retreat. Lin Yun and the others had already agreed to evacuate separately once the time came, without regrouping.

The Monk was the first to escape the city. The moment he was out, he didn’t stop at all, sprinting along the pre-arranged escape route.

After the Monk escaped, the Daoist got out as well. Just like the Monk, the Daoist fled for his life without a backward glance.

Then there were Little Ape and the Black-striped Tiger. They hadn’t entered the city in the first place, having held up many Divine Palace Warriors outside. When the appointed time arrived, Little Ape shrank to the size of a fist and landed on the Black-striped Tiger’s head. At the Black-striped Tiger’s speed, the Divine Palace Warriors had no hope of catching them.

Everyone had escaped. By now, Lin Yun had reached the western city wall. However, while still several hundred meters away, he saw Xi Zijin surrounded by over a hundred Divine Palace Warriors on top of the wall.

Moreover, from the looks of it, Xi Zijin was heavily injured; her entire abdomen was stained red with blood.

’This is bad...’ Lin Yun muttered to himself, quickly rushing toward Xi Zijin. Seeing her state, it was obvious she wouldn’t be able to escape.

Surrounded by numerous Divine Palace Warriors, Xi Zijin’s situation was even worse than Lin Yun had imagined. During the fight earlier, she had let her guard down for a moment and a child had stabbed her deep in the abdomen with a dagger. Immediately after, she was struck by several consecutive punches from the Divine Palace Warriors.

Because she was injured from the start, her wounds had only worsened as she fought her way through. Attacked by the Divine Palace Warriors in waves, Xi Zijin’s condition was much worse than it appeared.

’I can’t escape...’ Even Xi Zijin herself had given up hope. She knew the state of her body; in her current condition, it was impossible to carve a bloody path out of this many Divine Palace Warriors.

Besides, even if she did manage to cut a path through, she was so heavily injured that she wouldn’t be able to outrun the pursuit of the Divine Palace Warriors.

It seemed to be a hopeless situation. Just as Xi Zijin was about to give up completely, two Dragon Shadows suddenly charged over from the distance.

A heaven-shaking dragon’s roar echoed as the two 200-meter-long Dragon Shadows, like a pair of frenzied dragons, violently charged the crowd of Divine Palace Warriors surrounding Xi Zijin.

On the head of one of the Dragon Shadows, Xi Zijin saw a figure—a figure wielding a long white spear.

As Xi Zijin watched, the Dragon Shadows slammed viciously into the city wall where she stood. In an instant, more than half of the Divine Palace Warriors surrounding her were killed or wounded.

Dust and smoke billowed everywhere. A dozen breaths later, the dust slowly settled, and there, before Xi Zijin, Lin Yun appeared as if he had descended from the heavens.

”Are you alright?” Lin Yun asked with concern, pulling Xi Zijin behind him protectively.

For some reason, facing Lin Yun at this moment, Xi Zijin’s face flushed slightly as she replied in a small voice, ”I’m fine.”

Behind Lin Yun and Xi Zijin was the area outside the city. In front of him stood several hundred Divine Palace Warriors. Lin Yun looked at them with a calm expression, having already made a decision in his heart.

Looking at Xi Zijin up close, Lin Yun realized her injuries were truly severe. Even if they managed to break through the encirclement of Divine Palace Warriors, she wouldn’t have the strength to keep running. Unless... unless someone stayed behind to hold these Divine Palace Warriors back.

”You go first. I’ll hold them off,” he said calmly to Xi Zijin.

Hearing this, Xi Zijin shook her head and refused almost without thinking, ”No! You go, I’ll stay.”

Hearing her words, Lin Yun shouted angrily, ”You’ll stay? What can you possibly do in your condition? Go, now! Otherwise, neither of us will make it out.”

At Lin Yun’s shout, two tears welled up in the corners of Xi Zijin’s eyes, and a complex emotion flickered in her gaze as she looked at him.

Lin Yun, who couldn’t stand seeing a woman cry, saw this and softened his tone slightly. ”You go first. I’ll hold them off. Trust me, I will definitely regroup with you all. Wait for me.”

Xi Zijin didn’t reply, just stared blankly at Lin Yun. Faced with the current situation, Lin Yun was growing anxious. Seeing that she wasn’t leaving, he shouted again.

”Go, now! If you don’t go, neither of us will get away! Trust me, I have my ways.”

After taking a deep look at Lin Yun, Xi Zijin finally said with determination, ”I’ll wait for you.” With that, she turned and flew into the distance.

The moment Xi Zijin left, the Divine Palace Warriors charged. Facing several hundred of them, Lin Yun didn’t choose to flee. What he had to do now was buy enough time for Xi Zijin to escape to safety.

”Thunderfire Bombardment!” With a furious roar, Lin Yun instantly unleashed the technique. Purple flames, mixed with violent lightning, surged toward the Divine Palace Warriors in a flash.

As Xi Zijin fled the city, she unconsciously looked back. Tears still streaked down her face as she saw Lin Yun on the city wall, engulfed in lightning and flames. Facing several hundred Divine Palace Warriors alone, Lin Yun showed no fear, looking like a War God who could look down upon the entire world.

In fact, calling him a War God wasn’t wrong, because Lin Yun was the Son of the War God from the Divine Realm.
