Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 614: Chapter 614: The World’s Rules

Sitting in the courtyard, Lin Yun and the others drank the fine wine the Monk had brought out while discussing how to deal with the Divine Palace.

If Qing Zhu and the others hadn’t joined the Divine Palace, things would have been a bit easier. But now that they had, the situation had become somewhat tricky.

Lin Yun knew what Qing Zhu was capable of. Moreover, the combat power of Song Tianyang and the other two could not be underestimated; all three were Demon Level figures from the Eastern Domain.

”We still don’t know how large this space is, so we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Let’s wait until tomorrow, ask Zhang Qing, and carefully study the current situation,” Lin Yun said, taking a sip of wine.

Hearing this, the Monk and the others strongly agreed. The Demon Palace was already at a disadvantage. In their conflict with the Divine Palace, they had to be cautious every step of the way and could not afford to carelessly lose any more of the Demon Palace’s warriors.

Things had come to this. In short, if he couldn’t find a way to help the Demon Palace achieve victory, Lin Yun would never be able to learn the secrets hidden within this ruin.

’What a powerful expert with a sick sense of humor...’ he thought helplessly. He had no idea who had built this mysterious ruin, or why they would create such a trial.

They settled down in Demon City. The next day, Lin Yun and the others found Zhang Qing and asked him about the Divine Palace.

According to Zhang Qing, besides Demon City, the Demon Palace no longer had any other cities. The Divine Palace, on the other hand, had their main city, Divine Celestial City, as well as four other cities.

Two of those had been snatched from the Demon Palace. In other words, the Divine Palace now occupied this world’s Five Great Cities, while the Demon Palace was left with only Demon City.

Furthermore, based on Lin Yun’s questions, the group got a rough idea of the world’s size. Although they hadn’t seen it for themselves, Lin Yun guessed that this world was probably about the same size as Yanhuang Country.

In an area roughly the size of Yanhuang Country, the Demon Palace occupied only Demon City, and the territory it ruled was now confined to the city’s immediate surroundings.

The Divine Palace occupied ninety percent of this world, with only ten percent under the Demon Palace’s control.

After hearing Zhang Qing’s explanation, the Monk and the others felt that the Demon Palace was at an extreme disadvantage. If things continued to develop normally, the Demon Palace would absolutely be annihilated by the Divine Palace within ten years.

After learning all this, Lin Yun’s group found themselves with nothing to do. Feeling idle, Lin Yun went for a stroll alone through the streets of Demon City. Before he knew it, Xi Zijin had caught up with him.

”What are you doing here?” Lin Yun asked with a smile, looking at Xi Zijin.

”What’s wrong? Am I not allowed to take a stroll through Demon City?” Xi Zijin asked with a smile.

Accompanied by Xi Zijin, the two of them began to wander through Demon City. As for Little Ape, he was with the Black-striped Tiger, while the Monk and Daoist were already drunk.

Because the Demon Palace had suffered defeat after defeat over the past decade, losing two cities in a row, all of its people had retreated to Demon City. As a result, the streets of Demon City now seemed somewhat crowded.

Moreover, along the way, Lin Yun and Xi Zijin saw many makeshift tents. It seemed many people in Demon City were refugees who had fled from the other two cities.

”The Demon Palace’s situation is so dire now. How do you plan to help them defeat the Divine Palace?” Xi Zijin asked quietly as they walked.

Lin Yun had already given this question some thought. The Demon Palace was indeed at a disadvantage, but it had one advantage the Divine Palace lacked.

Because they had lost so much territory, all of the Demon Palace’s warriors were concentrated within Demon City. Whether for defense or offense, the Demon Palace’s reaction time before a battle was far superior to the Divine Palace’s.

As for the Divine Palace, which had successively conquered two of the Demon Palace’s cities, they had too much area to defend. Although they had three times as many warriors as the Demon Palace, their forces were spread very thin.

If they could seize an opportunity, gather all of the Demon Palace’s warriors, and launch a lightning-fast attack on a single point of the Divine Palace’s defense, they could easily break through.

What Lin Yun had in mind was to exploit this advantage. He would use lightning attacks to break through the Divine Palace’s defenses one by one, slowly retaking the cities and territories the Demon Palace had lost, and gradually turning the tide.

This was the only way Lin Yun could think of to help the Demon Palace achieve victory.

As they continued their stroll, Lin Yun didn’t notice at first. But the more he wandered through Demon City, he discovered that everyone in the city, men and women alike, had already reached the Celestial Spirit Realm in their cultivation.

Even the children of Demon City were at the Qi Sea Realm, and the slightly older ones had already reached the Primordial Ocean Realm.

”Have you noticed? There isn’t a single mortal in Demon City...” he said to Xi Zijin, somewhat surprised.

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, Xi Zijin began to pay attention to the Demon Palace members on the street. It was just as Lin Yun had said: regardless of gender, there wasn’t a single mortal, and all of them had already broken through to the Celestial Spirit Realm.

No mortals. What did that even mean? Didn’t that mean everyone in Demon City was a warrior?

His mind was filled with doubt, but soon, Lin Yun noticed another problem. There were no mortals in Demon City, but there also wasn’t a single person whose cultivation surpassed the Celestial Spirit Realm.

There were Martial Artists at the Opening Realm and Qi Sea Realm, and cultivators at the Primordial Ocean Realm. Those at the Celestial Spirit Realm were everywhere. And yet, there wasn’t a single person with a cultivation beyond the Celestial Spirit Realm.

Thinking about it more closely, Lin Yun suddenly recalled that the Demon Palace’s Grand Commander was also only at the limit of the Celestial Spirit Realm.

Although the Grand Commander’s combat power might be comparable to a top-tier expert at Spirit Realm Minor Achievement if he were on the Celestial Spirit Continent, he still hadn’t broken through to the Spirit Realm.

In a city of tens of thousands, probably more than half were at the Celestial Spirit Realm. So with so many people, why was it that not a single one could break through to the Spirit Realm?

Thinking of this, a sliver of doubt rose in Lin Yun’s heart. He recalled the choice of Light Gates: three in total, one for the Celestial Spirit Realm, one for the Spirit Realm, and one for the Earth Saint Realm.

Why were the three Light Gates divided by Cultivation Realm? And since entering this world, it seemed Lin Yun hadn’t seen a single Martial Artist who had surpassed the Celestial Spirit Realm.

Lost in thought, the two of them returned to the small courtyard where they were staying before they realized it.

Seeing Lin Yun and Xi Zijin return, the Monk and Daoist hurriedly called them over to sit in the courtyard pavilion. Pouring two cups of wine for them, the somewhat drunken pair said, ”Come, come, have a drink.”

Judging by the state of the Monk and Daoist, they had probably been drinking all day.

Feeling helpless, but since all four of them were present, Lin Yun decided to voice his suspicions.

”Don’t you guys think that this world seems to have its own rules?”
