Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 612: Chapter 612: Kowtow

Lin Yun and the others waited helplessly in the square, which was now surrounded by members of the Demon Palace. These people kept whispering among themselves as they stared at Lin Yun’s group.

Hearing the constant murmurs from the crowd, not only the Monk and the Daoist but even Lin Yun began to feel uncomfortable. It was just as the Monk had said; they felt like monkeys in a zoo, with everyone pointing and staring.

Finally, after about a quarter of an hour, Zhang Qing emerged. Following behind him, nine other people walked out of the great black hall in single file.

’Looking at the nine people behind Zhang Qing, these must be the ten Great Commanders of the Demon Palace,’ Lin Yun thought.

Upon seeing the ten people emerge from the hall, the Demon Palace Warriors surrounding the square fell silent and bowed to them respectfully.

The one in the lead, who came to a stop before Lin Yun’s group, was an old man. From the looks of him, he was nearing the end of his life; his hair was completely white, and his face was ancient and wrinkled.

After staring at Lin Yun for a moment, the old man’s gaze shifted. Like Zhang Qing, the moment he saw Little Ape, a look of shock appeared on his face. Lin Yun clearly saw the old man’s hands tremble uncontrollably.

He stared intently at Little Ape for what must have been a hundred breaths’ time. Then, the old man did something no one expected.

Without a word, the old man swiped a clawed hand at Little Ape. Seeing this, Little Ape leaped high off Lin Yun’s shoulder.

No one could have imagined the old man would attack without so much as a word. Zhang Qing saw this and hurriedly cried out, ”Grand Commander—”

However, the old man paid Zhang Qing no mind and continued his attack on Little Ape as he pleased. Though Lin Yun didn’t know why the old man had suddenly struck, he certainly wasn’t going to stand by while Little Ape was in danger.

The Black-striped Tiger, the Monk, and the Daoist all drew their Spirit Soldiers and surrounded the old man. Lin Yun glared at him and asked in a cold voice, ”Grand Commander, what is the meaning of this?”

Without a word of reply, the old man attacked Little Ape again. At this, Lin Yun and the others launched a group assault. Yet, facing the combined attack of all five of them, the old man seemed completely unruffled.

He weaved skillfully between their attacks, his body a blur. The group’s assault failed to land a single scratch on him.

Lin Yun was horrified. The old man’s aura was undoubtedly at the Limit of the Celestial Spirit Realm. Although that was the peak Cultivation within that realm, for him to handle all five of them so effortlessly... Lin Yun was shocked by the old man’s Combat Power.

After all, both he and Xi Zijin were considered Demon Level geniuses. And while the Monk, the Daoist, and the Black-striped Tiger might not have Demon Level Combat Power, they were still top-tier talents.

To face a siege by five such people at once... Forget someone at the Limit of the Celestial Spirit Realm; even an expert at Spirit Realm Minor Achievement would likely be unable to handle it so easily.

The old man had seemed relaxed facing the five of them, but after dodging a few more times, he clearly began to lose his patience. He would no longer simply evade their attacks.

The Monk swung his staff at the old man’s back. In response, the old man spun around with the speed of Lightning and caught the staff nonchalantly with one hand.

The Monk’s expression changed when his attack was caught so easily. He immediately tried to pull back, but the old man’s hand was like an iron clamp, gripping the staff so tightly that the Monk couldn’t budge it.

With a powerful fling, he sent the Monk—and his staff—flying. The Monk slammed hard into the Daoist, and the two of them then crashed into the Black-striped Tiger. All three of them finally tumbled to a stop in a miserable heap.

He had sent the three of them flying in a single move. In that moment, Lin Yun and Xi Zijin were clearly unable to stop him. Seizing the opening, the old man was already upon Little Ape.

Facing the old man, Little Ape didn’t hesitate. He instantly swelled to ten meters in height and let out a furious roar. Just as he was about to attack, he saw the charging old man freeze in place, his old eyes filled with a look of utter astonishment.

”It’s true... It’s really true...” The aged voice that came from the old man’s mouth trembled, and Lin Yun could hear just how incredibly excited he was.

Under the baffled gazes of Lin Yun and the others, the old man actually knelt down slowly before Little Ape. Just like him, the other Nine Great Commanders also wore looks of shock as they, one by one, knelt before Little Ape.

”What is...?” Lin Yun was utterly confused. He didn’t understand what these people were doing. First, a sudden attack on Little Ape, and now they were all kneeling to him. For a moment, he was completely lost.

”I should have realized sooner... The heaven-sent people... you truly are the heaven-sent people...” Zhang Qing muttered to himself as he knelt before Little Ape.

Seeing this, Little Ape turned to Lin Yun in confusion and asked, ”Big Brother...?”

Lin Yun didn’t know what was going on either. After a long moment, the old man finally rose to his feet and slowly walked over to Lin Yun. The shock on his face had subsided considerably, but Lin Yun could still sense his intense excitement.

”You are the heaven-sent people. With the Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape appearing in our Demon Palace, we will surely defeat the Divine Palace...” the old man said to Lin Yun.

Hearing the old man’s words, Lin Yun suddenly realized. ’So they recognized Little Ape as a Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape.’

’But that’s strange,’ he thought. ’The Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape is a peerless, ferocious beast from the Demon Realm. How could the Demon Palace know about it? Could it be that this Demon Palace truly has a connection to the Demon Realm?’

After speaking to Lin Yun, the old man turned to the surrounding Demon Palace Warriors and bellowed.

”The Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape has appeared! The Demon Palace will be victorious!”

Hearing the old man’s cry, all the Demon Palace Warriors began to chant, ”The Demon Palace will be victorious! The Demon Palace will be victorious!”

In his ten-meter-tall form, Little Ape truly looked like a Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape that scorned the very heavens and earth. However, that wasn’t Lin Yun’s main concern. What he cared about was how these people knew of the Heaven-Destroying Demon Ape.

He voiced this question to the old man, but the old man simply told Lin Yun to follow him into the great hall. As for the Monk, the Daoist, and the others, the old man instructed Zhang Qing to arrange accommodations for them and to treat them with the utmost hospitality.

Shrinking back down to the size of a fist, Little Ape leaped onto Lin Yun’s shoulder. Following the old man, Lin Yun and Little Ape entered the great black hall.

The Monk and the others didn’t follow. Zhang Qing was already leading them to their quarters.

Following behind the old man, Lin Yun noted that the great hall was not only black on the outside; once inside, the light was also extremely dim.

They walked all the way through the hall to its very back, where there was a well-hidden secret door. The old man pressed his palm against a mechanism on the door, and it slowly began to open.

The door’s trigger was not some kind of Array, but a very ancient mechanical contraption. One could imagine that this door had to be incredibly old.

Stepping through the secret door, Lin Yun discovered a passage leading underground. Following the old man, the three of them walked straight down toward a secret chamber in the earth.
